Forgein game system advice

I was wondering if you need some sort of adapter or something in order to play a Japanese game on the following systems (in America): Gamecube, Gameboy advance, and PS1.  I heard at the Con that you need some kind of disc for the Gamecube but I didn't know if it also applied to other systems.

I know the ps systems need either a mod cd, or a mod chip. (the cd is by far more legal and safe for your system) I don't know what you would do about a gba though, I know the old gameboys would play the japanese pokemon games, and I've never heard of an adapter thingy for it either.

Hope that helps.

I plan on buying the freeloader instead since my technical skills do not go pass the ability to plug something into the wall.

freeloader is that GC mod, right? with the 2 switches? thats pretty nice... I was shocked that they got to modding them that easily.
I doubt its really that technical to do it... but get someone that knows how to sauter

PS1 needs one of those codebreakers or back panel modchips to run imported ps1 games.  But those are only for the older ps1 models that have the port in the back.
Ps2 however needs either a mod or a fliptop.  Flitop is just a bootable cd, and a covverfor your ps2, so you just open up the top... I believe it doesnt play ps1 backup games however, so modding would probably be your best bet... which requires some major sautering.  And that still wont help with some anti-mod ps1 games.  (an import of Ore no Ryouri will not run on a modded ps2... *sniff* *sniff*, but will run on a codebreaker'ed (or whatever'ed) ps1.

GBA... hell, just get a flash cart.  Itll play anything... I dont think its region encoded, either...

My PS (teh old one, regular type) has a Gold Finger and it allows for play with foreign games.  If you have spring to hold down that little button in the back of the lid compartment.  You load it up with an American game, open the lid when the disc stops spinning, put in your foreign game, and there you go!!!

I've heard that there are region codes in the new Gameboy DS, but other than that, the all the Gameboys are region free.  I have a Pink Japanese Gameboy Advance SP and it plays everything.

Nah, the DS is region free. I have one, and it played the Japanese Puyo Puyo just fine.

I still say its best to just buy the import system.  I did and I have never regretted it.
What is your favorite?
