So, how are YOU getting to the con?
« on: August 25, 2006, 12:27:06 pm »
So how are you going to be getting to the con?

Plane? Train? Automobile~?

How far do you have to travel?

What past con-trip stories do you have to share~?

I myself have lived in Portland for about two years, now.
I've never been to the place where the con is being held, and honestly...

After searching mapquest and the google satelites, holy crap. This is NOT an easy place to get to.

The only thing I can think of doing it taking the lightrail MAX train to the Airport, and then getting a texi from there. Becasue I was NO FRIGGING CLUE how to get to Jantzen Beach. >_____O

But a word of advice--it's probably best to come over the Steel Bridge to get to Jantezen Beach. If only because that's the bridge that the lightrail goes over.

In any case, good luck to everyone trying to find it. o.O

I'm going to take a plane to get to Oregon and then use the bus. Since I've never been there either I just checket the trimet website and it gave me the instructions I needed.

when using the trimet site use the trip planner, NOT the schedules. the trip planne rruns on a gps tracking system. ALWAYS plan 5 minutes ahead of time minimum!

The con actually starts about 7:30 am saturday (registration and all that fun stuff), id be there as early as possible to get in line unless your grabbing pre-reg on friday night.

I've heard it said there's a bus line that goes in the general area of the con.  That's most likely going to be my transportation.

Once I get there, I'm staying there the whole weekend.  I'm from the Beaverton area, so it'll probably take well over an hour and a half to get there by bus.

Me personally, I'm taking the 72 all the way up to MLK & Alberta and grabbing the 6 to Vancouver. Getting off at the first Jantzen Beach stop (first one off the freeway), it's right in front of the Safeway. Takes about an hour and a half.

Getting home the exact opposite way on Tuesday morning when I check out.

For those interested in taking trimet: just use their trip planner! It's right on the front page. Set the day and time you want to arrive, put in your starting address, the arrival address (909 N. Hayden Island Drive) and you're good to go.

Kylite, are you sure they have a shuttle from the airport? I heard there was one from the expo center MAX stop, but hadn't heard about the airport one, though it does make sense.

For those of you driving: All you have to do is take I-5 north (from Portland) to the last exit before you go over the river and hit Washington. I believe the exit is "Marine Drive." It's the only way on or off Hayden Island so it's hard to miss.

Same thing for those of you coming from Washington, just the first exit once you're across the bridge and in Oregon.

The hotel will be on the east side of I-5, right on the river.

I'm getting up at about 6am and if all goes smoothly, leave around 9am. I'm having my mom drive State Alchemist, another friend, and I to the con. We live in Canby, so it'll be about an hour long drive. (Unless traffic takes a turn for the worst.) Then on Sunday State Alchemist's dad is driving us.

We're all getting home the same way we came.

I didn't know we could get Pre-Reg on Friday.
But it makes little sense for me to go on Friday and stuff becasue I'd be wasting more money trying to get there. XD

I'll just got really early on Saturday. D:>>

Yeah - it's exit #308 and I'm pretty sure it's clearly marked as the Jantzen beach exit. Just don't cross the bridge and end up in Washington ><.

Does it really take you an hour and a half from Clackamas? That's a bit of a trip.

On the original topic, I'll be driving in from Southern Portland. It's not more than 30 minutes away from me  :P

Driving down from olympia... driving down to portland in a vehicle thats actually somewhat gas efficient for once o.O (miata)
The first 2 years of sakuracon where a pain... even though it was only in seatac... driving home really late at night/early in the morning falling asleep is not that fun... even with my car (the rx-7) being loud and the music up was still zzzzz

We're carpooling each other from forest grove... that being said, there's eight of us and hopefully there's confirmation on the van... hopefully the toyota, as well -___-;;
We're heading up the night before to pick up our badges and whatnot. Luckily I have an AWESOME friend that's letting us crash at his place for a few days. He even bought a few air mattresses for the occasion... he's my hero~*

I live in Nehalem OR. I'll be getting a car ride there. It'll take about 2 hours to get into portland. Ah...I went last year to kumoricon as Tsukasa from .hack sign. I met my future wife there *a girl who came up to me and was all fan girlish, which never happens to me, because i'm always the one who goes up to other people lol*. But that's the only thing i could call a past con story.

Driving from my home in eastern Washington. Should only take about 8 hours. This will be a super fast road trip compared to our annual AX road trip!

Last Kumoricon I went to was 2004 since I ended up getting really sick in 2005 so I had to cancel our trip. That really sucked. I guess that is why I am totally looking forward to Kumoricon this year!

I will arrive via giant frog.

And for all who saw through that, I will be coming up with my dad in his white Dodge pickup.

You know, Dodge is the PERFECT word to put on the front of a truck coming at you. They put Ram on the side, that means they're after your ass.

It all depends on what time you get into Portland.  For some reason 3:30 seems to be when a rush comes by.  Then there's the 5:00 rush.  At least this is what I've gathered after visiting there so many times.

I'm driving and I'm trying to time it so I can get to Kumoricon early but at the same time avoid the traffic.

Heehee, it'd be cool to meet your roomate!

And yes, I will be staying on Friday night at the hotel with all you guys if I'm not spending the night at Jason's.

Which means mostly likely 99% yes, I'll be there. XD

I've lashed about 6000 Hampsters together. They are fueled by carrots, and they do my bidding. THAT is how I am getting to the 2006 K-Con. ( :

Funny story: At a rest stop, they once ate some-one's poodle.
