Cosplay Workshop
« on: August 11, 2008, 06:58:30 pm »
Con is less than three weeks away, are your costumes finished? Is there some part of it that you are stuck on or you can't think of something to use to make the certain prop? On Thursday August 14 I am going to be holding a cosplay workshop at my house from noon till whenever people have to leave. If you don't have a costume to work on you can come hang out and take pictures, there is a nice park right behind my house that we can go.

I only have one sewing machine and it is rather old and doesn't work well all the time so if you want to sew anything I would suggest that you bring your own machine. I'll have thread and very few needles. I have four hot glue guns and a bunch of glue sticks.

Also I was thinking about ordering pizza so it would be best if everyone brought a little bit of cash.

If you are interested my address is 9022 sw Waverly dr. Tigard. It is behind Tigard High School and in front of Cook Park.

So far we have:
Nikkiolie
Sayda
Saya-chan 14

I'm in for whenever. I don't have anything I could really work on, I don't think. Maybe my wig, and my Kadaj wig.

you could help me with Albel's wig.....maybe just trim the bangs a little. I'm sure others could use help too.

So I am going to start a list of people who want to come (so I have a number to give to my mom)

Awesome! Tell her I said thanks. And that I think she should go with me to the wig shop either tomorrow, or Wednesday.

I just ordered a Cloud cosplay off of ebay. Shame shame for buying it, but why make it when I have the money to buy expensive things?! The fact that I can't sew has nothing to do with buying my Cosplay, either.

Also I have a hot tube and if you would like to go in then you will need a swimsuit (I have towels)

Sayda the costume is great but keep in mind it is really hot (that is the same one Devin had)

Saya_chan, if you read this before 6, I'm going to Wig Land today. I'm picking up Steven from his work around 4:30, and then we're heading into Portland. We're parking at Llyod Center, and then walking to Wig Land from there. So we'll be there around 5 - 5:30. After that he wanted to go to Nordstrom Rack and look around.
My guess is we'll probably have dinner somewhere in Portland, and since I know Steven well enough, it'll probably be at the Macaroni Grill. Their dinners are from 10 - 20$. But most range around 10 - 12$.
If you're interested in going, just let me know, and we can meet you either at Wig Land, or at Llyod Center!

So, I'll have something to work on this Thursday!

The dub isn't that bad, and it would be very distracting to watch it in Japaneses but if that is what everyone wants. I also have outlaw star (only the second and third dvd though v.v)

I downloaded it off the Internet back in Sophmore year and had it fansubbed. I watched it so many times in Japanese, and I even skipped school to buy it on DVD the day it came out. I started it with the English dub, and I almost cried. :-O
But that might be because I've watched it so many times in Japanese. The other thing that bugged me was the fact that their lips weren't in sync.
And is it me, or do English dubs take away from the personality of the character?

In the English dub's defense, I have actually heard people say "Shilly-shally". It's very obscure but they didn't just make it up like I originally thought.

However, the sub is still better.

In other news, I have a wig now! I wasn't even expecting one!
Any advice on how to untangle wigs? this thing has long hair and has gotten tangled. T_T

spray conditioner, it works really well. That and a wide tooth comb. That is what I used for my long wig.

I like the sub better but it is hard to read and work on a costume at the same time....

True, there's some times where I use the dub just for that reason, either the anime is way too pretty or I'm busy doing something else at the same time.

Ironically, Vallie has taken both of her wide tooth combs away. They have spray on conditioner at place like Fred Meyer right?

Well, if we've all seen the movie, then we should all know what's going on. But I could always try to bring something else that's good in English. The Miyazaki movies are all good in English in my opinion. They're one of the few Anime's that I don't mind watching without having to read to understand.
That and.. Christian Bale plays Howl. Mmmmm.. Christian Bale voice.

Yay for getting toned. ^_^

And on the movie front, I know this is a few pages back, but I think the dubbing for Advent Children was very well done. I, too, downloaded the film way before it was released in the US, and I watched the subbed version countless times, heh. I will say I like the subbed version much more, but I'm not gonna knock the dubbed. I love their voices as well, and I don't think any character or personality was lost in the process, but that is just me.

Oh, and I have a ton of Ghibli films if that is what people are in the mood for. It sounds like Sayda has a good set, and I can bring Tonari No Totoro, Pom Pocco, and The Cat Returns (if anyone is interested in those ones). Aaaand lesseee...I've got anime, but who doesn't? lol

Oh yeah, is there anything I could provide? I know some cash for food or something, I've got that, but supply-wise? I just got a new roll of craft foam I can bring and share if anyone would need that. Ummm....and I've got lots of glue sticks, an extra glue gun... most of my supplies are on the prop side of things but if they can be of use I'll gladly bring them. Heck, I'll probably be bringing them for my stuff anyway, heh.

I think I ended up with my first choice, though, which is weird considering the hassle I went through, lol. We'll see when it gets here, though  :)

And just to repost my question. Would anyone be able to give someone a ride from Tigard TC or be able to put a marker out front of your house so I or anyone else coming will know it's yours?

