! Charity Auction 2007 !
« on: March 10, 2007, 02:02:24 pm »
Welcome welcome welcome! Donations are already rolling in for this year's live Kumoricon live auction, which is usually held right before closing ceremonies. We auction off everything from models, figurines and  mangas to... teabags, tee shirts and a gigantic foam Tessaiga.

What I'm wondering is, what would you like to see more of? I can't promise we will be able to secure donations of anything, but if you would please share your current obsession, I would be happy to get working on securing donations. Do you want to see more DVDs up for grabs? Local tickets? Gift certificates for Japanese restaurants? Video games? If so, which ones, what systems etc!

Note -- Kumoricon is proud to support p:ear, a Portland based non-profit that aides transitional and homeless youth through art, education, and recreation. For additional information, please visit http://www.pearmentor.org

Maybe J-rock/J-pop stuff, like CDs and posters? I would definately bid on something about Gackt or Alice Nine. ^___^

I look for those rare Anime items when I go hunting at ANime convetnions. Things from old animes like Slayers, or just rare stuff or neat one of a kind stuff from newer animes.

LOL that was pretty general.

The auction will take checks and cash for sure.

I am working on credit cards (we took them at last year's auction).

I recommend a fanboy/fangirl slave auction! Highest bidder gets the boy or girl for the evening (nothing impied!) and proceeds for charity. It's worked at other cons...(Granted, a Klingon slave auction generally does well anyway...)

That'd be fun. I've heard of auctions like that at cons before, and it'd be really interesting to get to buy the chance to spend the day with your favorite cosplayer or something...

There's tons of things that can go wrong with the slave auction at a family friendly convention. However if it was organized properly I'm sure that it'd be awesome.

At this point though it's a matter of SCHEDULING more than anything. We gotta wait for some events to drop out before there's room anywhere.

I've been asked to step in on this conversation, in my Chair role.

CHAIR:
I know we mean Slave Auction in the most innocent of senses (like making your little brother do your chores) BUT just to be sure, here's a clarification.

Any implication that we (Kumoricon) would condone sales of persons into slavery, even temporarily, is erronious. Please keep this in mind for the remainder of the discussion.

END CHAIR

On an up note:
There may be an event which allows people to bid on time spent with a cosplayer. This will be along the lines of "Tea with Sephiroth", or "Ramen with Naruto". The winning bidders will then go to a con sanctioned event together, where they can meet the obligation of the bid, while we keep a watchful eye.

As Tom said, I think auctions are a fun way to meet people, if they are pulled off tastefully.

Now, please return the conversation to it's original purpose. What do you want to see at the Charity Auction?
You'll be loved, you'll be loved, like you never have known. When memories of me will seem more like bad dreams. Just a series of blurs, like I never occurred. Someday, you will be loved.

I like it. Very diplomatic.

I'd like to see more handmade items - I saw some great Fruits Basket hats last year that someone had made in the dealer's room, that sort of thing would be cool. Since it's not being sold for anything but charity I think that's cool right?

That being said if I sell my self at the auction again can I have the bidding limited to single nerdy ladies over 30 last year a guy bought me and it was creepy.

Hey y'all --

If anyone is interested in getting more involved w/ the charity auction, it's not to early to volunteer! I am thinking about dolling up the affair and making sure I have people lined up to help before hand - the auction is held the last day of the con (Monday) usually right before Closing Ceremonies. I will need at least two Vanna White's (you don't have to dress like her!) to walk around and show off the merch. that we are auctioning off. I will also need help w/ setup and manning the auction table of treasures throughout the con.

I am hoping to have a preliminary planning meeting at the May meeting, but if people want to volunteer and can't make the meeting, please let me know!

Also, if you have anime items you no longer use, please think of donating them to have them auctioned off for a good cause!
You can contact me at any time, or bring them to the Meeting.

Thanks,
- Antares

Remember that you can also donate manga to our convention library!

As part of the arrangement to get Pocky Club a table in the Exhibitor's Hall our table will be right next to the Kumoricon Swag table (AKA, the Auction Table of Treasures) and Pocky Clubbers will be assisting at both tables throughout the convention.

This means that I'm helping out there as well. When the time comes just let me know any special rules and procedures and I'll make sure all of my Pocky Clubbers are informed and trained before the convention.

Thanks for the offer of PockyClubber Treasure-watchers!

Be sure to check with Eric T. the vendor room coordinator to make sure there are two tables - one for merch / auction stuff ad one for Pocky Club. Last I heard (at the March meeting) was that there would be one table shared by Merch and Pocky and that the Auction T.O.T. would be displayed near registration...

Hello Again --

Thank you to everyone who has approached me at meetings etc. stating that they would like to donate to the Charity Auction! Please bring any and all donations to the next two meetings - Aug. 11 and Aug 25(I will be there at each one - to see what I look like, go here http://pockyclub.elite-otaku.net/staff.html and look under publicity!)! You can also bring them to the Auction Booth in the Vendor Hall at the convention, but the more stuff I can get before hand the better!

Here is a little clip from last year's auction -- and yes, we auction off everything from manga, anime, wall scrolls, posters, artbooks, stuff signed by guests, and action figures to... hot sauce.

I have a basket! And we are getting some sort of donation from Uwajimaya that will no doubt fit. Even if we have to forgo the quilt, I still think it's a great idea and would be really fun to auction off.

I will bring the basket to the minicon and we can see if we can make it work!

Would it be possible if I could be informed onto how much the bundle, that should have, include a white fan signed by all the Random Panel panelists; two Birdy the Mighty DVDs and a volume of Battle Royal auctioned for.

I was at cosplay chess and could not make it to the auction to see how much the Random Panel's donation went for.

I got Pyramid Head and Vash's gun, and I shall treasure them both. ^_^

Wish the auction was held a little earlier, though. If I hadn't gone through most of my money at the vendor's all, I'd have bid more. I'm sorta regretting not going higher on the Crying Freeman manga and the Con mascot yuri drawing. If it's held toward the end again next year, I'll have to set some aside for it.

um, I'd like to see more anime figures, like Mon-sieur bome figures for example. Not the big ones, but just the little ones if it's possible. I might have a few things to donate next year, depending. I'm working on making some props, like wings, and hats and stuff. A

Also, as a n idea, and if the guests of honor are interested, maybe auctioning off some time with them? Or maybe more autographed things or something like that? My friend got the autographed dragon ball z movies this year and he loves them.

It's just an idea. lol.
