Did anyone attend the 'random panel of doom' at the con Sunday? If someone was yelling at you to come in, that was the one

It ran for... about 5 hours straight, and I have to say, the best thing in Kumoricon! (though it had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with anime)

When they first called us in, I ran like a freaking dog to get away XD. And I 'stealthily' peeked over into the room to see if my friends (who went in and betrayed me) would come back... but they didn't *-*. So instead I went in there also... but it was fun!

For those who didn't see it/go in, it started with two people going in an empty room and just chatting... then more people came so they started to host a mini-panel themselves. As time went on, they got more and more people in, with lots of fun activities, stories, etc. And it was LMFAO Hilarious X3

Um... but actually, it was kind of inappropriate half of the time, but you'll have to PM me for that stuff (is afraid to post it). But still... there were other things, like Janken- Pope vs. Pirate, and Samurai vs. Cowboy (actually it was an L cosplayer)
We also had a glomp contest with a 6ft long glomp, and who could hold the most fangirls.

It was like a con in a con! great!

To recap and keep from stealing stories from other attendees, I'll just list other things that happened:
- Bigger or better
- Prank calls
- Con chair and vice chair actually liking it

- Sanosuke dragging /theguyofwhoIforgothisname/ kicking and screaming back into the room
- auctioning stuff for crap (like watching Yuri)

Bah, now I want to talk about how Sano was dragging that guy back in the room kicking and screaming

He all started sneaking off and Sanosuke grabbed and tackled him while he grabbed the door trying to hang on XD It was funny, he was dragging his leg and tried to pick him up a few times, too! Unfortunately, when Sano shut the doors, trying to keep him from escaping, the guy grabbed one of the doors again and got his fingers smashed

... But he came back after getting all 'medicated' and we still had fun the rest of the panel!

I was at the Random Panel of Doom, but I only showed up for an hour or two of it. I was trying to find my friends and eventually found them in there.

I was one of the "people wearing ears on their head" people that did the chicken dance, and that was great fun. Even though I couldn't for the life of me remember how to actually DO the chicken dance!

They were talking about how it might be a sanctioned panel next year. That would be kind of cool.

Kenneth H. (Lupin III)

Hey guys. For the record, my cousin and I were the two guys chatting in the empty room. Two other guys came in, found out that the mic system was connected and working. From there, it snowballed into a panel that lasted for FIVE and a HALF HOURS.

Now for the egotistical-buttons stuff;

The two guys (I believe Tim and Will?) started using the mic first, my cousin and I started using the room first. We in essence are the founders of this panel. Honorary panel members include Golden Boy, Sakura (Rissa), "Crazy guy with the Van", "The Fifth Dude" (I apologize, I forgot your name, he was the only other person to last all 5 1/2 hours), Gaara and The Zombie (even though he kinda vanished, he was the technical THIRD panel member).

I am going to do something very stupid now;

Why did I do that? I want ANYONE and EVERYONE who was AT, IN or SAW the panel to e-mail we with what they thought of the panel. You must do it. We might run it again (this time a little more legit) but I need input!

Also, if you were one of the people I mentioned at honorary or founders of the panel, YOU ARE DEMANDED TO E-MAIL ME. I need to get in touch with you all if we do end up doing this last year.

I hope that the the fith honorary panel member was me (aka the pirate) cause I was sitting up there for a very long time. Of course, now that I recal, the reason I went in there in the first place was because I saw the contorsionest (dont know how to spell it) and after that, I was called upon to do an epic battle of rock, paper, sizzors (dont know how its spelled). shortly after the battle, I was invited to sit next to Sakura (Rissa), and I sat there till the end of the panel.

Me, Hazuza, and my friend (who isn't on the forums) spent over 4 hours within the panel. :3 (We were in the second row on the right. I was the 'girl with the owl on her shirt'.)

I was going to write a big post, but I've forgotten much of what I was going to say. I DO remember the pirate vs. pope shirt thing though and I did get a picture of their match at one point or another. :3

I have yet to submit the forms for the panel, I'm waiting on a few things (including e-mail responses from certain people). However, I plan on getting the forms in and hopefully (with approval) it will be put onto the schedule.

In essence, the random panel was (without trying to sound cliche and pretentious) completely random. It was not a planned panel last year, and it just basically started with two guys from Seaside and my cousin and I. It snowballed into a talk show like panel that involved a lot of just completely random events (including PRS between a Mexican Pope and a Pirate, a massively awesome game of Bigger-or-Better and a Distance/Quantity glomp contest). The panel was for con-goers and by con-goers, which is something I hope will be carried on in this year's panel.

