Thank Someone Important to You!
« on: September 05, 2007, 04:24:44 am »
  Hello there
I have noticed that a lot of people feel like maybe they didn't get the recognition they deserved or that maybe they went unnoticed or unappreciated.  I would like to change that.  This is a thread to thank someone who did something special for you, someone whom you think deserves to know that you appreciated their effort.  This could be anyone from a staff member, to a hotel employee, to a volunteer, a vendor, a guest, or an attendee.  If someone helped you to your room when you were exhausted or gave you a smile which made your day, here is the chance to thank them for it.

For my part I would like to thank:

The K-con staff, who worked all year to make this convention a reality
The volunteers, who gave their time and effort for this convention without any of the perks
To the guests who came and gave us such wonderful performances
To the tech crews who set up our equipment
To the hotel who supported us in every way they could
To the relief group who's name I sadly can't remember who kept us supplied with water and food when we were close to collapse
To the Pocky club and Maid Squad who helped keep the attendees informed and happy as they sat in line with no entertainment
To the city for having us
To everyone who brought us some lost item they had found, in hopes of it being returned
To Sakuracon for helping us through these early years and giving us your expertise and experience (and your staff)
To backspace for helping with our gaming
To the panelists for your ideas, your time, and your knowledge
To the creation station for helping us express our creativity
To the Manga library for giving us a quiet place to simply sit and read
To the Hotel Management who arranged things for us and accomodated our needs
To the Hotel Security who were as supportive of us as could be imagined
To the vendors for coming and providing us so many things to slake our desires
To the Press for making us feel important enough for print
To Meg Uhde for all her thoughts
To Rian Muller for helping me get the information I needed
To Ryan Staze for keeping us so organized that we didn't descend into chaos
To Brenda McFadden for organizing so many great events
To Tara Staze for always having a smile on her face
To Vallie, Jackie, Mama Kat, and every other manager (whos' names I am probably spelling horribly) for giving us so much of your time and effort even if they didn't work out as hoped.
To my loyal Yojimbo, who put up with more then I could ever have imagined without a single word of complaint.  Who, even knowing what the job entailed have come back year after year to pay their way in and never see any of the things they wanted to.  For trying to take care of me when I pushed myself too far, even as I was trying to take care of them.  For being patient with me, understanding of my demands on them.

And all those whos' names I never had the chance to learn.
To the guy in the elevator who randomly thanked me for all our hard work when I was worn out from a 27 hour work shift.
To the young boy who smiled at me
To every person who thanked me for doing my job
To everyone who recognized me from previous years
To the guy who actually asked to have his picture taken with me, which made me feel special like I never have before.
To the woman in the beautiful ball gown who thanked me for asking if she was well
To everyone who came in such beautiful costumes.
To everyone who was understanding of our mistakes
To the man whom I, very regretfully, had to serve a noise complaint upon, who was understanding why I had to speak with him
To the woman who was so happy and smiling when I was able to help her by just doing my job.
And to Bronwyn, who believe in me, who trusted me, who supported my decisions and my efforts, who proved a very true friend.

Any person that let me or my brother or friend get their picture taken with them. ^_^;
Every single person that put in time and effort to make the convention work.
Every single person that I had the pleasure of talking to.
I know I mentioned it before, but the 2 guys that said they'd walk with me up the stairs to the 3rd floor to visit con ops because I'm wayyyyy too claustrophobic to go in an elevator. ^_^;
My brother for providing transportation and giving me an 'L' necklace. And food (we took turns.. I paid for his ticket, too.. soo.. equivalent exchange, or something.)
My friend for providing transportation when my brother was too sick to make it Monday. ;___;
Anyone that cosplayed as Chi, hahahaha. ^____^
The Goggle Squad guy (cosplaying as Jet Set Radio character, I believe). Wish I would have had more time to talk to you, since you seem like a really cool and outgoing guy. Or at least got your picture. Do you post here?!

