2006 March 12th General Meeting
« on: February 25, 2006, 01:38:26 pm »
This is rough info. Please contribute what you like to the thread, any agenda items, or questions, and return here, as I will be updating as info is confirmed.

March Meeting
March 12, 2006
at University of Oregon Campus, Eugene (no room number as of yet.)

Only seven more general meetings until the convention!

We will be updating all things publicity at this meeting, and viewing the draft schedule of events for programming.

Afterward
There are several events going on on campus on this date, for those who will make the trip.
1. Costume Completion Event
2. How to Make Your Own AMVs
3. LAN party! A U of O event, outside of the con (insert link here)

This meeting is just before Sakura, and we will have a COSTUME COMPLETION EVENT for those who need to get advice and put the finishing touches on their costumes. Andrea Letournou of the Costumers Guild will be there to teach us some techniques and lend a hand. I'll also be showing people what I've learned about how to make your own patterns from scratch.

Also, Guy has offered to give pointers on HOW TO MAKE A SUCCESSFUL AMV.

U of O already has a LAN party scheduled for this weekend, and it promises to be BIG. 200 people plus!
You'll be loved, you'll be loved, like you never have known. When memories of me will seem more like bad dreams. Just a series of blurs, like I never occurred. Someday, you will be loved.

Anyone can come, though the primary function is for con business to get dealt with.  But they are "open to the public" for all who are interested.

this meeting for me is going to largely be about:
(a) a few innovations i have in mind for the KC fan creation station
(b) an idea i have thus far broached only to meg and one other friend, depending on what the directors thought of that idea
(c) trying to find volunteers for the creation station at sakuracon
(d) if i haven't figured it out by then, having folks less technophobic than me help me figure out how to install stuff into, set up, and run my mac ibook and printer/scanner thingie

looking forward to it, love y'all.

p.s. what are the beginning and end times of this meeting?

All right: I have one or two garments left that I want to sew before Sakura Con, so I'll be coming with my costuming materials and a pattern.

Question: would you like me to bring my own sewing machine? (I wouldn't be surprised if the demand for them were higher than the supply.)

And here I have 5 in various states of Might work

Edit:

Of course you all know I meant if you could get it going you can barrow it for a few weeks

Of the 6 (there were 5 but the are breeding), 3 look to be all there but I might not have bobbins and foot pedals for all.  And I don’t know the threading pattern to them.    One other looks like it  is missing the stitching foot but I have a box of feet some ware. the last two have been used for parts

Check with Big Guy if you want, he came by my shop and made sure I was a real person and not a robot and we talked about all of you for 30 minutes.

If no place is named, I am going to go to the EMU on campus and look around the river rooms (you know, the meeting rooms that are named after rivers). That's where meetings on campus are most often held. You can meet up with me at the EMU fishbowl at that time if you like.

If a place is named before Sunday, please disregard this message.

Okay...I know I won't be able to make it to the March K-Con meeting, but I would like to attend at least one in the future.

I live in Seattle...so that's my main problem. Transportation. If you know anyone who'll be going from Seattle, please PM me. Thanks!

I come to the meetings from Seattle regularly, so I can give people rides. However, I might not go to the March meeting due to both the distance and in particular because I am busy for Sakura-con-related stuff. (I am still figuring out whether I will be going.) But I go to most of the meetings. (PM/AIM/email me if interested.)

So has there been any information on the actual meeting time/place? I live here in town so it's not a big deal to me, but a lot of people have to come from out-of-town to this one.

Update: Meg (EcchiSpice, con chair) is looking into this to confirm a room. She is equally frustrated at the uncertainty. She will be posting here ASAP.

In the meantime, if by any chance there is still uncertainty on Sunday, I'll be waiting in the Fishbowl right before the meeting, by the sofas.

For those that don't know the emu is on University street which you can get to from east 18th avenue, or take Franklin to agate and take agate to 18th and then to Univeristy.

 or here is a map

So what time are we meeting in the fish bowl?   At worse we can snack and talk bad about any one who did not give us the correct time/place.  Unless they have PM the answer to every one but me

You will be able to reconize me i'll be dressed as a person in cloths, if need be I could wear the helmet and goggles from my avatar.  Every one should dress like there avatar

And since no answer on cookies or if the Con Chair still wants a giant hammer I wont bring either.  I do not want to bring what could be classified as a weapon across town and to campus with out a guaranty that the Con Chair will use it to call the meeting into order and we can all say Ham and Cheese

Ha then we should be in the fish bowl at 12:30 or 12:45 unless a magic room number apears in this thread then we show up there if the door are open.   the Con Staff should post  plushy peaple wearing sandwich boards with all the relevent info all over campus.

Yes, to confirm, check the updated post on the main page of the site. All our plans fell through so we will be meeting in the EMU art gallery on the second floor of the fishbowl. Bring your own chair!

Contrary to what the main page might have said before I fix it, THE MEETING STARTS AT 12 NOON and Executives need to be there at 10 AM for the executive meeting prior to the general meeting.

Check the main page for more information, including directions, (as good as Google and our non-Eugeneness can provide.)

Yes I called around yester day and I never got the change in times!!! I was late due to traffic and not knowing where I was.  I finally got there and I found out that the time changed on me.

