...what will they be?  I'm debating a costume that would involve a skintight, fleshtone bodysuit.  Everything would be thoroughly covered, but it would give a first-glance impression of nudity, easily dispelled by a double-take...is that considered acceptable or not?

Unless I hear otherwise from the hotel, I don't see an issue, especially since you don't look like the Tron guy.  :)

The only issue I would see would depend on context.  If one were wear a flesh tone bodysuit decorated to look like one was actually nude, it might be legal, but it's not within the spirit of a PG-13 gathering.  (I know you weren't planning on adding the decorations, I was just thinking of the most extreme case.)

"Chocolate" is a popular costume.  I know I'd be a lot more comfortable with a cosplayer that selected to wear a flesh colored unitard or sports bra under the suspenders rather than just use a bit of tape and wishful thinking...  Is that the kind if thing you are planning on doing?  (Not the exact costume but the general idea?)

LOL, if you were in Eugene, actual nudity would be legal on that respect... But, then again, usually the people that take advantage of that in Eugene are all old Hippies.  too bad.

On that note... I think I agree with Naboo, it would all depend on context.  If you came in just a flesh bodysuit, while I"m sure you would get a lot of attention, I'm not sure it would constitute a costume.  ;-P But then, knowing congoers and you, it's not going to be any more PG-13 than the Playboy Moogle.

I say go for it... worst case you only wear it for part of a day... :-)

Well, it's just that I've seen lots of girls take a stab at the Sexy no Jutsu, but I've never seen anyone get up the nerve to really go all out.  ^_^  The closest I've ever seen is a "cloud" bikini.

ROFLMAO.  Wow... someone cosplaying as Frog.  wow.

what can I say... wow.

Heck, he might have come.  I'm still convinced that he really doesn't have a set home... I see him riding his bike on complete opposite ends of town and really have no idea where he's going or coming from.

Damn... if I didn't already think of something funnier to cosplay as, I might have though about that... I'd have to get a fake nose ring that looked like a piece of wire.  :-p

just depends on severity.  There were a couple "dark chii's" at sakuracon that could have easily walked over to a BDSM convention and fit in fairly well, and shoot, I think I heard about someone dressing as Voldo... it doesn't get more bondage than that in the mainstream.

btw, Frodo, if that was you, were you wearing a wig?  I could have swore that the girl in the towel had longer hair than you do/did.

No live steal (sharpened metal) can EVER be out of a scabbard.  Period.  If you want to take a picture of you in costume showing your real sward, GET A ROOM!

Anything that can be a weapon must be peace bonded.  It's pretty much just string or something tied around a weapon that stands for your promise that you won't hit anyone with it.

In the cosplay contest, no metal!  But if you want to take the peace bond off something like your "gun blade" while you are on stage, that is OK.

At Sakura they even peace bonded Harry Potter magic wands and Sailor Moon wands.  I don't know if security has decided to go to that standard, but it is a possibility.

hello, ill be cosplaying as vincent  valentine and I was wundering if i got a toy gun to go along w/ the outfit what all the stipulations are to that like who all i would have to talk to about it and what type of 'toys' if any would be allowed before i start possably looking for some thing to buy. though the chances od me getting one for kumoricon are under a 30% margin.

Props need to be checked in with Security to be logged and peace-bound.  It's Security's discression on allowing certain props, but I would assume as long as it can be distiguished from a real gun at 40 yards or so, then there shouldn't be too much of a problem.

o.o Well, um, i'm thinking of bringing a large sort of round crate on wheels to carry around our backpacks, AND just have it as a prop for my costume (I call it, the Sasuke-Mobile! ^^) I'm pretty sure i wouldn't need to, but would it have to be peacebonded? o.O It's pretty big..

Well, since we had an argument with a strange young lady about it, it should be fine to go barefoot since you aren't preparing food and no one else is. However the Marriott may have rules about it.

Hmmm.... I wonder if she'll be showing up. No way of knowing on these boards. She refused to be recognized by her name, she changed it to Scott because she says she wants to be a guy.

[rant]

My grumpiness about peacebonding knows no bounds ever since I had to stand in line at Sakuracon 2004 to have a three-foot-long inflatable mallet peacebonded.

Honestly, to me, that's just ridiculous.  Weren't peacebonds invented as a way for security to tell at a glance whether a potentially-dangerous-looking weapon had been approved for carrying at the con or not?  How could a giant inflatable mallet possibly be construed as potentially dangerous?  For heaven's sake, I beat the tar out of my friend Jon with it as part of our cosplay skit later that day and he said it didn't even hurt!

