more questions about wigs
« on: February 11, 2007, 05:26:02 pm »
I'm going to buy the jagged edge wig in blond from amphigory, for my YURA-sama cosplay.

Here's my question: If I buy my wig so far in advance (this is for upcoming k-con), how should I store it? I still have my pink wig from 2005, but I haven't taken any special measures taking care of it, so it's kind of frizzy and falling apart ... >x<

Any help is appreciated. Thanks! :)

either leave it in the packaging it came in or also buy a foam head (wich you should do for storing after the con anyway) and  just keep it somewhere your not going to mess with it.  like up on a shelf in your closet or something.

I vote for the foam head idea. They're incredibly handy when styling too.

You can also draw creepy eyes on them and scare your friends.

I'm probably going to buy a wig rather than grow my hair out long. Mine will just be a normal... uh... lady wig though. I need one for Haruhi's father.

I believe amphigory has wig heads, don't they? If not then I have no clue where I got mine.. o.o Maybe I got it from Katie Bair when I bought the wig dye..hmm hmm, I don't remember <.<

I keep mine on the foam head under a plastic bag so it doesn't get all dusty and dirty just sitting on my bookshelf.

yeah amphigory and katie both have them

i get mine at a store that lets me buy them at wholesale

i think cosworx has them too.  but i say just buy them from wherever youre buying the wig from, since youll save on shipping.  even though i think that katies MIGHT be the cheapest.

well i remember that i was looking arround and one of the stores was noticably cheaper than the others.  but not enough to make separate shipping worth it.

I got foam heads from thrift stores about $1 to $4 each and I only get the ones in great shape, I hate it when the have eyes drawn on them.  If it is a long wig you may want to make a base from a block of wood and a wide dowl to put in the hole in the bottom of the foam head and raise the head up another foot.  Two years ago around Halloween I found 3 cosmetology school rubber manikin heads with real human hair for $5 each.  They sit on a high shelf creeping people out and I tell every one they are my assistants.   Another alternative for a wig or hat stand is the one-gallon plastic mayonnaise jars ask some one you know who works in a restaurant or industrial kitchen.  And you can go to a place like Pier 1 and get the glass heads, some you could even fill with gold fish
