Well everyone, I have some big news.

After months of paperwork, testing, and other random stuff, I am happy to announce that I have been accepted into the Graduate Program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (Honolulu). I'm really excited and nervous about this.

Why am I posting this in the Kumoricon forums? Sadly, classes start in mid. August which means I'm going to miss Kumoricon this year. It takes 2-3 years to finish the program which means I'm also going to miss the next one and, unless I do really well in everything, the one after that.
I was a little sad to discover this but it's such a huge oppotunity for me. Even though I won't be able to go to Kumoricon for awhile, I'll still try to hang out with you guys on the forums.

And who knows, when I come back I may actually be Negima Sensei.

fyi, though folks have to attend kc to enter the kc fanfic contest, such is not the case for anime evolution.........
and for a.ev., the publisher is involved.......so.....yeah, work on some manga & send it to my p.o. box before you go!

wahhhhhhhh!!!!! i heard from tom first, i was like "why would he want to go to grad school in hawaii?!?!?!"

but no really congrads!!! what are you going to be studying?
tempted for grad school for my major of psy but the math aspect scares me

I'll be studying in the Japanese Lit. department. They also had a Linguistics department but between the two Lit.'s requirements were more appealing to me. I'm planning to take courses in how to teach Japanese so, who knows, I might even become a GA (grad. assistant).

One word of advice when you visit the city of refuge on the Kona coast make sure it's not on a day the Maxihune is there. (That being a 500 pound man in a loincloth/thong who looked like a huge version of the menehune on tropical drink straws) It was a very scary afternoon

You'll earn yourself a t-shirt by handing out flyers in Hawaii and manning our booth at Kawaii Kon. *snicker*

Are you going to live out there year roud or will we have a chance at seeing you next summer?

Chances are I'm going to stay year-round. I want to finish getting my degree as fast as I can. However I'm probably going to come back to the mainland for holidays.

I just checked out the Kawaii Kon Forum. It suspiciously looks like ours :wink: . There was even a Neko-Chan.

Aww, that's both good and bad news. I hope you enjoy yourself in Hawaii! I've known several people who have gone to college over there (none as grad students, though, that I know of). And definitely go to Kawaii Con if you can afford airfare! (I'm assuming it's held on Kaua'i, but I were them, I'd call it Kawaii Con even if it was held on Oahu; the pun is just too good to pass up either way.)

Hope to see you at least one more time before August.

(Yeah, I know, I'm bumping this thing after it died about 2 months ago but I didn't want to start another thread)

The day has finally come. I board an airplane tomorrow and go off to grad. school.
But before that happens, I have to quickly pack.

I'm contacting you guys from a hotel. (Thank gawd for free internet access)
To answer your question jaybug, I've been really busy. I'm still trying to find a place to live in. I found a couple of possibilities but I have to wait a little for them. After the hotel I'm moving to a hostel near the University where I can (hopefully) stay until one of the two places accepts me and the other tenat moves out. Then there's school stuff which has been a bit tiring. ~_~
