As little as I care either way, most people complain about 3 nowadays.  I guess its up to what people want.  All I hear are complaints on 3 from everyone, but its not really a serious thing for most people.

SSBM - Hell yes.  No way we can get through that many people without dedicating a large enough section to it.

leashy - cmon now!  its not about being good but having fun.  Don't get intimidated, just enter and just give it your best!  Plus there's always casuals... And I'm sure theres plenty of willing teammates.

I know I've posted in two other topics about this, but I want to make sure it is noticed.

I think Soul Calibur 3 is a good game, and you're going to be surprised by the number of complaints you're going to get if you cancel the SC3 tournament in favor of SC2. They're two completely different games, and for many of the characters the difference between the two is like night and day. SC2 Talim and SC3 Talim, for instance, have less in common than SC2 Mitsurugi compared with SC2 Yoshimitsu. Players who know SC3 aren't going to be able to switch to SC2 very easily.

Request away!
Nothings finalized... yet.

I thought I made a point to complain about whatever.

Also - I just threw it back to being SC3.  Sounds fine by me. lol.

Thanks for reconsidering it. Although, really, if I'm wrong and everybody clamors for SC2, then that would be fine too. I'm sorry for griping; I think I was a little annoying about it. ^^;

Once you progress out of qualifiers it becomes 1on1.
If we have only 16 entrants, certainly, but if it gets anywhere above 64 (which I think the number of players we originally had signed up were above the room occupancy) it makes things a lot harder to do.
After we cut through a larger portion of players, then we can worry about 1v1

If we had enough broadband adapters (and copies of the game), could the Mario Kart tournament be extended to 8-, 12-, or even 16-player simultaneous play?

I think it'd be a lot of fun. The only downside would be that LAN games randomly select characters, and I'd hate to end up stuck with Wario and Warluigi or something. :( However, I've heard that it usually works pretty well, so it'd be worth trying, I think. And just think... SIXTEEN players at a time! Now THAT would be a fast-paced tournament. :)

Also, we are going to have a Wii Sports tournament! Hooray for hand-eye coordination!

It will consist of one round each of Tennis, Baseball, and Bowling. Starting positions will be determined randomly. There will be good prizes for this one!

Radien - MKDD is 16 player... 8 teams of 2 players each.

guspacho - nsmb mp is gimmicky.  PQ is good I hear.  Pokemon is a little too predetermined, I'd say.  Maybe.
We still havent finalized any scheduling stuff, so as soon as that is complete, we can actually get better timeslots for random tournaments.

Greetings!

I saw in an earlier post that it was just going to be a Smash Brothers Party instead of a Tournament?  Has this idea been scratched and tournament is still planned?

What day of the convention will this event be held?  About what time?  How many do you estimate on coming for SSBM tournament?  How many tvs, gamecubes, wiis, copies of the game, controllers can you dedicate to the tournament?  Will you be tracking players based on their Kumoricon badge numbers?  Will the rules be posted or handed out to all the competitors as to eliminate confusion and cut down on repeated questions?  Is there any kind of prize for 1st place?

Okay, according to communication in another thread, I'm supposed to drum up support for Mario Kart LAN play. Caps GO~

EVERYBODY!!! BRING YOUR GAMECUBE BROADBAND ADAPTERS!!!
EVEN IF YOU DON'T BRING ANYTHING ELSE, DON'T FORGET THAT BBA! THEY ARE HARD TO COME BY AND WE ARE SHORT!!

Also bring copies of Mario Kart: Double Dash and spare Gamecube controllers if you have them!
Spare Gamecubes are also handy in case we actually have enough of the above for a 4-Gamecube LAN. :)

Apologies for the caps; we staffers have been wanting to get a Double Dash Party going since Kumori Con year one and I'd like people to notice!

Ha, hey Judeko.  The Smash Brothers Party you are talking about is something I started back in Kumoricon 2005 (at least I think I was the one who started it, all I know is I continued with it).  It was originally a Crew Tournament held the night before the con, for some of the smashers to get together and have some fun.  But, last year organization crapped out on my part cus I didn't expect extras, so I wanted to  do a Super Smash Brothers Melee Party instead for this year.   Just soda, pizza, and smash.  No tournament rules or anything.  Friendlies as we fellow smashers call 'em. XD

But, I got a little bogged down with other things, and cannot take part in the organization of this SSBM Party.  I'm hoping some of the others pick it up though.

