Help For A Friend

A close friend of mine is being deployed in March and I'm looking for ideas for what to get them (animewise, basics) to help their stay a little better?

Okay... well, first thing's first... :)

What kind of an anime fan is your friend?  Is s/he into manga, anime, gaming, J-pop, etc.?  And within that, what kinds of genres do you know your friend to have enjoyed in the past?

What is your budget? At the most, how much money can you spend on your friend?

I know, but hello, just any care package won't do. Its Sami.  She's very much a manga fan and likes shounen stories, rather than shoujo.

Buy some cheap manga at random and then tape in your own voice bubbles with jokes about people you know. It's like a giant personalized greeting card!
