Seriously.  Thanks.  I know you guys put up with a lot, and I caused some trouble the last day.. I was the "nude" Sailormoon cosplayer.  Eh-heh heh I really just wanted to display the fact that my friend had been following the rules and shoulden't have been asked to change.  I'm sorry for the trouble I caused, and glad that so many of you were so nice, and several came to my rescue (they know who they are.  I love them with a passion o.o; )

And, if it makes you feel better, I was so embarrassed to actually be in that costume..   My friend had to loan me.. things to go under it.. my dress before didn't have a bra, and the panties were weird.  o.o That was the most awkward thing I've ever done.. *huggles everyone*

I'll just get off the soapbox now.  ^_^

*grins* I was in your corner 110%.  alot of the staffers thought it was pushin the rules but it WAS inside the rule limit :) but in the end modesty among minors won out and thus it was shot down.  *cries*  but hey it sure was fun while u guys were wearing it.  iv never seen so many people go bug eyed all at the same time LOL.

Thanks for supporting me ^_^  I do know about the new rule for next year, and I don't mind at all.  I think it's a good rule, actually.  I just think it was kinda silly that I was following the rules, and I was almost forced to change.

On a side note, neither have I.  Nor have I seen so many people debate whether or not it would be a good idea to support me/take my picture or not.  XD

*giggles crazilly*  Not like most of us minors are that innocent

Though my mom got annoyed at the cosplay contest due to that hilarious hairgel skit XD she covered my little sister's ears...

*sigh* But I explained to her the wonders of Shonen-Ai... and I believe she is now a fan!

Still, you could try controlling your hormones for three days couldn't you? And yes, that Hair gel skit was bad. But so damn funny!

yeah I also loved that costume and thought the staff were a little out of line, I mean if you can wear it in public it should be allowed in the con...

Control hormones at a convention, were Doujinshi run rampid? That's a silly thought.  ^-^  Some people do make it, though.

Yeah, I know, I did follow all rules.  Non thong bathing suit (and a layer under it, too) and I even put the shawl back around my waist after I was asked INCREADIBLY nicely.. I didn't have to be asked that nicely, but it was good to hear someone being so polite.  (Freekin' heart you.. Already said that to him, though.  And I'm horrible with spelling names, so I'm not gonna botehr, but I think it's Ryan.  Or.. whatever variation that may be. o.o Since there are so many..) .. I like that I said I wasn't going to bother, and then I did.

The thing is you wouldn't wear it out in public. Not if you had any self-respect. That just screams: "Hey! I'm underage! Wanna have sex?"

I sometimes wear my costumes out.. The thing is, it's a dance type thing.  And I DID have clothing on under it.  People wear MUCH less out.  Say.. to the beach or pool.  Have you SEEN some of the swimsuits there are out there?  0.o Jebus.

And I happen to have a lot of self-respect, and I would wear that costume in public, thanks.  I just woulden't walk around alone.  o.o; Preferably with someone tall and scary looking..

XD I did notice the age-rating seem to slide...

But the thing was, I wasn't trying to be perverted.  At least not in that costume.  XD.  Can't say anything else for any of my other costumes... say,, Mars... or Rei... o.o; Jebus I was pervy in those two.  But... anyways...   The episode is really graceful and beautiful.. If she'd been wearing a dress for the final sequence, I proubly would've made the dress (actually the FINAL final scene is in her school uniform, but no one would get the signifigance).

I actually found a screen shot of the episode.  If anyone here hasn't seen Salormoon SailorStars, this is was I was trying to accomplish, while still staying legal and somewhat modest.  http://friends.xocomp.net/mandy/episode%20199%20and%20200/eternalflying.jpg

Gods, I thank you eternally for putting that shawl on when asked, and not getting in the staff's faces about the situation.  You were well within the rules to wear that costume, as was your friend. (I saw you both, and thought it was pretty cool.)