Well...let's see:

- Thanks to Andie for giving me the opportunity to be a lackey and actually work a bit.
- Thanks to Guy for also keeping my funny bone going with some of the AMVs that he worked on.
- Thanks to Kylite and Hawkeye for being willing and able to take a totally flustered Floor Manager and help him out without complaint.
- To the staff who helped me in seating at cosplay, as even though there were some glitches with seating, the overall work did well.
- Thanks to Justin, my fellow Cosplay manager-type, for giving me information on things related to how to work with crowd control and work on stage presence.
- Thank you to every yojimbo that was on board this year. You guys not only were and are awesome, but you all proved to have good senses of humor even when sleep deprived.
- A thank you to Vallie for being willing to take over certain responsibilities temporarily and being really great about it. May your wedding be a beautiful one. :)
- A thank you to Aaron McPherson, a yojimbo dressed like Ranma. In certain times, when there were panels that went kaboom or were in the potential category for going kaboom, he made a wonderful effort to get people together. And it worked out well.
- And a thanks to everyone in the Kumoricon organization for welcoming me in. I pray that my performance this weekend was up to standard, or was at least alright.

To Eric, whom without I doubt Nekopan would have made it to the con.  You championed us all the way, my friend, and we're very greatful!
To everyone else who helped make Nekopan possible, including my fellow bakery members.
To the very tolerant staff who put up with me sneaking in the back way to our booth, despite not having a Exhibition badge.  I really -was- supposed to be there, so thank you for believing me!
To anyone we gave cookies to; you guys rock!
To anyone who took my picture; I love you all!

Thanks to the hotel staff for being so great this year.
Thanks to the staff, for just being a damn cool (and hard working!) group of people.
Thanks to that one girl who smiled at me, and hugged me, on (Sunday?) when I was feeling a little down. It meant a lot.
Thanks to that one little kid. In the suit, with the aviators. You were **** awesome looking.
To all the people who took my picture! 8D
To all of the "Uryuu! *hugs*" people.
...I know there are a lot more, but it's late, and I can't think of anything else.
So really, thanks to everyone who was there and just making it what it was.

I know this sounds lame, but I'd like to thank Everyone.  There are so many things I didn't see, so many things that could have gone horribly wrong, so many little things that had to go right.

However, those I want to thank the most are Meg Uhde for reigning in and being the benevolent dictator that con chair needs, and Bronwyn Williams for giving her all to back the forces of good.  I understand your need for a break from what must be an incredibly stressful position, and hope you will be able to someday return to the job you've proven your great at.  I know one of the people I went to the con with was seriously considering ways of lightening the stress load for such a position after seeing even a glimpse of what happens at a convention like this.

I want to thank everyone who gave me love in my Goofy costume. I felt really stupid in it a lot of times, so everyone that took my picture really boosted my confidence.

And to a cosplayer dressed as Naruto standing near the Game Room on Sunday night when I walked by with (I think Bakura...?) when I was dressed as Joey from YuGiOh, who said Joey was their favorite character and hugged me. I was having the worst night on the face of the planet due to issues and people being rude to me. You made me smile.

I want to thank all my roommates, who did wonderful things like give me icyhot patches and dealing with my rank-smelling L shirt on monday.

I want to thank those three wonderful people that gave me back-saving massages on sunday: Emo-L and the two naruto character cosplaying ladies! Without you guys, i'd probably still be in serious pain >.o

I want to thank all the people that cheered me on! Staying in character was hard work, but all of you made it worth it! All of you hugging me and being really excited that it was the "ducky boxers" L made me happy that i about what i was doing. (also, the people that cheered me on as i slowing hobbled up the stairs that one day... xD too awesome)

I want to thank all the people not really part of con (like the people at subway) but where there anyways for not freaking out at seeing someone that looked unwashed, drug-addicted, sleep-deprived, not-really-sure-of-gender, and just generally weeeeeeeeird.

I also want to thank all the people that made Kcon happen! because if they didn't do their thing, then Kcon wouldn't have exsisted for all this awesomeness to happen at!

and <3<3<3<3<3<3 to everyone else that i might have missed!

