Eugene Area Anime/Manga Club???
« on: May 31, 2006, 07:47:04 pm »
I just heard that there are no anime clubs here, now that I started to get serious about anime/manga.

I would like to know if there are interested parties to meeting and discussing such.

I have Sunday and Monday nights off. So far, may change to Fridays, Saturdays in August.

Part of why I would like to do this, is this upcoming Kumoricon will be my first con, of anything, and I would like to get to know some people before I show up in Portland. It may also help me sound more knowledgeable about more subjects than what I have already actually seen/read.

Maybe we could have a baseball game of subs vs. dubs? lol

Once I clean up and reorganize my shop I’m going to start D&D & Board games here again and was thinking of having anime and samurai movie viewings too.   It's a few more weeks/months away as it is a total mess and it's dependant on getting a storage loft and sewing loft built just to make room, as now there are 2-foot wide paths around the place.  Of course if any one knows of heavy timber for cheap or free to haul away it will make it go faster.  Not that any one in town would want to use my sewing loft or some messy creation station space

I'd be game if timing worked with me scheduel which is basically not tuesday - thursday and you have a deal. And hell, if we get enough interest I may be willing (someone kill me now before I do too much) be willing to restart TUNAC in the fall.

Right now for me, Sundays and Mondays are all the choice I have. I work evenings, and those two are my days off.

jaybug39@yahoo.com

895-5095, or call here at work 346-2215 if you would like to get together. I really don't know what we need to have to make this something people would want to go to. I guees we could meet at my house in Creswell, unless someone has better ideas.

So if I clean up my shop and have a Seven Samurai/Princess Monoke night 3 peaple will show up (after we can play with plastic ninja army men)

Ok, how's this, bring DVD(s) that you would like to show, and come to my house this Sunday evening the 11th June 2006?

I'll make dinner, and have some refreshing refreshments. Don't expect Japanese food, I am not good enough in making those presentations. But do let me know if you have dietary requirements.

If nothing else, this should get me motivated to really clean the house. I hope you aren't allergic to cats.

So whats going on with the Anime Clubs or groups in Eugene.

Is the old TUNAC crew still meeting at the Bowling Ally or at there homes.  What is the contact info again for the secret group of the old TUNAC core members, I had it on a napkin but then I had a maple doughnut.

Any one having anime parties comming up, what happned to Fate Ruin's parties

Any want to watch anime and play with costume stuff in a cold wearhouse building full of leather.

If TUNAC does not reform.  Whats the chance the old Gaurd could help some kids on campus with TUNAC:TNG

Lets get something going at least a few times a year.  In a few more weeks i'll have a lot more space  (if my friend ever comes by with a truck to the dump)

And bring your aunts

I guess no one around here wants to do anything. Now the question is, are the ageists? Or what other kind of elitists are they?

Have you got your work site cleaned up yet? do you have something bigger than a 13" B&W TV? Otherwise, what do we do, go bowling? Visit Babysugarbear at work?

I have sort of cleaned up.  I moved some furniture around and built more shelves and I need to finish a bit more then will some how get rid of all those stacks of wood for shelf building.  I was ready to do it all months ago but some of it has been waiting for certain people who say they will be over to help build shelves “next week” and it’s worth he wait because they know what they are doing but never do come over.  Or waiting for weeks for some one who will make a dump run or even take stuff 3 blocks to Goodwill.

Going to bring down a bigger TV and get a cheapo VCR and maybe DVD player

I am currently (shooting myself in the foot) working on trying to get TUNAC restarted. If any of yas are UofO students or nearby when would you like meeting?

Furthermore UofO prof Miyao is running a Japanese Cinema night open to the public Thursdays at 7pm on campus in Lillis 182.

I sent you a PM about some new kids at U of O who were asking if I knew about any anime clubs on campus.

Hmmmmm I used to go to a lot of the free movies at the U of O in the foreign language building and once in CHAPMAN HALL.  Come to think of it that was a reason I did not go to TUNAC a lot it was also on Thursdays at 7.00.  One time at band camp.. oh wait no one time on the bus on the way to the U of O.   I spied  an asian woman (WOMAN a bit older then the college GIRLS) dressed all mousey with glasses with her nose in a book (thats the best way to get my attention) so I sneaked an oogle over the top of my book and was wondering if she wants to go see a free samurai movie and get Ice cream but I figured she had more nerdilichious things to do.  Then I kicked around the campus area for an hour before the free movie.  I walk in the room at 7:00 and not only was the time in the paper wrong and I walked in on a class but the teacher was the one I had Oogled.

Nyco27,

I PMed Vondan a week or so ago about anime clubs on campus. I didn't know you were interested in starting one up. I'm a freshman, so I don't know much about these things but I am always interested in helping out and meeting fellow anime junkies. =)

yes I sent her a note with your PM.  So your job is to gather an army of Anime fans so she can restart the group as an offcial U of O club.  Keep an eye out for any one with an Anme T Shirt or bag (except Helo Kitty that has crossed over into mainstream and pepale who dont know about anime have HK stuff)   And  dont forget Emerald City comics has the largest selection of anime in the city and the manager is the inpseration for the comic guy on the simpsons.

I've talked to Prof. Steven Brown and he's agreed to be our advisor now I just have to get the old chaters and such from Beau or from the UofO - whichever ends up being faster and I'll let you all know from there.

Like the thread title indicates it's the Eugene/Springfield/Gleenwood tri city area.   The theater is called 'Movies 12' the old 12 screen multyplex in Gateway mall that was turned into a bargin theater (All shows $1.50 0r less) after 'Cinema 17' the 17 screen multyplex opened at the other end of the mall (cinemark is so creative with the names)

does Longview still have all those hills of volcanic ashes next to the train station

Ok prices go as follows...

Mondays- Family night... (three or more people go to a movie its 50 cents a person)
Wednesdays- Dollar night... (everybody gets in for a dollar a person)
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday- Regualar $1.50 nights
(but hey its cheap right?)

And don't complain about prices for drinks and popcorn.. I hear enough of that and thats how we make our money... otherwise there will be no discount theater and your tickets would be 20+ dollars per person...think about it that way before complaining.... ty XD

Hmm, that makes sense I guess.  I remember in Japan paying over $10 for one movie ticket and I'm thankful we don't have to pay that.

Anyway...

The Eugene/Springfield/Gleenwood tri city area is about 2 hours or 110 miles south of portland.

After the next Kumoricon meeting In eugene (november or December) there will be cookies and cosplay & prop project brainstorming at Von Dan's

By train? That could be even longer. It should only take about 2 1/2 hours driving. Unless you hit Portland area traffic, which runs from 5am to 10 am and 3 pm 'til whenever. I guess. I don't have to do that. Only when I visit my family up that a way.

I hope Baby Sugar Bear posts tonight, after she finds out when she works. "Cause if she ain't working, I'm gonna go see the new Robin Williams movie.

Dude, I am going to need a little recovery time after the Duck game. It may be the 9ish movie for me. You'll have to phone me, as this is about it for emails and posts etc. No comp at home!

I may try for Over the Hegde.
Have Fun

I don't think Vondan drives. That or his watch is broken. It takes 1:40 to go from Eugene to Portland, or the other way. According to this atlas here at work, it's about 40 miles. Which means it's about the same distance Portland-Salem. And doing about 80, that's 1/2 an hour.  So it should only take you about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get down here.

My mother lives in Hood River, that's a 3 hour tour, a 3 hour tour!

sorry babysugar bear, I couldn't get my g/f to go to the movies. That and I am technically broke already, I ought to wait until after payday, Halloween! Are we there yet.

Good for Vondan!
