Gaming 2007 Policies & Rules - PLEASE READ!
« on: August 14, 2007, 04:06:26 pm »
Gaming at Kumoricon 2007 is intended for all attendees to have some fun times playing games, but is also a large investment for the con and thus needs a robust security system. This year we are implementing some new rules, which are laid out here. These rules will be posted at all times inside the Gaming room.

1.   THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINK ALLOWED IN GAMING AT ANY TIME. This is non-negotiable. If you have food or drink in gaming, you may be asked to leave the room until you are finished eating/drinking.

2.   Gaming will have only ONE entrance and ONE exit, which are different doors on the same wall, facing the registration desk. Yojimbo will be checking badges both ENTERING and EXITING gaming. This is for your protection – wouldn’t you like to know if you lost your badge inside the gaming room before you leave it?

3.   There will be a bag check at the door. ANY bag, no matter HOW small, MUST be checked. You will be given a numbered clothespin corresponding to your bag’s number. YOU MUST return the clothespin to get your bag back, so DO NOT set it down! You are permitted to keep your handheld gaming systems with you while in the gaming room, as gaming does not have them for checkout. If you have not checked your bag inside, a staff member or Yojimbo may ask you to do so.

4.   Equipment check/donations: If you are bringing a game, console, or controller/accessory into the gaming room you are REQUIRED to check it in with the gaming staff at the table. At that time you may note whether or not you would like to leave it for other people to use, or if you are bringing it for personal use while in the room. We will place an orange sticker on any temporary items for personal gaming use. This way, if our roaming Yojimbo sees you putting equipment in your bag or attempting to leave with it, they will not stop you at the door. Please see the Equipment Check/Donations thread for details on loaning items for the weekend.

5.   Checking out games, controllers, and accessories: You may check out games and controllers from the available stock. To check out a game, you are required to place your con badge and a photo ID as collateral with the gaming staff. You may have a maximum of ONE game and FOUR controllers checked out in your name at one time. We would recommend not checking out controllers for other people if you don’t know them – if they want to play with you, they are welcome to check out a controller themselves. When the items you have checked out are returned, you will receive your collateral back. We will store the collateral pieces in a safety lockbox to avoid any issues. Both Washington state law and Kumoricon policies state you are to have photo ID on you at all times, so you should not have any trouble adhering to these policies.

6.   Stations will be numbered and systems will be assigned to each. Do not move the systems to new stations; they are where they are intended to be.

7.   If gaming staff are setting up for a tournament, you may be required to move to a new station. Please do not give the staff any trouble in moving.

8.   If you would like to play a game at a popular station, form a line behind the current player. If you are playing on a station and there is a line behind you, please let them play after the next round. NOTE: The Guitar Hero II station will be stationary and the game/controllers will not be moved, so a line for this station will be acceptable. If you have checked out a game at a station and other people would like to play it, either stay at the station to keep an eye on your game, or have the new person check it out in their name if you would like to leave. It is general etiquette that the winner of a match remains, while the loser of a match is rotated as necessary. If you are a winner and have cycled through all the players in line, it is recommended for you to step out and re-join the cycle.

9.   Tournaments: Tournaments are in the schedule, and will also be posted on a signboard for the day at the Gaming desk. Tournament signups will be available starting Saturday morning for ALL tournaments – you must sign up IN PERSON with a STAFF member at the computer. Entries for a tournament will close TEN MINUTES before the start time. You will be required to provide your full name and phone number for the signups, and we may call you if any changes are made to the tournament schedule. DURING a tournament, current standings and matches for the next round will be POSTED on a monitor at the Gaming desk. Any information you need will be ON that monitor, so please do not ask the Staff about the tournament unless the information you need is not posted. All matches are TIMED, and the rounds will be announced WITH timeslots before the tournament. If your match is not for a while, you may leave the gaming room until your match begins, but PLEASE note that if you are late for your match, your name will be called twice before you are disqualified.

10.   Prizes & Tournament Results: Tournament winners will collect prizes AFTER their tournament has ended COMPLETELY. Any loser’s brackets must be resolved before prizes. Results will be posted in the Gaming forum as well as in the Gaming room after the tournaments end. Winners’ names may be published later on.

11.   Conduct: This room is meant for people to have FUN in! Please refrain from using profanity while in the gaming room, as there are often minors present. If your actions have been deemed as disorderly conduct or the staff feels you are not contributing positively to the atmosphere, you may be asked to leave the Gaming room at any time.

Thank you!

Sounds like pretty solid rules... Not too strict, and easy to do. I hate it when I'm playing "Halo 2" or anything else with people, and if they die, they swear like they just lost a finger or something.
