I'm pretty sure that would be a yes you can get kicked out. The Policies page (http://www.kumoricon.org/?page_id=44) states among the things not to do, in the Offensive and/or Illegal Behaviour section, "Consumption of alcohol in the Convention Space ". This, I can only assume, intails being drunk in the convention space.

Basically because this is an all-ages event, very family friendly, it reflects badly on the Con to the public to have anybody appearing tipsy, even if they are doing no harm. There are hotel rooms for things like drinking and being tipsy, but the public areas are for the public, and thus, must be representable, as well as those who are there.

Well said my good sir, well said. I don't know the "official" policy, but I'd go by that one.

additionally we yojimbo, IF adised of an individual being "inebriated" at the convention will speak with the person and find out whats going on. If they are drunk, we will ask them to leave the con space and go to their hotel room to sleep it off, usually taking the badge as well atleast until they have had a chance to sleep it off. If the person in question gets too out of hand, we do reserve the right to remove the badge permanently.

I think you're allowed to drink at the hotel bar though, as long as you're not a crazy drunk hehe, and don't bother con people when you're there.

A good rule of thumb here is the law is still the law. If it's illegal outside the con, it's still illegal inside the con. If Yojimbo, or any staffer, find anyone who is underage and has been drinking, we will pull their badge and that person will be asked to leave.

Well, there's a ton of great places in Portland, but I wouldn't venture to vouch for the 'couv.  I'll hoist one with ya at the hotel bar though!

Apparantly there is one good jazz bar but I haven't been to it. I think it may be on 6th and Main. But all the bars that I know in the area of are holes in the wall(s). But if you're a non-smoker the upside is that Washington has banned smoking in all bars.

I'm glad they banned smoking b/c i would like die if they still had smoking at bars....start wheezing and can't breathe....It's sad i never really went out and celebrated my 21st b-day last year like alot of people do....bars are really not my thing anyways~i'd rather be at home and drink since 1. if you don't have a designated driver your stuck there 2. if you your own beer/hard-a its way cheaper  ;)

though I have avoided putting them on the map (much like I did not include the machine gun selling pawn shops) there are several bars within stumbling distance of the Vancouver Hilton. Most of them are East and North of the hotel. A quick driveby on Friday night should reveal them to you.

Though, I would like to note, the liquor stores were mentioned on my map even if they are a couple blocks north of the map's edge.

If I understand right, you are allowed to drink in your own room of course, you just cannot charge for drinks or serve any alcohol to underage persons. But if you want to have your own little adults-only room party, that's cool right? I come from a lot of conventions who thrive on nightly room parties - with themes! People sometimes make donations if they choose to drink but the 'tenders always check IDs. Might be something to put in the con policy if it comes up...

sorry if I came off a little harsh in that regard. I just really don't want drunken attendees wandering the con space.  if your are going to have a party in your room, just keep it among your friends but don't let it get out in the general population of the convention.

We honestly have no control over what you do in your rooms, but we do ask for some common sense and courtesy :)

again thank you and again sorry if I sound too harsh.

I apologize for my post having absolutely nothing to deal with what this thread is about, but I just had to compliment you on your avatar. How can someone not love that cute little Todai character? Did you take your photograph with the character at the actual restaurant or did you see him elsewhere somehow?

I don't live in Portland, unfortunately, but I've been to the Todai restaurant in Pioneer Place about three times. So, from what I recall, that's the only place where I've seen the character at. If there's any other Todai restaurants in Portland or in Oregon period, I wouldn't know about it whatsoever.