Hey, just got back from the mini con and I thought I'd point something out.

Some of us asked where the Gamecubes were, and the staffers said "oh, just use a Wii. They play Gamecube games." True, Wiis play Gamecube games pretty well, they support GC controllers, and I've heard they accept GC memory cards. However, there are two small problems with this:

1. I'm pretty sure Wiis don't support broadband adapters. Hence, a Mario Kart: Double Dash LAN will require Gamecubes. Right now I'm just trying to ensure that we have a two-Gamecube (8-player) Mario Kart LAN, but since "16-player" (8 team of two) is already on the schedule, I thought you should know.

2. Gamecube games are still more popular than Wii games, and since many GC games are multiplayer, the games will not be switched out as often. That means that most of the Wiis are likely going to be playing Gamecube games at any given time, making it hard for people curious about the Wii to get a chance to try them out.

I've already secured two Gamecubes and one broadband adapter so far for the Mario Kart tournament, but those are only important for Mario Kart. For the rest of the con, if you only plan on using Wiis and no GCs, I recommend making sure you have at LEAST four of them. Super Smash Brothers players alone are likely to occupy two of the Wiis/GCs at once, if you let them. ;) (Just think what it'll be like when SSB Brawl comes out...)

Raiden -

We are aware that we will be using the regular gamecubes for Mario Kart at the con. Minicon gaming was put in place merely to give people an extra bit of stuff to do at minicon - in actuality we have a much larger amount of televisions, consoles, etc. that will be available for the con weekend. We have secured 3 gamecubes for the con already and the only thing we are waiting on is broadband adapters, so if you intend to bring items to donate for the weekend please note so in the Donation/Equipment check thread. Thank you!

The con owns two GameCubes and 5 standard GC controllers, by my recollection. So to do the Double Dash tournament will require borrowing everything else. Good luck!

You have more systems and televisions than were at the mini-con? That's impressive! :)

Everything else at the mini-con was spot-on as far as gaming was concerned. I'm glad to see it going so well.

Okay, I will drop by the equipment thread and mention my BBA, since I haven't done so already.

Just an update:

I found a friend who has a broadband adapter.  He says he'd be willing to lend it to me for the con, even though he doesn't go to Kumori Con.  (Ha, get this: he got it for 10 bucks in a bargain bin. Irony loves us.)

I forgot to ask to borrow his copy of Mario Kart. But if he acquiesces, we will be guaranteed at LEAST an 8-player setup.  Say, has anybody SEEN a Mario Kart LAN before? Does it use memory card data at all?... if so, Leashy has a card with everything but the Parade Kart unlocked. But I doubt it will be needed, given what I know about LAN mode.

We're still in need of more BBAs and Mario Kart discs if we want more than 8 players! Bring 'em, people! :)

these setting are good but what if you can't find a partner . . .. .

so will there be singles . ???

Then there should be two more banned characters and they are . .

Kyuubi Naruto and Cursed sasuke . . . . . in which then can take about half of the life of a reg. character. .

another rule i recommend and seriously . . . there should be no blue screen cancel . . if you know what that is . .

Okay, sorry for not replying...
These were the rules taken from multiple other tourneys, as well as Otakon and larger fighting game tournaments that still feature Naruto.

There is no singles due to time constraints.  Those 2 characters dont need to be banned because the other characters can do that much damage anyhow.  A good player of the other characters can compete, so I do not see a need to ban anything.  Just dont do the fireball freeze bug, as glitches / cheats that cause the game to mess up are universally banned for all the tournaments we're running.

No singles, try to find a good partner.  And I cannot find any information on this "blue screen cancel", as no other sources cite it as such.  And I hope you don't mean the cancelling, which is built into the game, because thats the only thing I ever see thats blue during matches...

I don't think you own the game or even played it . . . . . . and the blue screen you able to do endless combos . . . . . and beside that blue screen cancel was banned from last years kumori-con . . . . and that cursed sasuke/ kyuubi naruto are stronger then most of the other characters and were also banned form last year and sakura-con

I don't own the game. I have played it, and last year the complaints about "blue screen cancelling" sounded absurd and not necessary.  It sounded like you did not know how to play the game, personally.
Naruto 4 is like, hella old anyway.  Theres already a new version out for Wii, don't you guys have that yet?  As well as a 4th Naruto for PS2.  Do you naruto fans want to play a newer version for singles?  Its still possible at this point...
