Actually, when men think sexually, their testosterone levels increase to make them more manly, so that their sexual thoughts don't go wasted.  This causes them to wind up getting distracted and think about things like sports and fashion when they're engaging in a sexual act, while women tend to focus more fully on sexual acts.  Unlike crap like "men think about sex every 5 seconds", this is a scientific fact supported by knowledge of the effects of hormones.

Actually, women think about sex more then men do.
If anything, women are more perverted then men are, men just aren't afraid to say what they think, while women keep it to themselves.
And the thoughts that they keep to themselves are much more intense then the thoughts of men.
So in reality, women are the pigs, they just keep their thoughts to themselves.

Are you inside the mind of a woman? No. I think its pretty much equal and it depends on the person. Most people say perverted things as a joke because they think its funny, take me and my circle of friends for instance.  Both sides think the other is incompetent and a pig so therefor both sides are equal.

I joke about them being untidy and what not, and I know there are a lot out there that are pervs but I do know that not everyone is like that and I don't use those jokes around people who let me know they take offense from them. So sorry if it upsets you.

It's alright, I'm pretty androgynous, so. ~ ~
I wasn't meaning to sound like I was sure all women were like that.
Women in general tend to think more about sex then men, but not in the normal form of just plain, sex.
They tend to think about sexual things in different ways, more often then men do, as men usually think of just sex in general.

It doesn't really upset me. I just want to ensure universal happiness for all! The thing I dislike about generalzations between the genders is that for every man that's perceived to be a lazy slob, I could think of several women that would also fit such an archetype.

All is well though :) Onto the topic's intent! Love! I love everyone! (In a completely non-sexual, and 100% platonic way, but still!)

As a crusty old geezer (26), until you're at least 24 your relationships should be about having someone close that shares similar interests or at least does fun activities with you. Go see the world, make soda bombs, whatever. With the exceptional handful of cases, going for something that will last forever is too much. Your interests will change, what you value will change, financial situations will influence how you live, etc.

So yeah, getting hurt sucks. But don't let that discourage you and don't go into a new relationship expecting 50 years of marriage and 2.35 kids. Just go have fun as long as you can Thats where you'll grow the most. And hey, if it doesn't end, BONUS!

It's really sad. My sister is only 22 and already she has had SOO many boyfriends. Every time, and I mean every time there is some new guy shes mad at.

A lot of people do that just for fun and they don't want anything serious.  Not my sister she dearly wants a serious- long-term relationship. The worst part of all is that despite being through the same crap wither EVERY guy ( and I hate to say it but have been nearly a hundred) she still says " I met this incredible! Guy he's totally different than all the others!" Then  she gets soo  disappointed. The men aren't going to change until she does.

It's really very sad. Honestly though I can't feel sorry for her because she has such an overbearing ego.

The fact that she states that just means that she's setting herself up for failure from the beginning. What was it, the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results? :D

Come to think of it, there are also people who are in love with being in love. Once the WAFF goes away, they move on to the next one.

I was going to stay out of this thread as its largely full of younglings trying to console other younglings about the ways of the heart. Something a crazy teacher of mine used to call the blind leading the blind. However I give kudos to you XFD. QFT. Often times people are just in love with the butterfly feeling. NEWS FLASH, that nervous energy goes away. After that, its about whether you actually love each other, not "being in love".

Earlier a married man spoke up in this thread about relationships being lots of work. I give him kudos too. He's been through it, he knows. Dont expect to find that prince charming, be forever high on love and expect the relationship to be on easy street. It doesnt work that way kiddies.

On the idea of prince charming, I have a particularly harsh view and I can't really fault girls on it.

Prince charming doesn't exist. The character type was forged from old gender roles and beliefs where the woman was basically a maid and a source of offspring. Disney did a fantastic job of selling the idea. Many guys try to fit the hero template because it gives us a feeling and sense of worth to you ladies. The lady folk are sold the idea that there is a guy out there who looks perfect, doesn't mind any particular faults of the woman, etc etc. A pretty face and a reliable person.

Consider this against all of your ended relationships; it's these typecasts are total bull to the real thing aren't they?

In the same vein with the post above mentioning the married fellow, this is why it's work. Both parties in a relationship have to maintain each other, support each other and value the good qualities their mate has over their faults. Effort has to be made to work on lessening the impact of eachother's faults too. Someone mentioned that they broke up with someone because the person was too clingy. Did they have good traits? Probably. Were they outweighed by their faults? Depends on the person you're asking. This is why it's good to at least try for a few relationships. You'll learn about what things bother you, what things you can tolerate and learn a lot about yourself.

So the point of this is to restate that fairytale characters do not exist, so one should never try to compare the person they're with against something that is fictitious. It's a part of growing up :)

/the truth

I have a tactic of getting pre-emptively dumped.  What I do is, after getting friendly with a girl, I let all masks down and let her judge the real thing.  Most of the time (17/19, working on my 20th), the girl simply loses interest, but those two relationships that did go down were FANTASTIC (but did eventually end, sadly).  This allows me to get the feeling of rejection without wasting time and thought on failed relationships.  I get all the benefits of being flirtatious and young without the deficits!

true at this age it is about learning but I think I've learned all that I can handle just by observing other people. I also don't ask guys out they have to ask me, I'm too shy to do the asking. I did sometimes but not anymore because I'm not wasting my time looking for a date or something.

So if I could offer one trinket of advice on this, don't take on the mindset of "asking a guy out." Instead just be aware of any guy you find interesting in a group of friends or social event. Talk with the person you're interested in in a general manner. Don't ask them out. Just talk. Casual conversation doesn't have an opportunity to be rejected. You will find out that it'll work out naturally if there is a mutual attraction and it will come without all of the heavy drama of "do they like me!?" Without the situation being so loaded, something might start as a simple invitation with some friends for some activity and would evolve to actual dating. In this manner, you're getting past the masks most people put on.

If there is one thing we're great at (as humans) it's making things way harder than they need to be. :)

Aint that the truth.

I really hate how people are always adding little nuances o 'rules'.

I believe that the person your truly meant to, and will be with will the person you don't have to ask nor will ask you.

yeah but really your actions (may) contribute to your acquisition of a relationship. Say if your shy then your most likely candidates are someone whos aggressive and takes the initiative or a blind date thats someone as shy... I guess thats where we get these 'rules', peoples own experiences reflected in advice

-getting back to the perfect man idea-
I don't know, I always pictured that a relationship with prince charming would seem rather dull after a while. Also, if he's perfect at everything he's also quite intimidating. Since I'm so full of flaws I figure that I'd prefer someone on an equal playing field, haha. xD
The thing that I always fall hardest for though is a great sense of humor. Sure looks are great too (and let's face it, we all have preferences, right?) but a man that can make me laugh always has a special place in my heart.

The thing that I always fall hardest for though is a great sense of humor. Sure looks are great too (and let's face it, we all have preferences, right?) but a man that can make me laugh always has a special place in my heart.

maybe the perfect man would make you feel like you have no flaws aawwwwww /swoon

I am 16 and completely and irreversibly celibate for life. \(=^0^=)/

I don't count either of the two past, since both ended in exactly seven days.
So when did you decide to become a nun?

Probably when Ragnarok started passing out bitchin' stat boosters to Nuns.
