Portland J-Rock Fans meetup?
« on: February 29, 2008, 07:12:13 pm »
How many of us are there? Clackamas Mall has remodeled (it's even bigger than Loyd Center and they have this awesome store there now called Unique Imports which sells J-Rock cd's for $12) I'm eventually hoping to move into an apartment across from the mall and was thinking it'd be neat to start a little monthly J-Rock fan meet up thingie in the foodcourt by the Panda Express. Maybe we should put something up on "Meetup.com" or "Yahoo Groups?"

Whaaaaat?! That store has jrock CDs?! Luckily I am going there tomorrow to get my hair cut, so I'm gonna check that out!

And monthly jrock meetings sound awesome~ I live like 5-10 minutes away from the mall so I have no objections to that :D

From what I could see they had Dir en grey, Gackt, Moi dix Mois, Malice Mizer, Hyde, L'arc en Ciel, Miyavi, and some other stuff I didn't recognize. Also a couple anime soundtracks too. I would classify Orange Range as J-Rap, lol...

lol, certainly not. I wouldn't ask you to give away your super secret spy cover, but if you feel so inclined to take a picture, it'd be much appreciated, lol. I never make it out to Clackamas, but if I were to know there is a good source of music there, then that'd be worth the trip.

REPORT

Very small selection...it's behind the counter so I couldn't snap a picture cos the lady was watching me. I asked her if I can go around and look at the CDs but she insisted that I can point out what I wanted and she'd hand it to me tsk tsk so finicky D:< But yeah it's mostly Dir en Grey, Miyavi, Gackt, BoA, Utada, etc etc. Some anime/video game soundtracks as well (the only two I remember were FF and Samurai Champloo, I think)

The first time I went in there I annoyed the guy because I kept asking to see each cd. (Oooh, lemme see that one! Okay... now that one!) I dunno why they have them all behind the register anyway, unless maybe they're paranoid about people stealing them or something.

Hmmm, meager selection it sounds like, but I still want to go check it out sometime. Seems like a better option than most record stores around here.

Plus imported CDs are expensive

yup to that, i tend to treat my stuff as a  collection given the cost of some of the things, tho i got a couple of the albums at a store in japan called book off and got a couple of 38$ albums for 15-20$
note I listen to burns of the music, call me crazey but i dont want to get the expencive cds scratched up,
if you decide  to get some albums from kinokunya (say you have a job and plan on getting some things)  there is a way to get the best value for your $$ they have a club card and you get a punch for every 10$ you spend after so much you get a 20% your next album, after that a free album and after that I think its another free album and a card good for 20% off you next 10 cd's you buy, the mebership card is only good for a year so it pays to wait save up and pick a year, and if you have friends buyin just one cd, see if they dont mind if you get their punch, its only good on music and some music related dvds

I just went to the Clackamas Town Center website and tried to look up where in the mall is this place. but I did'nt see any location of the store. Is the name of the store really "Unique Imports" or is it something else?

Okay, but that does'nt really answer my question of if this asian import store exists in Clackamas Town Center or if it's somewhere else.

Yeah, it's just next Barnes and Noble.... I think. xD

On the map it's marked as 'Gifts from Afar' O-o; That's kinda odd.
