Retro gamin', baby!

One of my fave aspects of SC is the Retro Gaming room. I would love to see that at KC, if there is one- it's a lot of fun! :D

I'm pretty sure the Retro scene at Kumoricon '07 was a billion times better than the classic gaming room at Sakuracon that had nothing but 3rd and 4th gen consoles.

If GK comes and brings a bunch of Cabinets again, it will be just as good, and I'm throwing my NES and games in the mix too.  I'll also bring in all my Amiga 500 stuff (I have everything except a system itself, including about 1000 games) if someone can bring in a working system.

Dude, I will totally bring my NES too. I have Duck Hunt and Mario Bros. I don't have a Zapper though.....but there is a thrift store here that had like 5 of 'em......Long story short, I'll have a zapper......or two.....oh I also have World Class Track Meet. It's on the same cartridge as Mario and Duck Hunt. I don't have a track pad though, and I don't really care enough about the game to get one but if someone else does and wants to bring it then have at it.

Both of those are my games... *shakes fist*
Don't forget about Mickey Mousecapades and Back to the Future!

And every year we work out a deal with Ground Kontrol, and with their help we always have a rocking retro section.  We don't have as much space, but we definitely have a much better selection.

Just a heads up, RPG's probably aren't the best to bring for general use.  The general idea behind games should be pick-up-and-play.  Anything that's been adapted from an arcade game is good, as well as anything that has a competitive or cooperative kind of battle mode.  Any racing games are great, all music games are excellent, and lots of sports games can work, although some of the newer EA sports games would probably be a bit weird.

I've got a Sega Genesis and some pretty good retro games, I may not fear lending to the con. NBA Jam, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Road Rash, Primal Rage, Streets of Fury..... sound appealing to anyone?

Too bad I have had the NES and all the game since I moved out in 05. Sucker ^_^

Oh and:

I disagree with that. Even for a short period RPGs are fun. Most the games in the collection last year had a story line to follow, which is what makes it hard to walk away from the game. If you have it bring it. Chances are *someone* will want to play. Hell, *I* will play Secret of Mana on my time off......Hoorah for 10min breaks. If we have enough staff for those >.>

I don't think RPG's are a god idea. I can see one person playing Chrono Trigger for way too long and hogging that station. If we must bring them I say there be a time limit as to how long they can be played, as it might not be fair to everyone else. And I will hug whoever brings Mario Paint....

Well, I don't see a problem people playing RPG's at times like when there's a large tournament going on with another system (more systems will be available for free play), or after 10ish when most people have left, but if there are people looking to play games, the RPGamers should be the first to relinquish their stations.

I don't see that as holistically fair. Considering on other games even single player fighters people spend long periods. It's just a general con courtesy not always followed that you only stay for a period of time. And I do believe we had an SNES last year that was barely touched, if at all.

With the response so far here, we will have plenty of systems for teh retro gaming if needed, but not necessarily the space/tvs to accomodate all of them.

I'll bring my retro TV lol.

"Retro" TVs can natively display the 240p resolution that consoles up to the PS1 and N64 output.

New HDTVs and projectors, even though they ought to be able to, typically cannot, and treat the input as 480i and attempt to deinterlace it.

(Notice how the scanlines don't appear to scroll up and down when playing an old game console, like they do for normal TV video? It's because of the 240p video mode they use, so the scanlines are absolutely still.)

To be honest, I'll probably be bringing 3 or 4 old TV's from Goodwill in case we have trouble finding extras for the DDR Tournaments (I want to be able to get them done fast, which means having 4 or 5 matches going on at a time.), so that's nice to know.
