Program and pocket book plans
« on: May 19, 2007, 03:20:20 am »
The mascot, program book, and pocket book contests have launched--but that's not the only way you can help.

We're also looking for design suggestions and artwork for decoration throughout the books.

What would you like to see in the program guide? In the pocket guide?

Last year, the program book contained:
  • Welcome letter
  • Staff list
  • Convention policies
  • Guests of honor
  • Panel and event descriptions
  • Mascot entry collage
  • Cover entry collage
  • Local clubs
  • Sponsored pages and ad swaps

(Along with the obvious and standard extras--cover art, table of contents, and Kumoricon artwork and logos.)

Last year, the pocket guide contained:
  • Map
  • Selected policy highlights
  • Quick-reference schedule for major rooms and events
  • List of ticketed events
  • Quick guest of honor list
  • Description of last-minute panels
  • Exhibitor list
  • Full panel and event schedule
  • Full video schedule
  • Con tips and anime glossary for new fans
  • Key to the mascot and cover collages in the main book (collages in outline form with credits)
  • Local food and store reference
  • Sponsored pages

(Along with cover art and table of contents.)

The pocket guide for 2006 is available for viewing online.

We're not just looking for suggestions in content, but also for improvements in layout and usability.

(And yes, the pocket guide will be larger this year. :))

Let us know your comments!

Especially let us know if you'd like to contribute art, design, or layout elements to either book!

Could the Clark Anime & Japanese Club be in this one?  If so, how, & what would you like us to provide?

"Especially let us know if you'd like to contribute art, design, or layout elements to either book!"

I can't draw my way out of a paper bag, but I would love to assist with design or layout elements to the Progam Book.

Please let me know how I can be of assistance!

Sincerely,

Penny Anderson

Penny, thanks for the offer! I've contacted you by email with further details.

Others are encouraged to join in with any help or suggestions.

For further browsing and for more ideas, I've now posted the 2003, 2005, and 2006 program books. These are all partial; 2003 is missing the back cover, 2005 is missing the front cover and pages 2-3, and 2006 is missing the extra advertisements which our printing and advertising service, Collectica, added. But most of the pages and nearly all of the con content is there.

We'll post new files once complete copies are obtained or scanned, and once we scan a 2004 con book.

Kumoricon 2003 schedule
Kumoricon 2005 program (partial)
Kumoricon 2006 program (partial)
Kumoricon 2006 pocket guide (complete) (already posted, just including in this list for completeness)

As reported on the front page, we've now posted complete versions of all the program guides from 2003 to now. As of my earlier post, 2004 was completely missing, and 2005 and 2006 were missing a few pages each. We also added the 2005 "pocket guide" schedule.

Rather than link them individually from this forum post, please browse to "Gallery" in the left sidebar on the main site, and then choose "Past Kumoricon Publications". Here's a direct link, but you'll miss the other galleries if you just follow it. ;)
