Eeee.... well, good luck and just have fun!  *prays for Cherry*

As for the copics, I love them.  They are my favorite medium and my poor excuse for not using the digital medium.  I just can't master it like some of you guys can.  I am envious there.  But as for the copics they are fun, fast and they take some time to get used to.  If you ever need any advise or help let me know.  I can show you a thing or two.

If this helps anyone, Copic Markers will be in the dealer hall again this year, and if you still need help doing specific things I'm sure they'll show you some tricks.

I suggest the "slow and steady" plan.  What you do is buy one or two copics when you feel like it for how ever long you wish.  And figure out which colors you want ahead of time so you don't buy some random color you end up not needing.  That's kinda how I got the copics I have today.

I'm wondering, I have no photoshop skills nor the money/ time to buy copics. If I just use prismacolor pencils will my entry have less of a chance of getting picked? Even if I do a nice job on coloring?

The voting really isn't based on what medium you use...colored pencil, marker, digital, all of them have equal chance it's rather the effort one puts into them that will make the difference...

Though personally I used digital, I find it easier when I have pretty much any color at hand that never runs out... *currently has at least 6 copic's with no ink and no money for refills*

Congrats to the winner, but I must say I am kind of sick of seeing very sexual covers on convention booklets. I mean, tons of lace, stockings and garters? This isn't to take away from the talent of the artist by any means, just my opinion.

The cover that was entered was actually more reserved than the original idea. It wasn't drawn that way for sex appeal. (There is hardly any skin showing, too). Rather, the artist probably had in mind a "cute," girly atmosphere. Feminine prowess. Honestly, what is wrong with tons of lace?

I agree with you.
It always bugs me how if you put something more sexual against something totally not, even if the image is of lower quality, it will win just because of the content.  I've seen it happen in many of art contests, and it makes me sad D=

It should be quality over content, not the other way around.  I was really dissapointed to see the lack of votes on some of the entries, such as pocki aki's, the drawing was really well done!  But i think i was the only one to vote for it!?  If i dare say it without being flamed, i would say it was drawn much better than the one that won the contest.  But alas i guess it could not compare in content, or at least in some people's minds. =\

And  i was not saying that the one that won this contest was totally sexual or anything, but im fairly confident in saying that it is more sexual than some of the other entries were.  I mean she is practically wearing lingere o_O

I thought all of the entries were very high in quality. Certainly, it was hard to pick which one to vote on. But don't attack the winner for being "too sexy."  Several of the other entries had girls that were wearing garters, too.

We arent attacking the winner at all.  I didnt say it was too sexy either, i dont appreciate you putting words into my mouth.  I did say it was more sexual than other entries however.  Also its true and very sad how in alot of cases an image with more sex appeal incorportated into it, regardless of quality, is often viewed as better than others due to its content.  I didnt say this was 100% applicable to this contest, but it does happen quite often.  I wasnt putting down any of the entries at all o_O  Just stating an opinion about how people view artwork.

I didn't put words in your mouth. That's pretty much what you said.

And while I don't think the winner was some sort of artistic god, I don't think that the quality was questionable. It wasn't far and above the other entrants, but it was still good. It shouldn't have been brought into question here. Which, yes, you did.

Again, you are wrong.  The only statement about quality i directed towards this contest was that no one besides me voted for pocki_aki's entry, which i thought was the best.  And by saying "thats pretty much what you said" that means you have assumed that is what i meant, even though i have explaiend to you a total of three times now, that is not what i said.  If you can show me a sentnce where i directly said that the image that won was too sexual for me, i will be surprised.  But you cannot, so why are you still trying to make an argument with me?

Why bother even mentioning Kumoricon, it can be digitally removed non? If anyone asks, it was a popularity contest, and you are from out of town. Nah, that sounds bad.

I always thought a portfolio was a collection of works. And a trophy room was where you put all the neat things you killed, won, married. j/k

Well for the sake of graphic design, I think it would help to have something in  Cherry's portfolio that says "published work," something that tells employers that the work is actually good and accepted by other people.

But Cherry-san is really talented, so I don't think there's anything to worry about. Plus, there's always next year!

Pocket Ninja is right. Although, Cherry, I think you should also do several non-anime pieces, show some diversity. It would be more impressive. And since letter placement is part of graphic design, leave the text on there =)  If they ask, just say you won second place. X)!

O_o no one seems to really be in favor of the winner....I admit, i was a little iffy with the winner myself and wondered about it's effect on the mothers of children who wanted to go...
You know, the mothers who think all anime is hentai... my only fear is that they would see the program cover and not even give the con a chance... You have to admit the winner does have a very provacative nature, and one doesn't have to see anything outright for a picture to be sexually oriented... 8/ and I don't mean to day the cover was innaprotiate... I just mean that I worry about what it might say about the con to people who've never been there before.... I personally think it's deosn't exactly say "fun fun happy convention for all ages"

and Cherry, I'm pretty sure getting second place is something worthy of putting in a portfolio *putting her second place of the macot in her portfolio*
and I really liked yours Cherry!

not sure if I got what i wanted to say out in the right way...O_o;; I don't mean to be misunterstood...

Yeah i know coming second isnt that bad.  Buttttt... still.
Im unsure.  And of coarse my portfolio will have non-anime stuff =P
I have non-anime stuff that i do, mostly just for fun and not serious at all, i just dont post it up because anime is the stuff i dont mind putting extra work into because its my passion and so it always looks waaayyy better.
And even if you say im good, the program im trying to get into only allows a few people in every year and is very competative (or so the director of the program told me).  So i dont think just being "good" is good enough >_<;

@Misuteru - Yeah i hate the fact that to anyone who is new to anime, when you say that they automatically think of girls in lingere and bikinni's, hentai, and seizure enducing robots.
