A place to rent region-free DVD players?
« on: April 28, 2006, 03:07:45 pm »
Konnichi-wa,
My birthday is coming up and my mom promised me that we could go to Animenia (one of the local Japanese video stores) that day.  And I am so excited!!! :D
I'm planning on renting The Ocean Waves and maybe a few more.  I have heard several places that the DVD has English subtitles on it, so I'd rather get the DVD.
But I don't have a region-free or region 2 DVD player!  Animenia doesn't rent them out to the public, so I am stuck!  Sure, I could watch the movie using a timed fansub script I found, but really, what would you rather do?
So I ask you, is there any place where I can rent a region 2 or region free DVD player?  I am eager to know, and it would be greatly appriciated you post very, very, soon.
Arigatiogozaimasu!

But you probably already knew that.

Good luck is all I can say.

Mostly because you'd have good luck just to find a place to purchase one. Finding a place that rents one is going to take alot of good luck.

I agree, I have been to that store an many others. My gram is japanese so she knows of alot of them. ALL the videos I rent there with her including the anime is just Japanese, NO SUBTITLES. the main reason is because a lot of them are VHS that is copied from a japanese channel. so it comes straight from Japan with no SUBS.
Trust is where it all begins...

Have you tried any of the Multnomah libraries? They loan out more than just books. They can give you tv's, vcrs, and radios even. I don't think you can take them out on a loan, but they do have them onsite at every library and you can just go into thier media department and use them at the library. (If you're watching a movie, they usually make you bring headphones).

They have so much stuff. You should go into your local Multnomah library and ask if they have one. If they don't, I can almost garuntee you that the central library downtown will. That place has everything!

I know it might be out of the way for you to go to a library, but it's the best thing I can think of.

If you have a DVDrom on your computer, there are programs you can buy that will allow you to watch all regions on your computer.  AnyDVD by Slysoft is the program I use, and it works great.
