Cosplay Meet Etiqutte 2015 Panel

    COSPLAY MEET ETIQUTTE, To do's & Not to do's:

    This is a meet about how Cosplay meets should and shouldn't be run/ran, what a good and what a bad meet looks like. This panel will focus in how a proper meet should go, what to do if a drama arises, what you can do to entertain your guests/attendees, rules, and what could make you a favorable host. Yes, this sounds very opinionated, BUT, this panel will be ran by many different Cosplay Meet Hosts who all agreed with what is stated in the panel. This panel will go through many topics and questions asked by the audience, skits will show you common occurrences at meets and how the can ruin or improve a meets progress. MORE INFORMATION WILL BE UPDATED AS DISCUSSIONS BETWEN HOSTS OCCURE.

    WHAT WILL BE SPOKEN ABOUT AND MINI-EVENTS:
    • Panel Hosts will introduce themselves
    • Panel Preparations
    • How a meet should be ran (time length, stats, rules, etc.)
    • Type of meet up
    • Fandom Biased
    • Advertising your meet
    • Q&A about above ^
    • Contents of a Meet to please your attendees and keep them entertained
    • What does a bad Meet look like?
    • What does a good Meet look like?
    • Cleaning up after yourselves
    • Disturbing and Respecting non-cosplayer around you
    • Locations and Weather conditions
    • Food/Drinks at a meet- good, bad, what to do
    • Q&A about above ^
    • INTERMISSION PT.1)- Mini Game/Contest about Anime, Manga, comics and cosplay in general
    • How to keep your group together and safe
    • What does a good and bad host look like and do?
    • How to be a proper host
    • What to do when non-cosplayer disrespect YOU- Hosts take charge
    • Being a host- Tutorial
    • Pictures of one another
    • Photo shoots
    • Common Cosplay Courtesy to you and everyone around you
    • Cosplay respect
    • Mishandled Situations- How to avoid them
    • Q&A about above ^
    • INTERMISSION PT. 2)- Panel attendees speak up- Opinion time, concur or disagree
    • Proper games at a meet and their rules
    • Entertainment- Contests, dancing, glomp circles
    • Splitting up and grouping together
    • Other groups, same location
    • Conflicting meet ups and gentle solutions
    • Meet up Cancelation, Rescheduling, and location change
    • Notifying your guests on any and all new/updated information
    • Common misconceptions
    • Trash talking other cosplayers and/or other cosplay meets/groups
    • "Lost and Found"
    • How to end a meet

    • Ending mini game and talk with the hosts

    ~After applying, your application will be looked over and decided on, will be interview a little more about their experiences. Spots are limited.


    Attendee participation is key to this meet. Pictures of actual meets will be shown, names will not be given away, most faces will be blurred if requested. Negativity or harmful comments will not be tolerated, if you do so, you will be asked to leave the panel or settle down. This panel is a safe place. Cosplay bias is not accepted. If there's extra time, we will start a new topic about COSPLAY COURTESY or PLAY ANOTHER GAME. All comments during a lecture should be kept to the Q&A, if your question can not wait, please respectfully wait till a sentence or point has ended and raise your hand.[/list]

    This sounds like a great idea!

    But, I worry that there's a lot of material to cover in just one panel slot.

    Will your group consider doing a Part 1 slot and Part 2 slot for all the material listed above?

    Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it looks like you have two ideas going here. One idea is for how to organize and run a panel, and the second idea is for how to organize meets/gatherings/group photoshoots. That sounds like two different panel ideas honestly.

    This actually makes sense.
    Use one panel to talk about how to run gatherings and so on, then the other on how to act to others (as in anti-bullying, how to be respectful of cosplayers and their costumes/props/wigs) and so on. Then at the how to act around others type panel, you'd be able to give out the anti-bully ribbons.

    Actually, thank you. Sorry if it sounded confusing you have discovered a typo i missed. Were not duscussing panels at all. The 3rd thing on the list should say 'meet'. The first two things are for the people going to be in the panel, for us to get ready the discussion. Sorry for the confusion.

    *PRONOUN- (what you prefer) female
    *AGE- 27
    *HOW MANY MEETS HAVE YOU HOSTED PREVIOUSLY- too many to count 15+ working on a bunch more this year
    *WHAT LOCATIONS WHERE THESE MEETS AT?- Typically at parks but I have done dances, at the mall, going to do a big dinner here soon, white elephants, ect
    *WHERE YOUR MEETS SUCESFUL, YOU SAY?- Some were great, some could have been ran better, but all in all people seemed to have a lot of fun
    *MEMORABLE EVENT AT ONE OF YOUR MEETS- I meet my best friend at one of the cosplay picnics I did in 2008
    *YOUR THOUGHTS ON HOW A MEET SHOULD BE RAN- I don't have much on how it should actually be ran, but more on thorough planning such as, will the location allow for large groups, is there cover? Will security get mad? Bathrooms near by? Trash? Easy access to food?
    *YOUR THOUGHTS ON HOW A PROPER HOST SHOULD ACT- Again, a host needs to do most of the word before hand, and if the situation comes up help deal with questions from outsiders, talk with security (I have had to do that several times at the mall, I was able to calm an angry security guard down and find out where we could go to hang out where we were out of the way)
    *HOW MANY MEETS HAVE YOU BEEN TO?- too many to count
    *HOW MANY, DO YOU SAY, WERE NOT SO GOOD?- a handful or so.
    *RATE YOURSELF ON WHAT HOW WELL YOU HOST, 1-5- I would say I used to be a 4 but recently moved to a 3. With my job at Newcon running the Countdown events (meetups outside of con) I am working my way back up to a 4
    *Additional Info You Would Like to add- I am currently working with Newcon to host meet ups outside of the con to get the hype up. This is my second year hosting meetups with funding and it has made a difference

    IT would have been if the other cosplayers knew about it.
    *MEMORABLE EVENT AT ONE OF YOUR MEETS-
    being in character on an almost perfect level.
    *YOUR THOUGHTS ON HOW A MEET SHOULD BE RAN-
    If its not well noted in the con booklet or online , find a way to notify other cosplayers from the series about it. Along with making sure the amount of people that show up will have enough space to pose or other photo-shoot situations. Take the needs of the people attending to heart and be flexible. If the meet is with a group of close friends, let people who you do not know feel like a friend/comfortable so they do not feel left out.

    A proper host should everyone, including people who you do not know feel welcome. Along with being open-minded to ideas.
