Alone in the Dark Panel?

Would anyone be interested in helping me run a panel on the darker animes and the mythology behind them?

Examples: Hellsing, Soul Taker, Devil Lady, Ghost Stories

Don't forget Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) as one of the darker anime.  As well as 'Here and there, now and then', 'Gunslinger Girl', 'Angel's Egg', and 'Jin-Roh'.

I can't help you with the panel, I'm afraid I don't know anything behind the mythology of darker anime, but I do know a lot of the darker anime.  Because angst is our friend! =^.^=

umm I woudl love to help you.
I really like horror,  and have been searching for any that I can find.
I have also looked into japanese folklore, and mythology, (though not much)
So I can help with anything along the lines of horror, folklore, and mythology.

Is gunslinger girl really a dark anime....? I never really thouhgt of it as one.

yeah i would be willing to help out with something like that.  thats totaly my kind of thing.  after i see a show im always going on about the cultural references in it, or the origins of whatever mythological beastie is in it.  the idea of doing research for something like this sounds like oogs of fun...mmm campbell..... also i just changed my major back to anthropology, maybe i could turn it into some kinda independent study for credit thing....

You should throw Boogiepop Phantom and Higurashi no naku koro ni in the list though :P And if you get those there then I'm totally perfect to help since I know too much about both of those anime @.@ ::{my two personal favorites}::

I think that's an awesome idea! I could probably help out a little with Hellsing, but I don't know the other ones too well...But I would definately attend that. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know.  :wink:

Really sweet idea. I don't know too much about history, unforunately, but just another suggestion. A great anime I've been watching which seems to have huge cultural/mythological potential is "Requiem from the Darkness". Definitely horror, dark, and plenty unique.

I'm going to be busy with my own panel, but I would hit up a university library if you can find it. Beaverton's got a pretty sweet library, but university libraries, at least the one at UofO which is pretty dang big, can be pretty extensive with reference. Plus they only have academic reading, too.

Just throwing it out there ^^; I don't know if community colleges have libraries, but I'm sure they must have SOMETHING.

It's not much help, but I hope it does a bit.

Oh! Doing a background story on "Gensomaden Saiyuki" would be good, too! "Dragon Ball" was loosely based off of that story. There's a good book on the original story called "Monkey" that I really enjoyed reading.