Yes, I can easily see the sense and convenience of peacebonding swords and fake guns and other "dangerous" prop weaponry, but I remain deeply in contempt of the growing practice of peacebonding practically every prop a cosplayer carries.  Harry Potter wands, dinky little two-dollar plastic swords, cardboard-ended summoner staffs, resin-molded and blunt-ended ninja kunai, giant and ridiculous "bazooka" contraptions that bear no resemblance to actual firearms...

(It also drives me nuts when peacebonds are unreasonably large and garish, like the neon pink ribbons they used at Sakuracon this year.  Those things had to be an inch wide, and the peacebonders often left long dangling strands hanging from the item being peacebonded.  Outside of a bland/bad pose, nothing spoils a photograph like a giant pink ribbon trailing from your character's mighty weapon of choice.)

A friend of mine was passing the peacebonding booth at a con and the staffers there teasingly suggested that he get his large, shiny space-age-looking watch peacebonded.  It was a joke, but it was funny because it was all too true.  Peacebonding is becoming an all-time nuisance, and I think it needs to be dialed waaay back before it starts really discouraging people from even bringing props to conventions.

[/end rant] ^_^*

Oh I remember you at Sakura con! Your skit was one of my fav! ^_^ Personally, I didn't noticed the pink ribbon on your mallet until I ck'ed my old pictures I took of you and your friend after the cosplay contests.  I also ck'ed the rest of my pictures and noticed the same pink ribbons are some very obvious non dangerous items.  Like a umbellra held by a young girl....

its not the cons fault it the laywers :P

Is there any way to get a better idea of what security is and isn't going to allow? I'm at the weapon making stage for my boyfriend, who will be going as Auron, and I don't want to spend all the time constructing it, lugging it out of state and to the con, only have it end up being not allowed...
For the most part I'm worried about size...I'm kind of obsessed when it comes to accuracy, and Auron has a whomping big sword. ^^;;

Well, I've never seen a 'con that wouldn't allow a giant foam Tetsusaiga (that's Inuyasha's sword, for the Takahashi-illiterate), and that sword's about the size of the Space Needle, not counting the furry hilt.  So I would have to guess that size doesn't matter.  ^_~*  I think it's materials that they judge on.

Of course, even if it's made out of bloody Styrofoam, you'll probably still have to peacebond it...  >.<

Understandable, though. They'd be less suspicious of a giant sword that wasn't bloody.

Hehe, the sword's gonna be foamcore with a resin finish if I don't get too lazy midway through production, so it'll only look realistic in the video game sense...that's why I wasn't too worried about the issue of it looking like an actual sword (then again, there's this site that makes real Cloud swords, so I suppose anything is possible...).
I just remember hearing from someone that certain cons were getting really uptight about everything when it comes to props, including size, and I just wanted to double check. This'll be the first con my boyfriend and I have gone to, so we don't want anything going wrong. ^^;;

I will most definitly be doing a Cherry or Luna sometime. Maybe even a Tohya-san...I love the hair! Tell me do a lot of people do the webcomics? I haven't heard much but I am new.

if its such a big deal to the security folks about giant weapons and such, its just a simple matter of telling manga, videogame and anime creators to stop producing characters with large weapons, as well as going back and giving cloud, auron, sango, etc... weapons like slingshots, rubber bands, forks, pink pet erasers, etc...

of course, one could easily shoot a fork at someone using a rubber band, and a slingshot is already a deadly weapon, and erasers, well dont even get me started on erasers - bringers of censorship and the like.... grumble grumble.....

Lol, yeah, I know all about the dangers of Sango's boomerang ^_^;; Especially the one I have now since I remade it after my first boomerang about fell apart after one trip to Sakuracon... The one I have now is effectively a boomerang shaped surfboard and, up until I recently rounded the edges a bit to make it a little more friendly, was actually sharp enough that you would NOT like to run into it in the halls by accident  :P

Wow, California must be far more toned down than the northwest. At Fanime, I saw people with peace bondings, but I think they were just white zip ties. But for things like kunai...I didn't see them. Hell, I didn't even know where to get peace bonding done. *eyes the kunai on her wall* That would look dumb with a big pink ribbon.

Though I do agree with FilkAeris's rant. Forcing people to peacebond things like dollar store swords and Harry Potter wands is dumb.

I do, however, see the necessity to have it. I have a friend dressing as Zoro (from One Peice). She aquired three real katanas for it. She didn't want to use my british Katana. XD (A dollar store sword that's got a british lion on the 'blade").

Edit: Do you think I'll need my obviously fake butcher knives ($1 plastic, halloween props) peace bonded?