I got there late (When the listed time was 1.00 I arranged an 11:00 clock meeting about work that ran till noon)

We should have had nametags with our forum handles.   I only talked to the same 3 people I already vaguely knew from before I was posting on the forum and two people from out of town who introduced them selves for possible business.

And as far as I could tell Kylite wins the sort of looks like his Avatar as he wore gloves and had his hair in a tail

i'm kinda one of those introduce-myself types, but i agree it would have been helpful to have nametags with our "forum handles"

i was wondering about k-teams. if there is a eugene one i think i'd enjoy being on it

obviously i have a ton of my own work to do with the fan creation station, but if i got to be part of team that went around putting up posters of selling ads and thereby got to also hit them up for schwag, i'd get to have more input in selecting prizes for my fanart and fanfic etc. contest winners....

I'm one of those I don’t know every one, and in a group I can't hear a thing any ways people.  Unless I’m story telling then I’m in charge and only have to hear me, (I just realized during one of my story performances about flesh eating hogs the tour guide was translating on the spot for the exchange kids and there teacher was writing it all down in Japanese, I wonder if they stole it to make a Manga)

Dang I have no idea if Negima was there I was going to finely tell her a rendition of the riddle of the toe in the fridge

Doh (Squared)

Looking back at the old thread it was makichan asking about the toe, now what did Negima ask me that I put in my mental file card to explain later some day in person.  I hate getting old.  So never mind Negima, you did not hear anything about a toe and if any one ask you dont know ware it went

obviously i have a ton of my own work to do with the fan creation station, but if i got to be part of team that went around putting up posters of selling ads and thereby got to also hit them up for schwag, i'd get to have more input in selecting prizes for my fanart and fanfic etc. contest winners....

That would be great to get any sort of help... me and Kri will be going over details with Zach as well for the K-teams very soon and well will have details for all who can spare alittel time.

Well, I don't know if there were many people who didn't make the meeting who WOULD have been interested in the costuming workshop, but just in case there are, there's some news:

The workshop didn't happen this time because Andrea L. and Guy had somehow gotten information that said that the workshop would be next Sunday. So, the workshop didn't happen... outside of me getting help from Meg and Michelle cutting out a pattern on the floor. :) (Meg brought a sewing machine, but I didn't get that far before that group of Portlanders had to go home)

Anyway, the workshop WILL happen next week, I have been told. I will try to keep on top of this to make sure info gets confirmed and posted.

So hey, if you're still finishing a Sakura Con costume, PLEASE come on out!! Unless you're confident your cosplay is 100% perfect, there's always something to learn at a workshop, even if it's only about how to easily wear it. ;)

i'm kinda one of those introduce-myself types, but i agree it would have been helpful to have nametags with our "forum handles"

Or maybe (and forgive me if this is sacriligious or something) we should change our forum handles to at least somewhat resemble our names!

since I have nick that is the name of a choir, does that mean I have to wear 4 angel wings on my back?

So the workshop is going to happen this weekend instead?  if I can get a ride, I may come, but I dun think I could make it as I have to wrap my finals x_x along with my costume.

Next meeting, if people can't make it because of travel and whatnot, perhaps we can set up a yahoo chat room, or irc.  Something of that nature would at least give those people who cannot attend the meeting a way to still keep in touch with what's going on a little better than just waiting until a day or so afterwards, especially since quite a few people had laptops with them.

@Raiden
I'm currently working out the details for the costume completion now. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on where you live), I will not be able to make it down to Eugene, so the event will have to take place in Portland.

@ everyone
I should have minutes up tonight, for those who didn't make it to the meeting.

The primary reason that would not work is because communication between the meetings would not be sufficient, for several reasons:

(1)Say there's a meeting in Portland and a meeting in Eugene.  Portland meeting makes a major decision.  Eugene meeting is working on other things entirely, and ends up with little to no say in resulting decision.  End result: divided staff, and quite possibly people quitting outright.

(2)Certain staff needs to be in the same place as certain staff, i.e. all Ops staff needs to be together to meet properly.  If half the staff is at the Portland meeting and half is at the Eugene meeting, even with an interim communications link (i.e., internet, phone call, etc.), one hand won't know what the other is doing.

(3)Even if you had, say, programming in Eugene and Ops in Portland, if a decision by Ops affects Prog, Prog may not get wind of it until they've planned right through said decision, which could undo a lot of work by either side.

Short version, communication is lacking too severely to make the "multiple sites at once" thing work for the monthly meetings.  We discussed the possibility of having the majority of them in Salem, I think, and that really is a pretty decent medium for many people.  When you get right down to it, though, it doesn't matter where the meeting is.  There will always upon always be people complaining that they can't get there.  It's a fact of life, and not really anyone's fault.  Just something we have to work around.

My idea is more like if they have a meeting in portland those in Eugene who cant leave town will get together and work on decisions about Pizza and what anime to watch

That being the case, then this portion of the thread should likely be relegated to the General or Plan Your Own Adventure, rather than continued in the official meeting threads.

I live in the Eugene area. :( As you know.

But it's not a big deal, actually. I don't need any more sewing help at the moment. The advice you and Michelle gave me on Sunday helped a lot -- the garment I was working on is already done. I hope to show it to you sometime at Sakura Con next weekend. ;)
