Umika passed away today...
« on: February 14, 2016, 08:58:00 am »
A fine young AMV editor and freelance artist, "Umika Sayoji" of Klimovsk, south of Moscow, Russia passed away in her sleep at age 22.
Some may remember she created the AMV "Steel Fenders" which won a Kumoricon "Master of Technical Effects" prize in 2013.
Her works are sill accessible on YouTube, AnimeMusicVideos.org, and DeviantArt

Here is a .gif showing some of the original work she put into altering scenes and characters to make "Steel Fenders:"

That's very sad  :'(.   That's way to young to pass away...

No promises but we will try to incorporate some sort of tribute to her during the 2016 AMV Contest.

What about an "Umika Memorial Trophy", given to the best AMV Creator, as judged by the audience?

Otaku_24,

I was thinking more about showing her Winning AMV and have an ending with a memorial tribute for/to her (she certainly deserves some recognition), but it is in the works and I will add your suggestion to the list of possibilities.

There is already a Best in Show Award that needs to be voted on so that might be too much of a conflict and I don't want to focus too much on a very sad event during the Contest which is expected to be an upbeat and fun event.

Thank-You, for the suggestion!

We have something in place for memorializing this very missed and talented young lady.

She will not be forgotten.
