go anyone?
« on: July 28, 2008, 12:44:12 am »
so my friend was talking to me about hikaru no go and then we got into a conversation about guitar hero(what a jump). I was thinking...did or does kumori have a go area, section, competition etc? if they don't do you think that would be cool if they had one? maybe try it out one year see if people like it. got any opinions or answers to my questions? please tell. ^_^

Sakuracon had a full time Go room.  I'm sure you can find it in the Tabletop gaming.  You best bet would be to bring your own board and chips if you have them.

There will be GO!

I taught Go last year to dozens of people. I don't know yet what the setup is this year but I do know it will happen. See you there!

The Go panels were popular last year.  I hope Go events will just grow and continue to grow at Kcon.

Now, what are the chances I might be able to get the time to score a game?  Sadly, last year I was too busy.

Does anyone know how to play Shogi or Riichi Mahjong? Those are my fortes, but everyone always seems to be focused on Go.

yes, I play Mahjong and a bit of the Riichi variant (I'll be getting a subscription to the RON2 server soon, which I'm sure will fuel my interest in this variant even more since that is the main ruleset there, but for now I've been sticking with Hong Kong), if I come down I'll be sure to look out for the Mahjong section.

and oh, I also play Go :). I would assume that the Portland Go Club or the Salem/Eugene Go Clubs would be the ones responsible for panel operation and teaching beginners, any ideas on that?  If not, I would be more than happy to teach if I find the time, I range from 3-5 dan on servers such as KGS, IGS, Tygem, and ORO, and officially 5-dan in the AGA.

We'll be playing mostly on 13x13 boards. That can be a very quick game; speed of play is up to the players. Ten minutes, twenty minutes?

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, 2:00 PM in the tabletop gaming room!

Expand out to game tables in the hall for continued play!

You could offer Mahjong in the open tabletop gaming area in the hallway. Plan is for about ten tables seating four people at each table, plus a few smaller tables for pairs.

(I've PM'd you about Go.)
