seriously, i need to know this, i want to go as Columbia to an upcoming con (most likely this one or next years maybe even sakuracon) would it be alright to do that? do you think i would have something bad said to me because of it? seriously, HELP O.O!!!

Speaking as someone who has gone to Kumoricon as Professor Lupin and Tom Riddle and to Sakuracon as Tom Riddle, I'd say go for it. There were even a number of other Harry Potter characters there and other non-anime, non-game characters and people loved them.

Only once did I receive a comment from someone saying "Harry Potter isn't anime," or something of the like at Sakuracon. Whatever it was it was pretty minor. Ignore it and they'll ignore you. React and they'll just keep going and make things worse.

We had Jesus last year, and people seemed to really enjoy it!
I think the chance of someone saying something would be only be slightly more then haters of the anime series would.

Honestly for a while I was toying around with the idea of going as Agent Mulder for 08 (Yes, from the X-files), and the non-anime thing never seemed like such a big deal.

I went as Shaun, from "Shaun of the Dead" at last years con. and it went over really well. so i would say cosplaying as non-anime characers is ok. as long as well they still follow the same guide lines as the anime related costumes.

I'm doing a Snowtrooper costume..and also have a non-anime pirate..so I too am one of those that have done it before. I think you'd actually get compliments more than anything else for doing Rocky Horror cosplay

I competely forgot. There was even a Captain Jack Sparrow at Sakuracon last year and people loved him.

I think that it's awesome that people go to Kumoricon or other anime conventions dressed as non-anime characters. The Kumoricon isn't strictly cosplay anime.

I've cosplayed anime characters and had people complain to me about my choice of character. (Why the Winry-hate?) Anyway, no matter what you do, or don't do, someone will be a dip about it. Don't worry about it too much

on the note of non anime cosplay, if i can confirm someone going as Eve(Applegeeks) I'll feel the need to chase said person around the park/hotel on a tricycle.

Is this in relation to what Krn Doxy said about non-anime cosplay on the SCMB? Blah- don't worry about her. People will always have their own opinions about cosplay and costumes. If you break the word down, cosplay means "costume play." Heck, even Japanese street fashion is called "cosplay." If fact, when you go to a bookstore and try to find books about clothes and fashion through the ages, they don't say "Fashion through the ages" or even clothes- they call it "Costume through the ages." Don't be discouraged by what you think other people might say. I'm cosplaying as Lara Croft and I'm thinking about bringing my V costume, so at least you won't be the only non-Japanese related cosplayer ^_^.

I totally agree with what everyone else has said. Cosplay whoever you want, and if people complain, they're either jealous cuz you're sexier than them or they think they rule the world, which they don't. ^^

We totally have an entire Invader Zim group for Kumoricon 2008, including Zim, Dib, Tallest Red and Purple, Gir, Gaz (maybe two of them X3 ), and possibly Prof. Membrane, as well as Emo Zim and Dib. It'll be a giant non-anime party! XD

I saw Jack from Jack in the Box at Kcon, our own tom riddle, 2 captain jack sparrows (sakuracon) amongst various other cosplays that weren't japanese or anime... oh yeah uhm the prospector from toystory....uh 2 i think? I saw that at my first con ^_^ not to mention all the other randomized outfits like school girls and nekos.. it all fits in and really people will love you if you try your best.

Yay for others that are cosplaying Invader Zim! I am going as Gir (robot form...not dog) to Sakura Con and maybe Kumoricon. I really, really want to cosplay Magenta from Rocky Horror Picture Show, maybe I can do it for Kumoricon.
