Re: 2014 AMV Contest Category Discussion - HERE WE GO AGAIN!
« Reply #1 on: December 17, 2013, 09:42:28 pm »

Back to the classic 'Action' category this year; this category is for strong dramatic plot or visuals, engaging the audience with impact, suspense, and gripping scenes throughout. There is an additional prize for best Effects (see below,) but the Effects prize winner can come from any category.

This category may use any anime and any style of AMV, with the only criterion being that the music contain no discernible lyrics, and no scat or nonsense syllables either. Instrumental music may use the human voice as a wordless instrument.

A sugar-blast category. These AMVs are light, cheerful, or fast-paced. Fun dance music or positive, silly, bouncy, fun music, and also high-color content.

[4] RETRO Each submission must satisfy BOTH of these conditions below:
       i.  All music and sources must be at least five (5) years old, and
ii. The sum, in years, of the latest (youngest) video source and audio source must equal AT LEAST 30.

Tell all your jokes here! Or just be weird - but FUNNY!

Includes fake commercials, TV spots, and movie and game trailers. May use actual advertising audio or a fictitious creation in the style of a commercial, trailer, or fake episode opening credits. Serious and intriguing dual-openers will also show in this category. Comedy trailers may get redirected to the COMEDY category.

JUDGES' CHOICE: Chosen by the judges' panel. The winner is revealed immediately following the contest.
MASTER of TECHNICAL EFFECTS: Chosen by the judges' panel AND the contest coordinator. In the event
that the selected AMV is NOT selected for a category, it will be shown as an Exhibition entry and
                 awarded its prize.
BEST OF SHOW chosen by audience vote.

(The judges panel may select additional an entry to receive a Special Mention or another honor of their creation. The AMV Contest Coordinator may also select an entry for Special Mention. Therefore, a total of between NINE and TWELVE prizes may be awarded in 2014.) Contestants do not have to be Kumoricon convention members and need not be present at the convention to win.

(NOTE: Kumoricon does NOT have a DRAMA / ROMANCE / EMO category.)

This will be a stand-alone category of up to SIX selected entries. This is a fan-made video category of any style or theme, INCLUDING ORIGINAL ANIMATION. One special prize will be awarded. This event may be screened at another location or time, and be separated from the AMV contest, Or it may run within the AMV Contest time-block. I'll be working with Programming Dept. once we see how this category seems to be responding. If we get a HUGE influx of GOOD works, the judges may break the playlist into TWO or more categories and we will award even more prizes. It is also likely that I will convene a separate group of judges for these entries who are more expert in this specific type of fan-created work.

Well - things have changed and new opportunities have cropped up, including a course of study (for my current job) which may consume many nights and weekends. So I really won't have time to put in the days and days that it takes me to make the contest opener. (I am actually quite slow and ponderous in doing those...)

Anyways, in order to focus on other activities I am having to let Kumoricon go.
I will be forwarding any Kumoricon AMV contacts I receive in my personal e-mails to Kumoricon.
Also I will be mostly abandoning the PM system on this forum, so please contact me by direct e-mail.

It's been a great 10 year run with the AMV contest, and I hope you all have enjoyed the events.

Chances are some of you may run in to me at other cons in and around the Pac-NW, so please feel free to say hello.

Hey there Kumoricon! Do we have anyone who is organizing/running the 2014 AMV Contest now? The staff section says the position is filled so I was wondering if there was any news on changes to the structure of the contest.
