« on: March 30, 2006, 04:34:21 pm »
Wazzup,
I thought I'd be fun to mkae a guide for all you Oregon anime fans (after all, most of you are Oregonians).  If you have one not on my list, fell free to let me know and I'll add it.

I have been too:
CD/GAME EXCHANGE: Hillsboro, OR.  Small selection, but good if you want a bargain.  Anime Only.
LA VIDEO: Aloha, OR. Basically same description as I gave CD/GAME.  Anime Only.
KINOKUYA/UWAJAMIYA: Beaverton, OR. Kinokuya is a Japanese import book/video store, also have domestic products.  Uwajamiya is a Japanee food store.  POCKY!!! :D
BARNES & NOBLES/BORDERS: Various Locations.  Lots of manga in B&N.  Borders has anime & manga.
POWELLS BOOKS: Various, best is in Portland, OR. LOts of new & used manga, very affordable.
Animedia & Sakura Video:  Canyon Road & Beaverton, OR.  Both Japanese video stores.  I have only been to Animedia.  Both have anime, I think.
Suncoast:  Portland, OR.  Good anime selection, all at MSRP though.  Some are closing down because the company that owned SC went bankrupt.  Possible sales!!!!

I haven't been to:
THINGS FROM ANOTHER WORLD: Beaverton & Portland, OR. Anime and Manga, items can also be bought online.

And there is always the KUMORICON DEALER'S ROOM.  Open during con!

I knw there are is a Japanese video store in Beaverton, but I can't remember its name.

Just Be: Japanese movies, Import anime, and domestic anime rentals.
Just Be info:
107 NW 5TH Ave
Portland, OR 97209-3820
(503) 796-2733

Movie Madness: Video store with serveral anime rentals.
Movie Madness
4320 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97215
Watashi wa iroppoi wo motekuru.

But you probably already knew that.

About a half block from UWAJAMIYA in a little strip mall. you can see the building from the UWAJAMIYA parking lot.  We went in and at once they guided us to the english shelf that was like 3 feet long the rest of the store was in various asian languages.

I posted list in the "get involved/eugene group" thread

And it is indeed quite handy.  Thank you both for the info (and to you, Vondan, for the hotlink as well... that speeds it up).  That being said, I'm gonna lock this one for no reason other than to keep the information together.

Good thing this was unlocked because I need to point out that Sakura Video isn't at that location any more. It's across from the Fred Meyer, by the Beaverton Transit Station.

Good thing you have been there more recently than I!  If we are thinking of the same store.  This one was small and dark and and we got the feeling they got few english speaking customers they way they looked at us and pointed to the small English only section.

I am also glad this was reopened, as I have information for Things From Another World.

I have been there many times, and they sell a good assortment of manga. Very rarely you find actual anime, as its mostly a comic book store. However, they also sell alot of cool anime action figures and statues. Oh, and they sell pretty much every TCG and CCG out there.

The last time I was in there, the only anime they had was on video tape, and it was old stuff released along time ago. I am pretty sure it was just the last of their stock they were selling.

Oh, and their address is 4390 SW Lloyd Ave. in Beaverton.

They also have stores at:

10956 SE Main Street
Milwaukie, OR

4133 NE Sandy Blvd.
Portland, OR

and the one I already mentioned:
4390 SW Lloyd Ave.
Beaverton, OR

They also have two stores in California, but I didn't find that relevant for this topic, and a website located at:

http://www.tfaw.com

An interesting note on their website is that they list anime DVDs. It was awhile ago the last time I was at the Beaverton store, so maybe they carry them now.

Dustin reminds me of another store in Portland although again I have not been up there on an anime binge in over a year.

Movie Maniacs had a big anime and japanease section we rented all 24 episodes of Neon Genesis and the original seven samurai and watched them all in one day.  They also have movie props on display.

I cant find them in the on-line yellow pages with that name maybe they renamed or the friends I was visiting called it wrong

Movie Madness
4320 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97215

And a store in down town Portland had a lot of anime and Japanese import toys and figures and some of the high end 1/6 scale figures (think $70 GI Joes) it was all pretty spendy but they are in walking distance of the Chinese gardens. (and I cant walk far)

The more stores you guys can list, the easier it'll make my job (thanks Dustin and Vondan) to secure prizes and such.

I know the one you're talking about, it's right next to Target.  I'll check and see if it's still there next time I'm out there to do shopping and such.  :-)

What about Suncoast? I know its not everywhere but I have found it in quite a few malls that I have gone to. They have Japanese snacks, drinks, anime, manga, magazines(its where I got my Newtype that I found out about Kumoricon from!), and anime paraphernalia!  :D

There's also a very trendy store in downtown portland called Just Be. If you get a membership there you can rent from their collection of japanese movies, import anime, and american release anime.  I think it starts at $2 for one day, and gets cheaper(per day) if you rent for longer. Lots of cute anime/weird japanese merchandise too!

Just Be info:
107 NW 5TH Ave
Portland, OR 97209-3820
(503) 796-2733
Kumoricon! Wahoo!

(order of cosplay might change)
Saturday- Rikku (FFX)
Sunday- Tifa (FF:AC)
Monday- Mana-sama (maybe)
