Hmm, that seems to be a pretty comprehensive list. There were a few that I saw absent thought that I really think should be on there:
Cowboy Bebop definitely(had to do a search to make sure I didn't just miss that one!)
Blood the Last Vampire
Kite (not director's cut, honestly the 5 additional hentai scenes were NOT worth it)
Boogiepop Phantom
Wolf's Rain
Outlaw Star
Not a Yoshitoshi Abe fan? I noticed the list was lacking his films.
Other than that, I can't think of any right now heh.

I have a few qualms about the above printed list, mainly that it contains some american animation, but it's rather complete, though I haven't watched half of them (nor would I want to in some cases ^.^; ).

Jin-Roh (And the entire Oshii set along with it, if you're truly an obsessive fan like me of his works ^.^ )

Ghost in the Shell: SAC/2nd GiG (the first and second season of the GitS series, based loosely-though very well done- on the GitS manga.)

Haibane Renmei (Cute, sweet, short.  Even I liked it, and I hate happy things. ^.^ )

Wonderful Days (the Blood Opera in the end has CG to DIE for, no pun intended. ^.^ )

Gunslinger Girl (It's a slow, introspective series, but very moving if you watch past the second ep.  I fell in love with it during the opening theme song. ^.^ )

Whispers of the Heart (A non Miyazaki work by Studio Ghibli that I pray Disney never ruins.  It's by far Ghibli's best work since Grave of the Fireflies.)

The Little Mermaid (an old classic made by Toho back in the 70's, but a very good rendition on the classic faerie tale.  Better than Disney anyway, though that isn't giving Toho enough credit. ^.^ )

Innocence: Ghost in the Shell 2 (Not officially released in teh US YET -Sept 17th- but a BEAUTIFUL sequel to the original.  Not sure if Dreamworks flopped the subb AGAIN on this one yet, they farked the first subb with Babel Fish >.< )

Serial Experiments Lain (Have YOU seen the Lain?  Should be a requirment before you are allowed to touch a computer! >.< )

Battle Royale (Okay, so it isn't an anime, but it really is a great Japanese movie, though you shouldn't watch it around your parents if they don't like violence.)

And yes, Kite (non directors or directors, it's a matter of hentai opinion.  I prefer edited) should be seen..... but not until you're over the age of 18, and are POSITIVE no one is going to watch over your back.
No, I'm not insane.  I'm just... happy.

Ooh, Battle Royale... agreed :) There's soo many good Japanese films out there (I saw Returner for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I loved it!). And with the Kite preference.. it just seemed to me that some of those scenes were very unecessary and kinda messed up the flow of the movie (remember the one that interrupted her fall from the bathroom?). Also, I think I'd never want to see Kanie naked again! >.< Oh, and it looks like you left out Mezzo Forte. If you like Umetsu's work, I'd reccomend checking that one out too.

I completely forgot to put Saikano (She the Ultimate Weapon) on the list!!! (Saikano is a GREAT anime, short as well, about the end of the world, and one little girls involvement in it.  Beautiful ansgt.  Just beautiful. ^.^ )

I only saw about 8 eps of Saikano and I liked it but I just knew the end was going to be bad for me.(Overly sensitive)
And now I'm a catgirl?

The voice of the one I love
was all I could hear as I lay broken in the darkness
My own voice faltered
My wings no longer had the strength to fly

It would be cool if we can swap Anime from time to time. Since I have no way to access any anime around here....(;>.>
And Animedia can be pretty expensive. ^^;;

Although tons of people love the 'Battle Royale' film.  I think that the book is a billion times better than the movie.  After reading the book I absolutely hated the film.  Compared to the book it is total crap.  I think that any otaku needs to have a copy of that one on their bookshelf... 8)

btw, the book is really easy to find, it is published by VIZ, 600+ pages.  It runs $15.95 new, but I am sure amazon has some used copies.
The trick is not minding.

:) *starts looking at own collection* My DVD collection has grown to 70 volumes now. I just started about 4 new series and need the rest of Kiddy Grade, so by this time next year it should be at about 94+ (I'm gonna need a bigger case for them all!). Hmm... so that's where all of my money goes... lol. I have some fansubs and stuff (including a fat stack of Newtype DVDs), but I really don't consider those a part of my collection. If you just buy your anime one volume at a time it's much easier to find time to watch it. ;)
