DS vs PSP

I currently have a Nintendo DS and enjoy it a lot.  But I was wondering if getting a PSP would be worth it.  So I was curious which of the two do you have and what do you like about them?  What made you decide to get one vs the other?  And if you have both is it worth having both?

The PsP is a tough case... Its nice because instead of only being a gaming machine, it's also a portable multimedia player as well. You can slap pictures, movies, and music on that bad boy. You can also buy UMD movies for the psp as well, but thats kinda sucky since they still cost as much as a dvd in most cases.

The games on the psp, however, are subpar. There are several good ones, don't get me wrong. Loco Roco, Lumines, Mercury, smart bomb are all good examples of great games on the psp. But sony is too busy trying to take successful games on the ps2 and just turn them into crappy rip offs for the psp. Nearly all of them aren't worth it. Even because theyre portable, unless you really use your handhelds in a situation where you cant plug in a ps2, a lot of the time, it probably isnt worth it.

The DS, however, have tons of original games. You already have one, so you know. Id say take a good look at the games on the psp and see if theyre are actually a good number of ones you want before deciding. Most of the people i know who's purchased one has been fairly dissapointed. Also, if you already have an mp3 player, the psp becomes even more pointless.

But if you've got 170$ and more for a decent memory card, and can justify spending it? Well, go ahead!

DS, all the way. I first considered getting a PSP but the interesting games I've found for it are few and far between. You will simply get a lot more fun out of your DS. DS probably has far better battery life, too.

Although, if you like modding, the PSP is much more moddable. That's just an extra expense to me, though. So I'd say if you JUST want to play video games portably, then your answer is DS. If you are a techie and like to mess around with functionality and stuff, PSP might be more fun, but not because of any gaming enjoyment.

You can't mod any of the new PSPs. If you have 3.11 firmware or newer, you can't downgrade.

PSP is only good for emulation and PSone games. Oh, and watching anime. ^_^;

DS

I waited a long time before I actually bought a DS so I had time to observe the DS vs PSP battle.  Personally, yeah, the PSP has some better graphics next to the DS but as far as games went none of the PSP games looked interesting.  And then the modding.  I'm not into modding at all so it seemed like a freature I wouldn't get around to.  Lastly Nintendo always seemed to have a better reputation for handhelds.

I know very little about the PSP, as the DS is my first handheld ever (thanks to a very generous friend) and I'm still mostly using it for GBA games (and also a little Phoenix Wright). However, I still love my DS muchly, and I find the following comic too amusing and appropriate to this conversation to resist showing it to you.

I have a DS, and love it sooooo much.  My brother has a PSP, but since he got one of the fancy iPods, doesn't really use it, since they can do a lot that the PSP can (maybe not as good, but it's smaller ? )

COOKING MAMA IS LOVE............  It's so much better on the DS than the Wii.

Well I have a DS and my brother has a PSP. I think if you're going for the the gaming, get a DS. If you want a multimedia gadget, go for the PSP.

FYI, at Best Buy they sell external hard drives for DS now; you can listen to music and watch movies and the like. I'm thinking about the 4 GB one but it's $125-ish and it's not my top priority right now lol I don't see it online, though.

Sig by me~~~

i am kinda dissapointed with the limited selection of solid psp titles, yet they have some really sweet games and the psp is obviously capable of better graphics and such. i'm such a silent hill geek that when the new silent hill game comes out for psp i may just have to break down and buy one unless they port it to the ps2, wich they're talking about.
