False Alarm! :) PLEASE Help us document Kumoricon 2004!
« on: August 20, 2004, 10:59:02 am »
Edit:

I'm thrilled to report that Obsessed with Anime is going to be at Kumori Con!   I would usually prefer to not make mistakes about things, but in this case, it's great to wrong!

If you still want to get your pictures on line right away and empty your memory cards, I'm still willing to host the pictures for you and burn CDs.

Origional post below:
*********************

Because of scheduling issues, this year we will not have the luxury of having any any of the famous anime photographers that cover many anime conventions.

I know how much everyone likes to see so many pictures of the event right away, but I think as we are such a "fan oriented" convention, we can come with a way to have hundreds of pictures right away!

As a work around for this, I am asking (Begging?) everyone who has a digital camera with them to allow me to upload their pictures to my computer at the convention.  I'll make sure to have set times at the info desk where I will be available for this and there will be a schedule posted.  I'll also make sure the info desk knows what costume I'm wearing at the time and if I'm not busy and have my computer with me, we can upload on the spot.

(Once they are loaded, I will allow you to privately look at them and delete anything that you don't want the public to see, promise!).

I will have smart media, compact flash, secure digital and memory stick capability as well as USB.  As an added service, because you are sharing your pictures, I am willing to them burn your pictures to a CD for you so you can free up your memory for even more pictures!

This way, right after the convention, I will be able to have a webpage with thumbnails of all the pictures available (arranged by photographer) and the full picture will be available by clicking on the thumbnail.

I'm going to borrow my boyfriend's digital camera for the event. It's a Sylus 410 I think, so it takes really nice pictures. :)

Absolutely!  Durring the con too if possible (Like if you are using a Camera Cell Phone).

Thank you for being willing to share!

Great!  We'd really like to get the photos in one location ASAP though.  Unless you really want those extra cards though, I plan on being very available for uploading pictures to my computer and I will have plenty of CDs and Cases available to copy your images to so you can reuse your cards.  We also plan on making sure each photographer is clearly given credit for his or her pictures.

If you'd like to share some of your pictures and save some of them as "exclusives" for your web site, that's OK to.  We can download the card to the computer, I'll burn your CD, and then you can delete the pictures you want to save for your own site from my computer.

We're willing to bend over backwards to get as many pictures as possible up as SOON as possible.  Depending on internet access, we may even be able to have updates as the convention is going on.

If I don't have a digital camra would it be okay to ues a ragular camra and just give you the film when I'm done with it or make duplicates and mail them after the con?

I wouldn't want to take responsibility for your film.  I'd hate it if I "lost your memories."  If you are already planning on getting double prints, you can send me the doubles, I'll scan them and then send them back.  We can work out the details in the forum once the con is over.

Oooh, I just remembered my pen drives. I could bring those, and you could just save the pics on them. They're easier to carry (I put them on my keychain since I usually use them for homework) than CDs anyways.

Oh, I just remembered my old digital camera too. It's only VGA (640X480) w/2MB memory. I'd be willing to donate that if you want it.

If you are willing to take the risk with it, that is something security could really use.  We would promise to take good care of it, but we'd have to know if you really mean donate or lend.  If it's lend and something happens to it, I'm not sure we could replace it.  If it's donate, we'll kiss your feet...or at least do the "we're not worthy" bow a few times.

My first response was "Okay! A reason to start being a shutterbug at conventions again!!"

...But the problem is that I don't have a digital camera. :? I may take some pictures anyway, though. I'll send you scans after the con.

:) I meant donate, as in give. I really don't need it anymore anyways. I just need to find the cable for it... it uses ps2 of all things. I have a usb/ps2 converter, but oddly enough when I used that it made my machine restart >.< I'm sure it's gotta be around here somewhere, but between my boyfriend and myself we have soo many miscelaneous cables laying around... if you have the proper cable let me know.

Well thank you so much!  If you can't find the cable, I'm sure we can put together some sort of adapter for it.

When you come on in, just make sure to get it to the info desk.  And make sure to try to catch me.  I'd like to meet you!

YAY!!!!

I'm so happy.  He didn't have us listed on his site so it looked like because of the timing, he went with going to Anime Evolution.  I'm so thrilled to be wrong here!

I'm still planning on having plenty of blank CDs and I'll be willing to burn people's photos to CD to free up memory cards.

*nodnod* Last year's Kumoricon DVD was one I was glad to have, and especially at the price (he only charged $5 for Kumoricon 2003 DVDs).  Even if the price goes up, it'll likely still be worth it.

It takes him a while to edit the material.  I think he has seven hours of material to go through.  Once it's available, he puts the information on his web page.  Believe me, someone will post on the board once it's available.  He pretty much only charges postage and the cost of the DVD too.

*twitch*twitch* must relive kumoricon, definately got a sale with me soon as its available.

I would rather wait for a great dvd, than settle for something rushed.