I want to thank Renee, Brenda, and the male gaming staffer (I sadly do not remember his name) for sticking up for me when I made a decision to enforce con curfew and got overturned during night 2 of the con.

Thank you Dan for getting back into your Angelo cosplay so kylite and I could get DQ8 pictures.

Thank you to the young lady who helped me come up with the brainchild idea of a boffer panel, thanks to the boffer vendor for helping us and being so excited about it.

Thank you to....  everyone...  Cause everyone is awesome.

All the attendees for your enthusiasm and love of the con.   You're the ones we do this for.
Meg...  because she works so hard and puts so much into every single thing.  Registration wouldn't have been nearly as awesome this year if she hadn't been nearly as involved as she was from the beginning.
Rian, cause you do tons of stuff too, and you don't get a lot of credit.
Brownie for having the mercy to not strangle each and every one of us.  I know how difficult it is to fight that urge to kill at times.
John Krall, for stepping up and picking up the pieces.  You deserve tons of respect.
Each and every volunteer...  you guys did so much just for the hell of it and really didn't get as much in return as what you deserved.  :(
Specifically Jaz and Rachael, for busting your butts for me before and during con, and for putting in too many hours to even freaking count (something over 70).  You guys are just gonna be staff next year, right?  Right??
To anyone who drove me anywhere this year for con related stuff, Jaz and Chris, Leashy, Meg and Rian, Kenton, Mike, Dawn, Kry, Patrick...  And anyone I forgot.
To anyone who got me food during con...  Like Kry and Michelle.  You have no idea how much I appreciate food deliveries when I'm doing con work for 14 hours straight with little more than 5 minute potty breaks here and there.
To Tom, for putting up with me and trying to stand in for me when I can't be there.
To Mike Dawn Andrew and everyone who worked on Reg at any point before or during con.  Holy crap do I appreciate each and every one of you, but there's too many to name and some of you I don't know your names.
To the girl from A Key Kyo for giving me a hug on the last day.  I hope you guys got food.
To Hawkeye, Kenton, and Megan Huey for helping me get from Beaverton to Portland on Friday and waiting around my apartment for the check that never came.
To anyone who asked me how I was.  I wasn't, and I thank you for acknowledging.
To whoever nominated me for director of programming in 08...  I couldn't accept because of previous engagements (pun intended), but if it means you thought I might do a good job with it, I appreciate the thought.
To anyone who thanked me for anything because it makes the blood sweat and tears worth it knowing that someone out there appreciates it.
To those taking my positions next year, should you choose to accept...  I know you guys will do a great job in 08.

well pretty much i love everybody *group glomp*

jess thanks for putting a thank you to creation station in your post, and for starting the thread, and for taking the time in the middle of the night to respectfully explain how the ratings change for one of our panels occurred.

brownie i will always owe, she knows why (sak '05).

brenda and i really got along well this year which was a major highlight for me.

ed helped me online a lot and helped me get prizes monday morning when there wasn't kumoricash.

jaki is this incredibly reliable person who gets everything accomplished for everyone without seeking fanfare (but thereby building up a strong fan base).

gina is another known for quiet reliability.

dash always brightens the day simply by being her adorable self, but this year got to officially be a bearer of food sustenance too.

andi for coming and plugging the kerade at dollymaking and sewing a lovely bag (and various chats)

guy for letting me and folks i brought in join as panelists on religion in anime, with a wide variety of experiences, and for always enlightening me to something erudite in every conversation

rian for generally being a source of clarification, guidance & support

meg for being diligent, organized, reliable, yet never ceasing to be charming and impressively arrayed

steve lewno for bringing great cheer along with great gear

derek for pinch hitting for an ill catgirl rin rin and running dolly making workshops with virtually no notice and (for second session) virtually no supplies

dave mccarley & hotel banquet staff bob & ???spacing her name, started with an a, and suresh for improvising room arrangements

tom the fanboy for helping prod the schedule along, innovating neato new forms and threads and events, reliably being energetic & glad to see me/anyone, and finding volunteers to help me not have to carry too heavy of stuff

