Hey all...

Program planning is underway for Kumoricon 2005, and here is an opportunity for you to provide your input:  What kind of shows would you like to see in the video rooms?  Old faves or the newest shows out there, live action or animated.... please respond to this post or drop me an e-mail with your suggestions.

PAPILLION ROSE!

....and not just because I have a friend on the dub.....

Samurai Champloo, Azumanga Daioh, and the Mysterious Cities of Gold all come to mind.

......and of course,
PRETTY GUARDIAN SAILOR MOON!
I really want to have an allnight party where people can actually see the last half of the series instead of just the intro episodes.

gungrave, samurai champloo, gunslinger girl, hikaru no go, bleach.

ooh ooh ooh, I know it is an anime convention, but we should bust out some more LIVE ACTION stuff.  Japanese sword fighting films, martial arts, guns, Hong Kong cinema, heroic bloodshed, etc...  I am a HUGE live action fan, and I think there is an audience for it.  Just to mix stuff up a bit.
Just saw "House of Flying Daggers" and it was AWESOME., (new movie by the guy who made 'Hero')

Also I have many many many Hong Kong live action films on VCD and DVD that could be borrowed for show if needed.  They are all official Chinese releases, so no worries about boots...  PM me if anyone wants the list....(it is BIG, 150+ titles... 8O)
The trick is not minding.

There's one I think would go over great--the Pokémon special "Raikou: Legend of Thunder".

It's nearly impossible to get a legit copy, as it was only released for rental in Japan (I got mine from an import video store), so thus, hardly anyone has seen it. It's very exciting, easy to understand even if you don't speak the language (sadly, being a legit copy, it's raw), and best of all--all the fun of Pokémon and none of the Ash!

speaking of live action stuff, what about the japanese horror flicks? *kicks self for not remembering the title* but I found a really funny vampire one... but anyways, they seem to be a big hit nowadays, which may make getting some harder, but I think that people would be interested, plus most are rated pg13, at least the ones Ive seen.

This may seem kind of odd, but what about a room that shows live action anime based stuff?

Like PGSM, and stuff.

I ask, because....well, believe it or not, I actually have a few things based on anime on DVD.

I have both Guyver movies, I have G-Saviour, I have Fist Of The North Star, and I even have Dragon Ball: Let The Magic Begin (IN ENGLISH!). I also have the G.T.O. movie on DVD (I have the eps on DVDRW, so, if anyone wanted to show those, I could at least get them to ya, I also have the Special and movie on there, too), and Crying Freeman.

As for Japanese movies, the only legit copies I have are of Returner and Versus, but I would definantly be willing to loan them to the con, by the way, both of those come with a dubbed version, and a japanese subtitled version.

I definantly think a Live action room might be a good idea.

Yeah, I have an odd habit of collecting live action anime based stuff.

i'm definitely in favor of the live action room
in fact, i would love it if we started kind of doing like a rocky horror version ourselves...acting them out while they are acting them out on stage, and/or at least talking back to the screen :)

meantime yes on the sailor moon musicals...one of my favorite of the kumoricon 2003 fanfic contest submissions was (at least loosely supposedly) based on one.....though i don't know if in the canon uranus and neptune were girlfriends and there was a vampire involved???

Okay, this may seem really, really lame. But, I would like to see Sailor Moon seasons 1 to 5 in japanese... Heh.... They're never shown at any con I've attened... here is a list of Sailor Moon Musicals that Uranus and Neptune are in.... I'm not a super big expert...

Usagi Ai no Senshi e no Michi
Yume Senshi ~ Ai Eien ni
Sailor Stars
Eien Densetsu
Shin Densetsu Kourin
Kaguya Shima Densetsu
Last Dracula Overture
Transalvania no Mori
Last Dracula Saishuu Shou
Ankoku no Black Lady
Mistress Labyrinth
Legend of the Shooting Stars

Okay. That's all I know. There is one before Usagi Ai no Senshi e no Michi, but I can't remember the name. It's the first musical... So, please forgive me. And I don't know the name of the newest musical, which is supposed to be right after Legend of the Shooting Stars.

having just toured the hotel with the programming meeting, it looks like one of the blocks of rooms, in which we were thinking of holding anime viewings, could be divided into 4 small rooms. perhaps this might be enough that there could actually be blocks of time dedicated to extended viewings of specific series in high demand?

oh, oh... could I put a request that should you have another first episode theatre (which my friends and I just loved), that you make sure it's much bigger? It was always full from what I saw *sigh*.  I had to stand most of the time I was in there.
I also think the live-action room would be a good idea. Some of those films are just great! Also, rarnom would probably break down crying if you denied him that...