Oh, on the subject of "What topics did the panel cover", the Random Panel covered everything except Anime. Well... not exactly true, but anime wasn't a main focus. The topic was more of social interaction with peers. Yeah, something wise like that.

I've e-mailed everyone who expressed interested in returning as a panelist and who was a panelist last time.

The thing about the Random Panel is that everyone is a volunteer, the panel is for con-goers by con-goers. The audience runs it, the panelists are just essentially MCs. My idea for the panel is that no panelist chair is sacred and we're all (even myself) members of the audience at our roots. Think of it as a communist panel without the whole human factor that messes communist up (of course there is a human factor to the panel, but for my comparison it should be ignored in regards to communism).

For those who showed up to join this great panel from the resident Yojimbo.......what thought came into your head when you walk by that door that would so powerful as to convince you to come in?

For those of you that not only come in but stayed for an extended time.......could you have possibly known what you got yourself into?

For those of you who not only didn't just leave but stayed the whole way through.......you couldn't be seriously thinking it would get any better?

But most of all.....for those of you who, after every piece of buttons we threw at you, for every stupid comment, for every "oh god he didn't just say that", and for every I can't believe I'm watching this.......I at least thank you......for with out you guys it would have just been 4 guys who found a mike in a empty room and some stupid guy who walked in to rest talking to each other about how our days went.

That being said you should all go get your heads examined because you can't possibly be thinking strait.

Definitely the latter. Personally, I wake up the morning after the random panel is a puddle of tears.

I kid. That was by far one of the funnest panels I've been involved with. I will state this here and now, the Random Panel will be at Kumoricon 2008 even if it means that I have to bribe Ops and Programming with unmentionable sums of money. It will happen. This panel is something that cannot be explained but must continue.

Does anyone know how much the Random Panel's Bigger or Better bundle went for?

The random panel of doom was very entertaining indeed. I was walking past when I probably heard the words "hey you, chocobo, or chicken" and I walked in. Then preceded to do the chicken dance. I never even knew of the dance before then and I was made to do it about 20 times at the con. I was the white chocobo if you didn't catch that. ^.^'

If you'll check the list, the Random Panel's donation netted $30 for charity. I say that is a pretty noble way to end Bigger-or-Better.

However, this presents a problem, we have to do better next year.

I've actually been toying with the idea of having a seperate event for the creation of a Random Panel constituion. That way, we stay true to our form. Meaning, the constitution can be affected by anyone present at Kumoricon (essentially, anyone and everyone involved with the Random Panel). It could also serve to stretch out the fun of what we do.

However, pre-work would be absolutely necessary (not even our US constitution was written in a day).

I figure that this panel would only need to be about 1 1/2 hours long. We'd get everyones' (meaning, anyone who showed up) input on the document. Then we would have the usual Random Panel after a break.

Minor small thoughts to chew on: shorter panel length (3 hours, but this would be after the first 1 1/2 hours)

I am posting this here to adhere the the greatest Random Panel tradition of all, having a panel that is ran by the people who attend it and not just the people who sit behind the table and talk into a microphone for 5 hours.

Comments and Questions are much appreciated. Also, if you didn't recieve this e-mail (highly likely, I only sent it to two people and asked them to forward it to others) and are a Random panelist, please either post your e-mail here or PM it to me so that I can get you into the e-mail chain. I only have about 5 e-mails for panelists and 2 of them are essentially inactive panelists (who I'd love back, Sano and Father Pirate).

I guess that they say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. I was just awoken by lovely Marisa calling me about Sakuracon, where apparently someone is holding a Random Panel inspired by Kumoricon's one. Hehe, that made me smile.

Man, Sakuracon seems to have major gaps in programming, but I found the event. They even used the full name, which makes me think it is being ran by a first year attendee (as we didn't extensively use the Random Panel of Doom name in '07).

Here's what I got from the con book (had to lurk their forums to get it):

Apparently it went really well. Marisa (Sakura) and Jake (the Jew) helped out from what it hears and made it into a truly Random Panel.

From what Marisa's voice mail told me, they made a killing for Sakuracon's charity event through a game of Bigger or Better (about $400 from what I heard, which is a lot more than we made for charity at Kumoricon last year). Man, they deserve a hug from the Pope and me!

I was somewhat apart of it at K-con '07. But I had to leave early to find my sister. The only reason I was in there in the first place was because I had to straighten Jew's hair, but it didn't really work and I got burned in the process. lol

The final result from Bigger or Better was a Faye Valentine figure and two t-shirts. These were added to the body of the Robo-Pope.

In total, the Random Panel's contributions went for $255 (all going towards charity).
