I just thought I'd post something about the cosplay masquarade, skits, judging, etc.  What did everybody think?

I was very entertained by the skits, but man were there alot of Naruto ones.  Being someone who's never read or seen any Naruto, they left me a bit confussed...although now I really want to see/read it.  Never the less, even the ones that didn't entirely make sense were cool.  The walk-ons were also cool.

There were some really impressive costumes, especually considering we're a relatively small con.  I was blown away by some of them.

I think the judging was pretty fair.  I agreed with all their decisions, although it would have been nice if it hadn't taken so long...for them as well as everyone waiting.  But I like it that they took time to give people solid comments, not just glance at them and ask for the next person.

This is absolute MUSIC to a Cosplay Director's ears!  I worked very hard to put together two teams of judges that I trusted to make the best decisions.

One of the things that held back the Construction judging is that we were scheduled to start our rehersal at 4pm.  At that time, as people walked across the stage just to get a 'feel' for it and make sure the right CD would play, once they got off stage, the Costume judges were going to begin judging.  They were going to mark any costumes they wanted to take an extra look at after the show, but the majority of the judging was scheduled to happen in advance.  We ended up not having access to the stage until after 5pm.  If we had known how long the delay would be, we would have come up with some sort of work around and started the costume judging in advance anyway, but we were thinking that in 'any minute" we would be able to get on stage.

Because the judges felt like they had more time, they really used it and enjoyed spending so much time giving tips to new cosplayers!  I plan on being involved in the Cosplay for Kumori 2005, but I'm hoping that there will be someone at the Portland meeting that is interested in the Cosplay position.  We don't want to reinvent the wheel.  People seemed to really enjoy it and the halftime entertainment (and agree with the decisions!) but I wear too many hats at the con already.  I'm hoping to find someone who is really good with crowds to run the pre-cosplay rehersal, get everyone lined up and ready to go, and leave me to things like making sure the forms and rules are available early, selecting judges and timing skits (and making decisions based on the rules if need be).

I'm so happy you were happy with it!

It really was a ton of fun!  And all the staff were super nice, especially the lady who was Cho Hakkai backstage and helped us all up to the stage and was there to congratulate us afterwards.  She was great to everyone!
And the cosplayers were all great, too.

The majority of us who had to go up on stage first stayed backstage and cheered on the later cosplayers.  It was a really good feeling and environment for a cosplay!  And it was sooooooo much fun!

I can't wait 'til next year when I have something to SAY instead of just getting scared and skittering off the stage  XI

All of the people were nice.  I liked the cosplays that I got to see, but I missed so many of them when I was backstage waiting to go on (I was Kikyou Reborn in the InuYasha cosplay)!!

Does anybody know if somebody got video of the other skits???  I'm bummed that I missed them.  It was my first cosplay ever, and I had no idea that I would miss so much of the con....*schniff*

Yes!   Obsessedwithanime.com takes tons of pictures and videos of the convention.  He has about 7 hours of video to go through so it takes a while.  Once he's done, he puts it on DVD and sells it pretty much for the cost of the DVD and postage.