But we recieved one complaint (the person in question was unfamiliar with the rules in Oregon, so his complaint was more from a different cultural stand point.), but we had to take it seriously as he also pointed out that you were a minor.

Next year, so sorry to tell you this people, but the rules for minors on such clothing are probably going to be different than the rules for adults.  It's more for a safety issue than anything else.

And there will be a rule about signs so that the incident with selling kisses does not happen again.  Sorry people, but no selling of services next year. ^.^;

Awww, and I was starting a quarter collection, too!

Shucks.

Also, hope you feel better now, Princessfrodo!

I was part of Fanfic Bedtime Stories and could easily tell that you were sick, so, hope ya feel much better now. I too was suffering from some medical problems (Swollen toe, swollen boil on my head (Which is why I wore that blasted hat ALL DAY AND NIGHT, I must hide the ugliness!), and generally sweating (Which isn't really a sickness or anything, I just find it annoying that I sweat SO much, though I think this was caused by my social anxiety problems)).

Wow.....see how it is?

DarkenedElf:

Well, thank you for being considerate, elf. Even though it might not have been breaking any rules (I haven't read them recently), please consider the position we staff are in: we're still relatively new to this, so we're learning it as we go. Often a rule doesn't occur to us until something causes a problem we have to deal with.

Your costume may have been legal to wear in public, but we also have to consider how the hotel would react, too, should you have worn it anywhere besides LL1 and LL2. So if anyone else ends up in DarkenedElf's situation, pleeeeease be considerate about it. Now, if any staff are outright rude to you, that's another matter. But please consider what it's like on our end, okay? We're people too. :)

Yeah, that actually kinda disturbed me...*_* I mean, I was one of the Glomp Line T-Shirt Ninjas with a sign that just said basically "lonely, need hugs, or glomps" but selling kisses, and to minors...I was starting to ponder about that.

You're quite welcome. I honestly enjoyed every minute of it. :)

I also have Matt to thank for covering for me at Karaoke Room earlier in the day so I could continue in the DDR tournament. It was unrealistic of me to think that I'd have more free time on Sunday... :?

Sailor moon is mostly a kids show. If she can be naked there...wtf is wrong with a tan bodysuit?  It's a real costume, from a real episode.  FROM A KIDS SHOW.  Man, for a con that originated in EUgene9a place full of nudist hippies), you sure seem to treat the idea even of nudity liek it's satan's spawn.

AT the same time, If I look at it from a conservative view, I can see why even the implication of nudity may be innapropriate, I was fully behind kelsey and ma girls.

I think that sentence is inappropriate, and I'm pretty hurt.
Please reread this thread. A congoer complained. We were forced to look into it. We're unhappy to make people change costumes, but for a couple of reasons I personally don't want to discuss here, we decided we should say something about it. We knew that her dress was appropriate according to our rules, but the last thing we want at the con is adults complaining, so all we did was talk very politely with her. We didn't force her to change. We didn't ask her to leave. We LIKE her.

You know, it sounds a little like you want to escalate this, but please realize, we're a bunch of anime fans who are constantly freaking out that someone from the real-world is going to totally shut us down because a minor does something they feel is too over-the-line and they blame us personally or worse, sue us.

So yeah, minors pretending they are naked, over-18's selling kisses to everyone including minors, sleep-parties in the hallway suggestively titled as "orgies" (yes I know it was just sleeping and glomping!) cause the people who fund the con (me and other staff) to have nightmares at night, because stuff like this is what leads to the hotel/police/parents shutting us down if we're not careful, and we could also lose all our money and never be able to hold another con again.

All it takes is one bad incident. One mistake. That's how close to the edge we are the entire time. So please forgive us our wariness.

Thanks, and please be polite,

Here comes my analogy again.  I'm using a child/adult relationship here, but I'm not taking down to the teens here.  I'd use this same analogy to a 50-year-old.

