Since the game has been out for a couple weeks, I wondering if anyone is going to bring their set to Kumoricon next year. It would be a great addition in the gaming room! Who's with me on this? 8D

I haven't had a chance to play it, but it looks like lotsa, lotsa fun and I really want to try it. So I hope it'll be available for play at Kumori Con.

They have a lot of good songs, but its not hard on expert for guitars idk about the drums and microphones, cant play the drums demo since someone broke it at best buy>_<

We've been entertaining the idea of having a sort of "battle of the bands" contest for the rock band tournament, and holding it in main events. We'll let you know, but it will for sure be available for play.

If I were to play, I'd probably do the vocals. I can't keep a beat and I suck at Guitar Hero- but I can sing! I'm not good, but I can at least sing! And in the video clip I saw, they have a Killers song! I love The Killers ^_^.

Ooooh Rockband would be cool. We could just do what they did at Rockband party they had when they put it out. They had a small stage with the Rockband equipment, they had a large screen behind them so people could see what they were playing off of and then a couple of screens for the band to play off of. You could have two scores. One based off the game and then a score based off showmanship. Just a thought.

I love bass on expert! Since Rock Band's a lot easier than Guitar Hero I enjoy playing the bass cos I can actually HAVE FUN with the orange button~ Well, I can probably play guitar on hard; I don't remember if I did or not.

I find that the best way to sync myself for music games is to play a song twice.

It's a little tedious, but usually, if I haven't played a particular version of DDR, or IIDX, or guitar freaks in a while, I'll usually just play one song I'm paticularly fond of twice in a row. Usually, the first time I get a terrible score, and the second time I get a score in my typical range.

Case-in-point:
6 or 7 months ago, I grabbed my copy of DDR Extreme 2 US homeversion and started testing out an early model of one of my dance pads. I played a few songs, and it worked alright, so I decided to up the ante and try a 9 on it. I scrolled through the songlist for a familiar 9 and wound up on Be Lovin.

First play:
[bunch of perfects]
27 greats
4 goods
0 boos
2 misses

Second play:
[bunch of perfects]
3 greats
2 goods
0 boos
3 misses

I finally got a chance to play Rock Band at Sakura Con's holiday party and it was so much fun! The only instrument I can play is vocals because I sucked at Guitar Hero and I have no drumming skillz what so ever lol.

I brought in 8 PS2 games, a Beatmania IIDX Controller, a laptop, a PS2>USB adaptor, and 2 Dualshock 2's last year. You just have to check your stuff in with the gaming staff. Stuff was pretty secure. I felt like a couple of the staff were a little anal about it last year, but I was able to bring all my stuff in and feel pretty comfortable. I'm going as staff this coming year, and I certainly don't see a problem with people bring in their own things to use, but make sure it's securely personalised if it's valuable. There's really no way to differentiate between one person's PS2 and another person's PS2 unless there's something significantly identifying about it. I'll try to remember to bring the subject up with some of the other gaming staff at the next meeting and make sure there's a nice clean way of handling people bringing in their stuff, but it's certainly not a bad thing for the con, so we really don't want to stop you from bringing your stuff, and I'd personally try to facilitate it as much as possible.

The drum and vocals are actually really accurate to the real thing. The guitar and bass obviously aren't. The game still needs a keyboard module before I'll buy it.

A Rock Band Tournament would we cool..But there alot of work and require for 4 people...4 good people to do well...other wise u have alot of fail in the group..
Oh well..but since it is a great game..but limit the amount of people that can enter..other wise u could get up to 100 entry's very easy. We had one at fanime called open mic and it was alot of fun and we had 50 groups enter...if u do one good luck.

I've never played Rock Band myself, but am a Guitar Hero vet of sorts, for what it's worth. Definitely looking forward to giving it a whirl, if it's possible when the tournament isn't going on.

For some reason, I've always thought it'd be funny to grab the mic and do completely inappropriate vocal styles for certain songs - like slurred (ala Kurt Cobain) or 80s hair metal (like the greatest fictional band ever born on the interweb, Limozeen). It'd probably tank the band's score, but I think it'd be amusing all the same.

I'm really good at guitar, I have all the guitar hero's and rock band (sadly my RB disc broke recently) guitar got too easy so I started playing drums, I can play all the songs on the drums on medium and most on hard if anyones looking for a recruit.

But how would they equal out the playing field - there are a level of players from easy to expert. It wouldn't be fair to have an easy band of players against an expert band of players, you'd have to think of some means to even it out in scoring.
Oh, and I'll play drums for anyone - I kicks teh butt on rockband expert on everything but Mic. I can only do hard on mic, but I can do it while playing another instrument.

Great; that WILL get you points.

Certain lenience will be granted for bands formed on-site, but in general, group cosplays, matching outfits, choreography, etc will get you points with the visual judge. This will probably be Boogiepop (assuming she's free), an active cosplayer and a trusted friend of mine.

I do need a third judge too, if possible.

Okay - i don't know if this is up to argument - but I've been trying to put a band together and it's IMPOSSIBLE to find anyone who can play on the expert level across boards. After reflecting I think the judges should consider allowing hard mode to participate - being as there are less notes to hit, meaning a lower score will be accomplished. Let that be the handicap for the hard players against the expert ones - that would also open up the audience of people that could play.
Is that even an option? If not - I'm a drummer looking to be picked up by a band - I've got a vocalist with me! We have no guitar or bass though and she has trouble on some of the upper songs for singing - seeing as she's NOT MALE (sexist rockband)

Hard mode players will certainly be within consideration unless we fill our registration cap with teams of all Expert Level players. The intent is to target the tournament itself towards those who are highly accomplished first, although this particular tournament will lean far more towards entertainment value than score.

Teams should definitely consist of all Hard/Expert players if you want to have a chance of qualifying, since it will likely be a popular event.

A tentative qualification process is as follows:
Expert - 3 points
Hard - 2 points
Other - 0 points

So, a team of 3 expert level players would qualify at 9 points, a team of 4 hard level players would qualify at 8 points.

Due to the fact that this tournament is a judged performance, we are seriously considering allowing bands to have auxiliaries - dancers, keyboardists, et cetera - in addition to those actually playing the game. More details on this will be available later.
