What can I do with?

Bamboo?

My Apartment manager just chopped down a whole forest of bamboo behind one of the other buildings.  I got some pieces for myself;   2 about 10 feet long and 2 inches thick to make Karate staffs, one 10 feet long and 4 inches round to make cups and a short section 6 inches round to make an Anti Gorn Cannon. I think I'll go get more, what anime/cosplay out fit needs a bamboo staff.

Some one took most of the rest to make a fence, the bastard doesn’t he know costumes and toy weapons are more important.  I got anohter 10 stalks 10 or more feet long going from 2/3 inches wide at the bottom to thin as a pencil at top.    I’m going to use one that is an even 2 inches round 5 foot section and attached the Ninja sword I never finished after cutting it out of  T-1 Steel and make a Nagatana lets see how they peace bond that

hrrm, well i know...ahh Kilik from soul caliber has along stick thing that is somethetimes a bamboo thing.  the other thing is it would be kinda cool to replace pvc piping with bamboo if youre going for a more natural look with weapons/staves/wands/whatever.  but if you dont really have the space for storage then it may not be worth keeping it arround unless you have an immediate use for a heuge pile of bammboo.

but i mean...i know i would horde it somewhere, i can bring myself to throw that kinda stuff away.

Yeah it would be cool I want one with a sword in the handle and the tip is a sharp spike and it can also discharge ninja sleep gas.  And when I'm crashed on a desert planet I can open it to use as a shelter or hide from alien asasians.

I think one of the ladies in Soul Calaber 3 had a bamboo Parasol.

I'm a total Horde master, I got 200 bedsheets because they were a bargin.  I will use them some day to make capes but my friend moved and took her sewing machine.   I got a box of dead Hard drives just so I could tear them apart and get the meatel platters inside and have not used those in a year.  I got a barrel of mens belts and have used about 10 of them.  So I emptired out the barrel they gave me to recycle my paper and plastic and I put all the bamboo and the closet rods and broom sticks in it for when I use them some day.

Will a con in the US allow a foam weapon with a hard core I know thats how Boffer weapons are made in Europe but groups like the SCA in the US dont allow a Foam weapon with a fiberglass rod inside.

@Vondan
yeah setsuka has a parasol, but that seems more effort than it would be worth, since you can buy them for like 15 bucks on hawthorne...if you live in portland.

but yeah kilik and sung-mi-na both have long stick polearmy type weapons.

ALSO, i have a foam hammar thats on a piece of pvc pipe, i think that would be a hard core thing (lol hard core) and it got by security, but some guy i was talking to said that it wouldent be able to be used in those boffa larping situations since it didnt have duct tape on it, something about being able to scratch people up pritty bad with painted foam.  ok its kinda rough, but if youre going out beating eachother with boffas you gotta expect to get a little hurt.

I'll probebly stick to easy things like staffs, pole arm handles or maybe the fake arrow shaffs glued into the quiver

Neatest foam hammer I ever saw was on a MTV interview/special  with mel Gibson for Braveheart.  During the on set interview (mel was in costume) they had war hammers in there hands.  Over the credits when it was over they were hitting each other with the hammers and leaving bloody red spots.  the hammer heads were like sponges full of fake movie blood and made a big mess with each hit

but it wouldn't be editble...so it would be LYING POCKY....and that wouldn't be good.

but it would be  cute advertisement prop for that pocky club, though i never actually saw them at the con.

when i was a kid there was no pocky sticks just pixi sticks, I can make the worlds bigest Pixy stick

edit

Now I have an Idea to make a samurai style banner to hang on one of the  the Bamboo poles,  I know what my Mon would be but then I'm sposed to have a  Kanji under it but I dont know what maybe the word leather

edit

The type of banner is called a Sashimono (looks like the Japanease are just copying the Gungians from SW:TPM and using bamboo poles and cloth in place of Peku feathers)  and the Kanji is Kawa

http://japanese.about.com/blkod836.htm

edit

Played in Photoshop and added an idea for my Mon and Sashimono as my avatar

edit

I just had a horable evil idea.  Next time a "Dancer" comes into my shop to get her boots repaired I should hire her to work the con in something like Xena's Samurai outfit wearing my Sashimono, I could call her an ashigirl

I made a Sashimono, my first effort at flag making in 30 years

http://vondan.com/dan/temp/sassy.jpg

Experimenting with things in my shop I found that dry erase markers on cloth do not smear after it dries but does bleed when you use it,  especially when you start or stop a line.  Except the year old black marker did not bled as much as the new blue one.

Spray leather dye does not bleed when used with a template but it will smear after it dries.

I’m going to experiment with cutting out a template for the circle that is the outer edge of the mon then have changeable templates to fit inside that for the design inside the circle.

edit:

Is the cosplay thread the one for props and accessories?  I’m more into those than whole costumes right now
