heh, that depends on how much work you have to do. I'd say, no, that is pretty reasonable if it is just sewing work, but if you have a lot of materials you still have to gather, it may be shaving it kinda close, heh. Either way, good luck!

Depending on what you have to do, you'd be fine to get it done in a few days. Clear some time for yourself like 6 hours and don't procrastinate!

Depends so much on complexity and on how you work.  Some people do better in solid chunks of time, some do better when they space it out.  I'm more to the latter in that I'll work for a half hour, get distracted, go do something else, come back a half hour later, etc., but when it comes to the last few days before a con, I can power through stuff in solid multi-hour blocks.

It also depends on how much time you're likely to have.  Pulling down a full time job, or school, or both (or multiple jobs) will, of course, put a severe dent in this.  As my sister reminds me quite frequently: sleep > cosplay, health > cosplay, rent (and therefore work) > cosplay.  Unfortunately. :3

What cosplays are you working on?

Completely and utterly.
I have everything done, pretty much. I have to make a vest and finish a skirt.
And am waiting on a wig so I can style it.

Its ok. I am redoing the claw for Albel and I just ordered the plastic and I have to wait for it to get here. I am hoping though that the claw will be done by Sunday. It shouldn't take too long if I work my butt off. I am hoping to get the plastic either Wednesday or Thursday, but I wont be able to start working till Thursday and I don't have to go into work that day so it shouldn't be too bad.

What costumes are you doing?

I'm actually adding a new cosplay to my list just today...
I'm making it from scratch too..
I'm probably equally as crazy or just have to much time on my hands...
I'm probably working on some commissions too...but I haven't recieved anything for them so I'm slightly not worried.

i actually think it will be ok.

im making costumes for me my sister and my fiance.  they aren't too complex but there are weird parts for each one (a mask a sword and a weird hat...thing...baskets are going to be involved).
im kinda worried since i do have work, and my sister (pretty much my only helper) is going out of town for the next 5 days.

the icing on the cake is my sewing machine is in the shop till next week sometime, so all i can do right now is cut out the pattern and do the propwork.

but really im just bitching.

I don't generally do anything on new cosplays for a convention (or any event really) until 3 weeks prior to the event. At the very earliest. Except maybe cutting out patterns and pre-washing fabric. I can't get motivated without the panic factor coming into play, and that doesn't usually kick in until two weeks to go.

This year, it's slightly better, because I (a) only have one cosplay to make from start to finish (a somewhat complicated one, but nothing I can't manage) and (b) I'm doing steady costume work because of my schedule:

This past weekend - Sewing work day with my friends
This coming weekend - Cosplay event
August 23rd - AE; basics of costume must be completed for a photoshoot
August 30th - Kumori Con; any details not completed by the previous weekend can be finished in the time between cons

Okay, so I'm actually working on three other costumes (two for friends) at the same time, but they have to be done by this Sunday. Not for Kumori Con, though I'll probably wear mine if I'm satisfied with it. Does that make sense? Aw, they're seifuku, way easier than Ashitaka and all his little bits and pieces.
It helps that I'm currently between jobs, so my time's pretty open. ^^' The one part-time gig I have only takes up one day on the weekend every other week.

The way I like to look at it is, as long as you're not working at the con itself, you're doing fine. I've had problems in the past, which is why I've told my friends "If it's not done, it's not coming." Also, sewing machine does not go in luggage this time. Hem tape and safety pins will cover all faults.

Not at all, you're just very ambitious!  My friends won't be starting theirs until the 15th, and I'm just glad I'm not in their shoes.  ^^;

i know exactly what you mean.  honestly i might not have started till about now anyway.  but it guess because i was thinking that i WASNT going to be making anything i feel jarred or something.

BUT, i just finished a mask (except some kinda way to affix it to her head...elastic...) and the paint-design work for the sleeves on one.

If it's a light mask and you don't want to use elastic, you might be able to use spirit gum. It's a special glue for the skin (in case you didn't know). I'm using that to help stick the detail parts of my mask to my face.

I feel for you, though. Definitely. I've only got about %10 of my costume done ^^;

its pretty light,  i used paper clay and a base mask.  buuuuuuuuut its  a full face mask, and as i recall  the general policy has been no full masks while walking the halls (its ok for a bit for a photo).  so unless thats changed, which is entirely possible i havent checked specifically.

also i she needs to be able to change between with the mask and without the mask

Hmmm. I will have to look into this rule, then. Hopefully I won't be a problem. Putting on and taking off my mask would definitely be a pain in the rump. I have my Con badge under "Davy Jones", so maybe that will help.

Those are some great designs. I'll keep an eye out for them.

its been a rule pretty consistantly in the past, and i think its MAINLY because the hotels want their security to be able to see peoples faces.  since then i think some people have been blacklisted by the con, and it might be a con rule as well now. not sure.

I'll go check on the mask thing. The masks issues in the past have been surprises and so we started making it a blanket policy to avoid problems. Kind of like the No Stage Steel rules.

I believe you might have to take masks off for registration and put them back on.

Tom, you're awesome. Thanks so much. I'll pocket the spirit gum if that's the case. I can always apply it in the hotel bathroom or something.

Here's the word!

Quote
(22:20:20) Tom: Got yojimbo answers?
(22:20:29) Tom: Masks. What's the policy?
(22:48:18) kylite: masks allowed, except in main areas (lobby)
(22:51:35) Tom: Main Areas include the hallways aroun Main and the upstairs rooms?
(22:51:49) Tom: Or just the area by the front desk?
(22:52:00) kylite: no just lobby by front desk/elevators/emc entrance
(22:52:45) Tom: Sweet deal. Thanks
(22:53:32) kylite: no prob

So this means that you can have a mask on while you're hanging out around the main events rooms, the viewing rooms, the Exhibitor's Hall, and the programming rooms upstairs. You can also wear a mask when you're back in the Executive Meeting Center (the top right rooms of the 1st floor map), just not in the area outside the EMC going over to the pool and front lobby. The same goes for the Gaming room and halls around it.

So really, if you have to go between the EMC, Gaming, and the rest of the conspace, take off your mask.
If you have some sort of glue on apparatus then I think a yojimbo escort might work out.
Glue on masks will have to be discussed by the Executives before there is any official decision.

Not entirely in my favor, but, hey, it's better than not wearing a mask at all.

Thanks a bunch for clearing that up for me.
