Dark Horse panel announces other speakers!
« on: August 27, 2008, 11:54:20 am »
The Dark Horse Manga Panel will be held from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in panel room 1

As you may know, Dark Horse is celebrating its 20th anniversary year of manga publishing between now and May 2009 (May 2008 made it twenty years since their first manga ever, Kazuhisa Iwata's Gojira). Come meet people in the industry and learn what's new with our local comic company Dark Horse!

Speakers include:
Carl Gustav Horn - a manga editor at Portland’s own Dark Horse Comics (celebrating its 20th anniversary of manga publishing this year!) including such works as CLAMP’s Clover, Kosuke Fujishima’s Oh My Goddess! and Eiji Otsuka and Housui Yamazaki’s The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. A former editor at Animerica and Pulp magazines, he has worked in the U.S. anime and manga industry since 1993, and was a co-author with Patrick Macias on Japan Edge, the first book on otaku culture to be reviewed in the mainstream media. He has contributed to the U.S. DVD releases of Appleseed: Ex Machina, Gunbuster, Gunbuster 2, Royal Space Force, Patlabor 2, and Jin-Roh, and has provided commentary on the field to Weekly Comic Morning, Square Jump, Newsweek Japan, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, AERA, Clarín, The Los Angeles Times, The Hollywood Reporter, NPR, and Wired.
(all guests including Carl are listed on our main page: http://www.kumoricon.org/?page_id=15 )

Michael Gombos
- the Director of Licensing at Dark Horse Comics, and in charge of licensing and acquisitions for all of Dark Horse's manga and manhwa, and also serves as the in-house translator, doing all of Dark Horse's legal translation and miscellaneous translations. Gombos is the translator of Reiko the Zombie Shop and the upcoming Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Ikari Shinji Raising Project.

Samantha Robertson
- assistant editor - "Since October 2005 I've been working as an assistant editor at Dark Horse Comics, where I've partnered up with diabolical senior editor Chris Warner and have had the pleasure of working on such projects as Diary of Indignities, Berserk, Old Boy, Concrete, Penny Arcade, and Empowered, as well as a bunch of really wicked art books featuring the work of folks like R. Black, Tara McPherson, Stainboy Reinel, Frank Kozik, and Charles Vess."