I don't want anyone to bring a game consol because I don't want to set it up. My dad wont be there and I have no idea how to set one up to a projector and I don't want to ruin the set up as it is now. I only suggested movies to play in the background, maybe music.

Oh cheeznits. O: That's a big ass gun, beezy. How far are you on it?

I'm about a third of the way. I'm painting everything today, and once I do that it is just a matter of putting it all together, like "some assembly may be required" style, heh. Should go pretty quickly once it is all painted.

Nichole and her complicated big screen projection white wall full of confusion. Actually if we ever wanted to play a game I could probably figure it out, I'm very talented in that department.

hehe, it's gonna be about 5'10"-6' long, and I am still trying to figure out how I'm gonna transport it. Probably on top of a car or just inside of one, the long way, lol. Still working that one out.

And we should totally start a cosplay crew, we could work on stuff since we all have the different aspects covered. ^_^

I'm sure I could figure out how to set up a game console but that is not the point of meeting at my house. And even if I could get it hooked up I'm not too sure how I will get it to show up on screen x.x

Yeah, commissions or just do group cosplays and each person can specialize in that area of expertise for the whole group's needs, you know? But whatever, I just like the thought of working on cosplay with other people, heh. And if we can get paid for it, well that'd be cool too, lol.

That would be really neat to do. We could be our own little business, only without the office. If someone wanted to do a Cosplay, but had no experience, then we could do it for them. Although, in that case we'd be getting paid, because we'd be providing materials and spending time on something that we wouldn't get to wear.

Okay, well the boards I'm bringing are only 3 feet long, and I've been able to fit them across the backseats of cars, or even put them on the floor of the backseat, so I'm sure they will fit in your car.

So, you're going to be working on the claws today? Do you have anything else that needs done for the arm pieces?

I accidentally shut my phone off in my sleep, and I went to see what time it was, and my phone wouldn't turn on, so I started freaking out. ~ ~ It was only 9, though.
And I had this awful terrible horrible dream. I left the Dark Ace (laptop) on this boat thing, and I couldn't contact them because it was one of those damn dreams where you can't hear, or see very well. I redialed the number so many times. That was a bad dream.

I got a lot done too. I was able to remake the claw in one day. I am very proud of myself. That took me several days last time x.x

Well I had nothing I could work on the whole time I was there, except for donating my wig, yayers! A cosplay noob without money a good cosplay does not make. But I did see the schedule and am wondering if the cosplay contest is worth spending the whole day on. Though I had thought of putting it on since last year. If I can keep contact with Ashley then I'll try and do it, but if it's too much work then I may just come and not compete...this time.

So guys I bought Batman begins last night, only I had to buy the 'Special Delux Limited Edition Giftset' one, because they were out of all the regular stuff. It was 3.50$ off, so I paid about 25$ for it, and holy cow. x.x
It came with a free movie ticket to the Dark Knight, a holographic mouse pad thing, a DVD sneak peek preview, mini posters, and a flashdrive with 'never before seen' pictures of the Dark Knight. :-O Pretty fancy. Oh, and the movie itself, of course.

Okidoki, and as for your crunches: Doing that many a day won't get you good results, it'll only make you feel better. Last summer I was doing 200 crunches an hour for a month, but I didn't get anything. You have to pace yourself, and let your muscles rest, that's when you see results!

And when would be a good day/week? Now that I have an idea finally on what I can work on.

if you look at the inside of any garment, the edges of the fabric are finished by what looks like a chainstitch and it keeps the fabric from fraying and pulling apart

Kahlan will also bring her sewing machine, if there is room for a second one.

My fiancee, heh. Kahlan is her forums name, her real name is Brittany. She cosplayed as Rinoa with me (as Barret) at the Pre-Con, if you were there. She cosplayed as Lulu last year and this year she is cosplaying as Rosso the Crimson with me (as Azul the Cerulean), so yeah, that's her, lol.

I would love to remake the shirt for Albel too. I want to make it a little tighter and make the stitching less obvious.

Anyone need help with the sewing? I'll be able to do that but I wouldn't be able to help with cutting fabric =0

I'm not sure if I'm going - I need a ride.

If not actual sewing, I would at least appreciate your advice on how to go about sewing some articles for my costume. ^_^ If you're gonna be there I'd like to run them by you, if you'd be alright with it.

She's a witch, durr. And I'll remember to bring it! Could I use that back table with the fake grass on it this time? It's low to the ground, and probably perfect height.

It's better then the foot thing I ended up using. I was really unorganized last time, which was probably another reason why I didn't get very far. Tomorrow I'll make better progress.

I don't want people showing up unless they have something to work on. On top of that my mom has asked that only a few people come and I already reached my limit. So maybe next time sorry :/

Tomorrow as in the 19th? And yes I should have something to work on this time. And how about we have some music instead of movies or TV to work with? Nothing says git-r-done like a list of montages and action music.

Understood. Last time I brought stuff that I didn't even know how to work on and I felt like such a noob asking for help. :-[ But that's okay, I'm actually planning on going to see Star Wars: The Clone Wars anyway. Well since she doesn't have a computer, could someone ask Ashley how things are coming with the wig I gave her and if she's still interested in doing a skit with me?