Any convention's relationship with the hotel is exactly like someone's cool but kind of conservative parents.  We beg the 'rents to let us have our huge party and they finially say, "OK, Kids!  We'll let you have your party as long as you are good, promise to pay for everything and don't scare the neighbors and our friends that will also be visiting at the same time!  If you are "bad," not only will we not let you have your party next year, we'll make sure all the other cool parents that would let you have your party know that you can't be trusted!"

And that's exactly what happens.  If enough people complained to the front desk, we have to make sure to maintain the relationship with the hotel and we HOPE the con-goer understands.  Going back to the child/adult thing, imagine having this cool shirt that says stuff on it your parents would never let you wear out of the house.  It's kind of like putting someting else over it as you leave and then pulling it off the coverup once you get far enough away.  (Also maybe wearing it after most of the parents with little kids with them were gone and having a coverup for the non convention areas would have been a good idea).

In a real world situation, Aka-Con out of Vancouver, BC (rumor has it), skipped out on huge hotel bills and caused so much trouble that it was almost impossible for any hotel to allow an Anime Convention in that city.  All the hotel operators network so word gets around.  Thank goodness Anime Evolution was able to get started (and was very creative in finding a venue).  The damage that Aka-con did may be starting to be forgotten in BC, but it took years.  And we aren't just doing it for anime fans. It's for any group of non-business type people that want to hold an event at places like big fancy hotels with meeting rooms.

I am not going to bash on the staff (heck I roomed with mostly security volunteers) I enjoyed Kumoricon more than I did Sakuracon. Every event was on time, the staff were easier to talk to. The only peeve I have is that it wasn't a 24 hour convention. I know the insurance would be 3 times higher, but I wanted to do some gaming. I know we had 1251 and I am already estimating 2000 next year, while sakuracon should reach 6000. I just hope that things are this cool next year. oh and a Labor day weekend made it even better!!!

thanks, omniwarrior :-)
I wanted to do 24 hours real bad this year too, but after talking to some convention organizers who have been doing this thing for decades, I think I'm changing my mind (my opinion, not official at all). I would like extended hours, but I think we should close our con for at least 3-4 hours every night to make sure congoers are forced to rest, and we can reset/clean any rooms that need fixing, especially video rooms, which can get pretty rank, and are always running.
Additionally, no staff wants to work the night shifts, or at least not enough. And the night shifts can be when the most trouble happens as it is, especially if people aren't well-rested. I'm beginning to think ultimately that 24-hour con is a little like playing Russian Roulette...
That said, I think we should extend hours to 2 or 3 next year, and that might be doable, though we'll definitely need about 3 times the staff we had this year to pull that off.

I don't regret this but I was the original person to wear the "nude" Sailormoon costume, the truth was I saw no problem with it and had no idea what so ever people would freak out or that it would cause disputes... I just thought of the costume about two nights before and was like "well there were about 15 girls at sakura con in nothing but bikinis, not even shoes or socks... and very light pink near nude color so why can't I?" the fact that somone had a problem with this disturbs me when both me and darkened elf were fully clothed but I respect the fact that we minors should be more conservative. I apologize for any inconveniance I may have caused... I am quite pleased however that I got an award for the costume and got my picture taken a few times before being forced to change... although I do know the picture will not be on this site, but I did request that the picture be sent to me and gave them my email, I guess I just kinda want to give them a reminder that I want the picture lol ^^. I mean if I actually got up my strength and wore that I really do want to see how the picture came out because I dont know anyone else who got a picture... (my gf did'nt take one of any of my costumes   ) I thank darkened elf greatly due to her protection of me... she is one of my closest friends, when she heard what happened she picked up the gauntlet and went to right a wrong lol so to speak (metaphorically speaking).

