Cosplay, costume and reenactment leather accessories
« on: October 16, 2005, 09:46:11 pm »
I have a leather repair shop and do some costume and reenactment creations.  I have made leather accessories for the Eugene Opera, University of Oregon and Actors Cabaret.    Although I’m a member of the Eugene Anime Society for 4 years (2nd and 4th Friday of the month Emerald City Comics) so far I have not had any request for work in the cosplay genre, mostly it’s been Swashbuckling Pirates, Romans and Generic LARP.

I could probably make any leather costume items with adequate reference material.  This month I’m making the armor for Achilles from the movie troy and 4 gladiators.

Sword belts

Bandoleers

Sheaths

Armor

Custom boot modification

I’m tired of having only Romans come to my shop, send me some Sailor Scouts and Power Princesses

Most of my creations have been one off pieces ware the customer brought in the body or Item to be fitted.

Knife/axe sheaths/ammo pouches have been $20-$25 (extra if made from elephant) I have been making these mostly for hunters

Generic battle harness $ 30 (leather straps crossing the chest with rings for attaching stuff)

Battle harness with Spalders (shoulder pads)  $ 80

Medieval Ring belt $15

Fancy Rapier belt and frog $40

Leather pouches (like dice bags) $5 to $10

Leather Roman Armor $200

Roman war sandals $50

Boot Modifications $30 to $100; I can take a boot a customer supplies and add leather to make it knee to thigh high with swashbuckling looking flaps.  I have done this for The Beast, A Pirate Queen and Santa

Every thing has been a little different and so far the Achilles outfit coming up is the only thing ware the customer wanted it to look like a certain person

I have forgot to take pictures for my best stuff and one time the battery died in my camera at an Easter Pageant ware I helped outfit 6 guys as Romans.  I need to collect what photos I have and put them together

me as han at a birthday party ware I ended up being the only adult in costume.  The gun belt I made that morning  and it is an experiment

yes Bigguy

I think I can make a fair replica of that outfit, I see how I can make the Cape, Tunic, Grieves, Belt, Tassets, Brabcers out of leather.  It could be dyed gray and or then painted silver.  The Shoulder armor and Bevor I'd have to think about how to give the illusion of that thickness and sculpting, maybe use a layer of Urethane Foam

Here is a question, can you make a leather collar...I am going as hige from Wolfs Rain and i need a collar to actually look like him...
It should be about 18 inches in diameter, and about an inch in heigth, about 1/8 of an inch in thickness....with, if possible, a blank metal plate that is about 2 inches in length and an inch in heigth...how much would that cost??

yeah I just looked around for art and cosplay images of Hige. I can do that, and if you can find a good close up of the plate I can make it as more then just a square. it looks like it pointed at each end and has what one fan said was an H and a Review said a "Special symbol" probebly for about 20 - 25

I’d be able to work out the Jammie bottoms, Tabor, hood, shin guards and arm guards.  I'd need to find the large pyramid studs and skulls.  I have not done any Plastic molding yet.  The should pieces I could make with leather and if this was for next year’s Kon season I might be able to work the trim out of metal.  A friends friend was in a car wreck and cant make swords or amour any more and I may be getting some tools and lessons.  Of course for any thing that needs to be fitted you’d need to come to my shop.  I don’t know if Muffin town is near Eugene.

I can work on items like a Collar, belts or cape through the mail as fitting is not as inportant as for a full suit.  My full contact info is at my domain that should be in my sig now.  Keep in touch or remind me about it later in the year if you wont need or want it until summer.   Some time early in the summer I hope to be in Montana on  a movie set

Due to a LOT of gunfire in High School I'm deaf in one ear and did not understand all that.  Let me know more Precisely what you want.   I can make all the accessories for Rikku's outfit out of leather/metal.  The Shirt, Pants, and boots would have to be modified from items you could find at a junk store that fit

The shirt could be modified from a brown sweater, the shorts from USMC Herringbone twill Barracks Fatigues and the boots from rubber mud boots or MilSpec artic boots