sarah b. and jeff for fun i had helping at asian celebration before con and other publicity stuff like being sure event descriptions were right

carl horn from darkhorse comics for stepping in to help with religion in anime

marianne from copic whose sponsorship, prizes & loaners make our art contests thrive

and everyone from the_creation_station yahoo group who helped in Cedar as staff, volunteer, panelist, or event participant (and those who did from outside that group)

this list includes but is not limited to nicole (fanfic judge and general right hand as well as panelist & author), audrey (fanfic judge and multiple panelist/event facilitator & performer), sandi (fanfic judge and panelist & author), kayla (assistant, panelist, art judge, mangaka), kasa (art judge & author), blackjack (panelist & author), kitty (in absentia), carl (made excel sheet for tracking copics), steve (reliable volunteer & author), ketsuban (staff, panelist, artist & author), cassie (panelist), cryo (panelist), kate (volunteer and panelist with me on religion plus conduit to carl horn, and artist & author), jenioctavia (volunteer & religion copanelist as well as author), mouse (artist, author, panelist on teddy bears & helper on dollies), anty3m (volunteer), anyone else i'm accidentally spacing in the moment, and also an honorary mention to the yojimbo (nate?) who was sent to card folks at one of our events when we weren't expecting it, and was reasonably polite about it, stayed for the whole workshop and laughed along with it, then told us he would've been there to listen (to an advanced fanfic topic) anyway, then vouched for us its content was really pg-13. we were surprised when he arrived but enjoyed having him there after we figured out what was up. for which also an honorary thank you to the minors who had to leave unexpectedly early from the art contest but came back the next day and were fine about it. also big thanks to everyone who performed in our improv games, i would say in many ways this was the year with the biggest and most amusin participation overall and also with the highest participation of younger folks new to our room

if i missed naming you i didn't mean to!

oh and special thanks to anthony, my personal companion in the absence of whose help with packing & driving i wouldn't have been able to manage the commute between con and my paid job in eugene which rescinded my time off just weeks before con

again thanks not only to all the above but to anyone i don't know to name or forgot to name, every little bit of help is genuinely a needed part of the overall whole! i love you! we of cedar room love you!

I know I have sad it many times before and in other threads. But.......... I got a chance again so i might as well take it.

Thanks to all the staff and volunteers, I know I didnt interact with you guys much, but you kept the place from utter chaos and panic.

Thanks to all those  that took my picture or complemented me on my costume. I didn't think that I did that good a job on the hat.

To all those that recognised and called me out as my char (what I was portraying), i'm stoked at that.

To the ninjas and other pirates, with out you all I wouldn't have all those hours of entertainment. (Thanks for the good matches ninjas)

Thanks to those that gave the ball room dancing lessons and took a little extra time to make sure I was on track with it. I always like to learn something new.

To all those nice ladies that I danced with at the mascarade, just seeing the smiles on your face was wonderful.

To those in the glomp circle thanks for making me so welcome.

I'd like to thank Jess for thinking of this thread, because he's so right, a lot of people who worked hard on our staff feel very underappreciated.

I want to thank washougal_otaku, Aaron McPherson for being an amazing and dedicated panelist coordinator. He got the shaft by having nothing to do all year and no direction, and on Friday he asked me what he could do, and then worked the entire con! He was awesome! Thank you, Aaron.

I want to thank Jaki Hunt and Gina Stauber for working their asses off cleaning up other peoples' fiascos, picking up a ton of slack dropped by other people in programming, and to make programming look like it was being run by pros to the attendees.

I want to thank Michelle Grant for sticking with her staff preservation idea and keeping all our staff nourished and sane when they couldn't give themselves the time to eat.

I want to thank Tara Fuller for constantly making runs to Costco to get supplies we needed at the last minute. She had to do this almost the whole con and was largely unrecognized because her efforts always required her to disappear off the site.

And I want to thank Meg most of all, for picking up everyone else's slack all year long, and working on the con in every second of her spare time for the last year.
