How does this sound for our anime club?
« on: November 20, 2007, 01:51:02 am »
Borderlands Games is a retail store in Salem, Or. We have a back gaming hall that can hold up to 150 people. We are now carrying anime, manga and realted toys, accessories as well as Japanese snacks and want to start an anime club.

I posted this here so it wasn't buried in the advice from other members. This is our current plan as of now, but we want everyones feedback to make improvments. Please give advice to how we can make changes to improve our plan.

Thanks in advance for your advice :)

Starting Nov. 29th. Every Thursday Night 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

We will be showing assortment of anime movies during this time. Customers are welcomed to bring anime they wish to share and requests are welcomed. No hentai or excessive adult material. If you have any questions about a movie being suitable, please ask our staff. In addition:

- Cosplay is encouraged! If 10 or more customers come in costume, then we will have a costume contest and give away prizes! You cannot win with the same costume twice in a row or more than once in a month.

- Raffle prizes each week to those attending! We are going to give away promotional items and cool products from your favorite publishers. You must be present to win a raffle prize.

- Bring Friends! If you bring a friend who has never attended our club night before, you and your friend each recieve an additional entry into the raffle for the evening.

- On anime club night we offer a special reward program! For every 25.00 a customer spends on anime/ manga related mercandise they get a 5.00 credit they can use however they wish.

Should we pre select movies and advertise them or go with the flow of the crowd that shows up?

What is the best way to advertise this?

That does sound cool.  A lot of us live in Portland though so you guys in Salem area are lucky <3  I have a suggestion though for the future.  You should capitalize on the upcomping meetings that k-con staff is having in Salem (you would have to check when the next one is) and do some sort of anime or gaming thing special then too!  It would be something fun to keep us in Salem for awhile  ;) ;)

Definately choose the titles in advance and advertise as such. You get 30 anime fans in a room and ask them "what do you wanna watch" you are just asking for trouble.

Make a ballot with a few choices for the following week, that way people feel like they have some control over what they see. You could show episodes featured on the OTAKU USA or NEWTYPE USA DVD's...(first episodes, new titles available for sale, too). You know "Looking for some new anime? Here's the first ep of Venus Versus Virus. Liked it? Then buy the Vol. 1 DVD with 3 more episodes on it."

As we get things established we would love to work with the k-con staff. We got plenty of room. We could even host salem mini events and the like. Have them contact us at borderlandsgames@yahoo.com and make sure they request to be forwarded to isaac and nate.

That is a great idea :) Those preview DVDs are a great way to give most everyone something they haven't seen yet.