Also I have heard that the chairman of the the sakura con had a few choice words about my costume and the word "sl*t con" was used to describe what the con would be called if that type of costume was to be worn more often. This did hurt my feelings quite a bit, I have quite a bit of self respect (Thanks to counceling ^^;; ) but I only wore that costume because everyone always says how the body is a work of art... not to try to sell myself. I have a wonderful Girl friend and am quite content with just her. I do not wish to insult you but: To the chairman of sakuracon I am sorry if you found my costume "innappropriate" but the truth is the costume was completely innocent and the only people who would find it dirty are probably dirty themselves... and to judge someone that way before you meet them is abomidable, unpolite and could get you yourself into trouble one day.

My apologies for the trouble,
Lover of Haruka

I feel like I should be honest here, even if it gets me in a spot of trouble, sexiness_reborn, but since I didn't know you were cosplaying sailormoon it felt like your costume was designed for shock value initially. Not that it was, that's just my initial. non-dirty feeling. And if I, jaded-otaku-guy, get that feeling, I get more worried about parents/hotel/press getting that feeling.
I would really like an honest response to this and my previous post. You're not the one who could lose thousands of dollars; quite frankly it's me and my best friends.
And yes, I also sweat over some of the other costumes people dress up in too, it's not just you.
Hope I'm not being rude, just my point of view. To us staff it's not a matter of fair or unfair, it's a matter of we're safe or we're screwed.

Thanks, sexiness-chan.  ^.~  And shock value may have crossed her mind... Me it was mostly "God damn I love that costume" and "What?  They made Nelle upset when she was following the rules?  ... To hell with that" ..

I'm really over-protective of my friends.

Staff guy I understand completely and like I said I did'nt think it would cause problems but the fact that it did made me a bit remorseful. and zenix... no it was partially made for shock value... very partial, I made it because I love sailor moon and am a fan for life... I noticed no one had ever done nude sailor moon so I decided to do the costume because I wouldnt wear it unless I thought it looked good I never wear costumes I might look bad in because I dont want to ruin that character... ask darkened elf... shock value played an extremely minor role in the costume...and if you say that I di it for shock value you must be saying filkaeris did hers for shock value and hers was from naruto when he goes all naked woman in the thing... I just love sailor moon and wanted people to know that she wore that in episode 200 the final sailor moon anime episode made... I'm not trying to be mean but please next time ask someone if it was for shock value alone or just think before you say something because it can offend/hurt someone of even make them angry.

sexiness_reborn, you misunderstand me.
I needed to say that you were initially shocking, not to be rude, but so that you can understand what I'm looking out for, and again, that is parents/hotel/press, who misunderstand things to our detriment ALL THE TIME.
it's called a gut reaction, which is not always correct, but something that people tend to listen to. so if I have a gut reaction to something, I have to assume that not only will other random people as well, but they might actually FOLLOW that reaction and run with it before they have time to say, simply talk to you. :-(
Thankfully, it looks like we didn't actually have problems with the hotel/parents/press this year, so maybe people are beginning to figure us out!

Because you shouldn't go around telling people what they think.  if you'd read the entire thread, you'd know that shock-value was a minor role.  And you should care if you offend people because it's common courtesy for human beings that have any kind of social morality.

If you're not a big Moonie, you wouldn't understand anyway.  I know why you would wear it.  Maybe some day when the rules are changed you could get somebody to be the Galaxia-angel in the nude costume as well.  That was a beautiful and touching part of the series!

moonie = Sailor moon fan
I loved the outfit, I thought it was tasteful. I can see where people would get offended and such so it is an issue. And as said above people get offended way too easily. Just a word of warning, if you want to wear something like that make sure it comes with a stungun to keep the perverts in check... LOL

Actually, when sexiness and I are both legal, I hope we WILL do those two costumes.  I really wanna do Sailor Chaos and her be Galaxia for an upcomming convention.. ^_^

I really don't want people to argue over this one... I mean, after all, the convention's already over, and until someone comes up with a time machiene that can fix the threads of time without destroying the outcome for everyone else, then I suppose what's done is done.  ^-^;;;;;