The R season is available commercially and has been on TV.  However, I do have great quality fansubs of the whole 'Stars' Season.  It has been stated that it will NEVER be licensed for a US release.  Since the Live Action marathons have gone so well, I'd be willing to bet that a Sailor Stars" marathon would go over well.

Sailor Moon goes like this:
Sailor Moon
Sailor Moon R
Sailor Moon S
Sailor Moon SuperS
Sailor Moon Stars

Stars wasn't going to be liscensed or dubbed because it had characters that changed gender. Try covering that up on a show aimed at little kids in America. :D

It would be much harder to dub Stars because there are so many things in it that will "disturb" little children. But, it would be very, very hard to hide Haruka and Michiru's relationship in Stars. They would have to cut out one of the most important scenes in the last couple of episodes. But, I'm not going to go into this, I would be going on forever...

I have a question about that--why *is* the English version so crappy when they have the Japanese producers approving every change and every voice? I mean, I'm not denying that it is, but *how*?

they screwed up Luffy's, Usopp's voice
And the japanese version is basically better in every way
Also the english version changed Zoro's name to Zolo
And so far i think the gave sanji a sucker instead of a cigarette.

Yeah, but with the original producers working on it, why *are* the voices so bad? Ah well, it's not like originals are always flawless either...

Actually, they had a good reason to change the name to Zolo--Zoro would have gotten them sued. I don't know why they can have it in the comic and not the show, but apparently copyrights are different.

The cigarette thing puzzles me, though. This *is* the same network that had Mr Ishida light up every five minutes on Digimon just a few years ago...Maybe because he wasn't a main character.

Well I only saw a couple of minutes of the japanese language version but from what I saw I didn't like Luffy's voice in the first place. As for Sanji's cigarette, sure it's changed from the manga, but is it really important?
And now I'm a catgirl?

I've been thinking about "What I'd Like To See", and I think there should be a room that shows Excel Saga and Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi.

Both are comical and both are parody type anime. I think Parody animes are great, because everyone can like them, so I think the "Parody Anime" room would have a good crowd.

I have honestly not met someone yet that didn't find Excel Saga hilarious. In fact, it is one of my favorites.

Any thoughts on this, or perhapes having a "Comedy Anime" viewing room?

I know its probably a bad idea to make genres for viewing rooms, but I think it'd be cool to break up them down into like four or so genres, and make a schedule for each genre room of what would be on.

Some good genres to use would Comedy and Mecha, and an Action room, of course.

I think if its devided up into Genres for each day, people can easily figure out what they want to watch.

That is, unless, someone already had this idea and it IS being incorporated, then I would feel a bit stupid, LOL.

Actually, they had a good reason to change the name to Zolo--Zoro would have gotten them sued. I don't know why they can have it in the comic and not the show, but apparently copyrights are different.

That is one reason.

Though, thats not possible. Since Zoro only has one R, not like Zorro.

Oh, and Zoro's name is more pronounced like "Z-oe R-oe", not like "Zor Ro".

Oh well, its a well known fact by now that 4Kids sucks, so, yeah.

K-F forever. :D

My guess on the name change is to maybe make it more phontic.  If it was a Zoro, you may have people saying the "ro" with the strong "R" like in "row" when it has more of a "L" sound like in "low".  And while However, the "r" in Japanese is sounds like combination of "r" and "l" which you why you see one in place of the other.  If you look in romaji, then they use the "r" to represent it which is why it can be the official spelling.

As for cig, trying to make it more of kids show is the only reason I can think.  As for the one in Digimon, I think it remained as it was translated by a different company and then maybe cause its a different type of character(correct me if I'm mistaken).  As for why Japanese producers would want this, it likely to give it more of a kids show look(bigger market I think).  I believe this was the case with Sailor Stars(I believe that mentioned in the forums somewhere recently) in that the JPN producer didn't want it to be release in US so Sailor Moon can keep its kids show image.

I would like to see more excitement.  We need more random people out there getting others excited about the con going on around them.

What we need are some dancing monkeys for the con.

Don't ask.  I'm just in a funny mood at the moment.

No dancing monkeys.  How about a dancing cat?
