« on: May 24, 2006, 12:35:27 am »
The Japanese Peace Cranes are beautiful and easy to make once you get going.

We are going to be folding 1000 cranes for peace to be sent over to Japan to put on the the memoral for Sadako Sasaki.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadako_Sasaki

Please join us in making 1000 cranes here are instructions.

http://www.sadako.com/howtofold.html

You can bring your cranes to the Genral meetings and to the con of course.

Happy Folding

I'll definately star working on some cranes to bring to Kumoricon. I've got loads of free time, so it shouldn't be too hard.

I know I should be editing my post, but this is kinda on the same topic [infact it has everything to do with it.], but it's different than the last post.

At school, I'm getting alot of my teachers to help out with making paper cranes and at this very moment that I'm typing this, I have like about...953-952 left...I think I did good for the first day concidering only a small amount of people are helping me out. ^^ I have them in a big bag at home and was planning on working on them tonight...>>;;;

for around 8 years or so, i was one of the coordinators for eugene peaceworks of the commemorations of the bombings of hiroshima and nagasaki, respectively august 6 and august 9......peace cranes were part of our ceremony of candles floating on the river......

it's a beautiful tradition, and i'm delighted kc is part of it.

suggestions:

(a) finding events that are commemorations of these bombings and having a kc presence at them, showing respect for the ongoing impact on japanese environment, health, economy, politics and culture of those bombings;

(b) there historically has been origami paper at the creation station both at KC and SC (in fact, last year 2 of the art contest entries were origami). why not have instructions available at the creation station for the making of these peace cranes and that can be another activity folks can engage in the art room and/or while folks are attending workshops!

Not a half bad thought, especially since I'm planning on emailing the company that makes the paper I bought and seeing if they'll donate some goods for the con.

This weekend, I was house sitting and got bored so I started to make more, but they got wet when one of the dogs jumped into the pool. ;_;

I'll have 250 cranes folded by the end of the week.  I was working on some at home and my husband decided he wanted to help and is now having fun with it.
