Karaoke Winners
« on: September 15, 2004, 10:55:52 pm »
Until our documentation is organized and up on the website with the help of our awesome new webmaster, here is a belated web list of the winners of the karaoke contest.

Best in Show: Charlotte Pecheya
Best Solo: Derick Flory
Best Junior Performance: Amanda Hall
Best Presentation: Kayla "Yuna"
Best Filk: Jill Johannsen and Renee Middleton

If one of the last names is missing or incorrect - or first name, for that matter - please post or PM me the correction.

(Yeesh, Derek Flory also won the AMV contest from what I heard... and last year, in addition to nabbing 1st in the 2003 karaoke contest, he kicked my butt in the finals of the Soul Calibur 2 tourney to take 1st place. Does he get a triple crown, now?)

So Derick,
When are we going to see you in a Cosplay Skit as well?   Anyone that can sing/perform and make such creative music videos has got to have a great skit waiting to come out!

Shoot, how many times are we going to get your name wrong? Anyway, yeah, I'll fix it right away. At least I can hope that they got it right on the certificate, since you were assumed to be right there to correct any glaring errors, like calling you "Chewbacca" or something.

Anything else you wanna add to that list? ;)

Anyway, good job as usual. I don't know if you competed in the SC2 contest as well (I missed it :(), but I look forward to playing you next year. (I'll get you next time, Gadget!!)

Just wanted to say I enjoyed the contest very much.  I did my best and was glad with my performance.  I hope everyone liked it too.  It was one of the best contests I've participated in for a couple of years.  I hope to come back compete again next year.  Thanks for the great show.

Thanks, Carlos... I'm glad you had a good time. It's good to hear positive feedback from a performer; not many of the entrants have commented so far.

I hope our stage wasn't too rickety for you. ;)

karaoke stage setup
« Reply #6 on: September 20, 2004, 11:30:09 am »
Actually the stage setup was the best I've seen at a karaoke contest.  Better than Sakura Con, AX etc. when it comes to contests that is.  For open mic it's not that important.  Also thanks for letting me "test" the stage too, which was pretty sturdy.  I ended up discovering it was hard to jump anyway because of the guitar and the heavy shoes I was wearing! Next year (if I attend, but I probably will) my setup will be more simple.

Hehe, are you planning on jumping every year? ;)

As for the stage, I have Mike to thank there. :) In fact, when I get the chance I want to see him again to thank him in person if possible. He didn't do just karaoke, though, so he and the other technicians were an asset of the convention as a whole.

I hope to continue to advocate a high sound system budget, as no fewer than three major events at every con rely heavily on it (karaoke, cosplay, and AMV).

Well, my name was spelled wrong on 2 of the 4 certificates I got.
I won the SC2 tournament this year also (with Astaroth). Again

I was going to try to make a costume for cosplay, but I didn't know who to go as.  Hopefully next year I can go as somebody and meet some people in Eugene/Springfield to do a skit with.

Maybe meet up with some people during this year to do cool stuff with. Yeah

Gah. We need to engrave you a woodblock with your name on it for staff to use...

You live in the area? Hey, I'd be more than happy to get together for a skit if you'd like to. :) I've wanted to do a cosplay skit for quite awhile now, but have been unable to get anybody close enough to rehearse with. -_-; Although, that's mostly with regards to Sakura Con. I have yet to prepare anything performance-like for Kumori Con.

Failing that, we should meet up and play Soul Calibur sometime... (Or perhaps Karaoke Revolution... :P)

I'm always up for a Karaoke Revolution Party!

Or a Star Wars DVD party.  I can also reprint certificates with the correct spelling for people just let me know.

And write neater next time, DARN IT!    We're blind!  Assume the worst in terms of us figuring out handwriting.

I guess I wanted to vent my frustrations over previous contests with that "energetic" performance.  Hopefully there'll be more singing and less jumping next time (or no jumping!).

Yeah keep everything as it is--it was great.

I've been watching One Piece, and I thought I should go as Monkey D. Luffy this next year.  And I'd love to get together and do Soul Calibur and Karaoke Revolution!  Star Wars is OK too!

Sailor Naboo:

Star Wars is always fun. You're talking about the second re-release of the special edition trilogy, right? :P Karaoke Revolution, of course, is also great.

As for my handwriting, Val had rewritten the list, so you shouldn't have gotten mine, but if you did, well... what you got was my audition notes, so there wasn't any way I could have written it neater. However, I wasn't intending to use my audition list as the performance list. Thing is, I never got a chance to retype it and print it after the paper shortage began.

cpardo:

Ahh, frustrations? Mind if I ask from where? Sakura Con? Last year's Kumori Con?

Waffles:

If you did it during the dance, I can pretty much guarantee I was there. What did you sing?

Derick:

Cool! Will do! I could use some practice with either of those games (different as they are).

I'll save the rest for email. :)

Yes,
There are some changes, but it's stull DVD.  The color is so nice and sharp.

It was funny, I ran into MDStudios3 at LCC in Eugene on Monday.  I had never met him before, be he saw me sitting on the ground in the hall of the music building playing Pokemon Flame Red on a Pink Gameboy Advance SP.  He imediatly jumped to the conclusion that anyone with a Pink Japanese Gameboy HAD to be the owner of the Pink Japanese PS2....

HAHA!!

See, Naboo, your pink GBA is still getting you recognized. ^_^ And you thought it wouldn't get you any attention after they announced the U.S. release of the color.

I don't suppose he really had any other criteria to go on? I mean, it's quite possible he at least saw you at the con. Derick?

I don't remember if he or the girl he was with asked me about the gameboy and where I got it, but once I said Japan, he knew it was me.  I get the feeling that he did see me at the con and put the two together, but it was still funny.

I tried to talk him into joining us and volunteering or joining staff, but his response to that was, "What and not compete?" or something like that.  :)

Sailor Naboo, I remembered you from the con.  Just seeing the pink Gameboy SP was what cemented my assurance.  I played the other game you brought, the one with the bass speaker/vibrator thing that you play in the Virtual Reality type-ish world.  It was really fun!  I got past the second world or whatever it was.  Oh, and my friend asked where you got the SP.

Also, Naboo, you mentioned a Halloween party at some point.  Where and when would that be? May I ask?  And I might be able to volunteer at somepoint in the future.  Depends on where the future takes me :)
