The three brilliant men who defeated this German encryption machine ("Enigma") studied mathematics and cryptography at this university in Poland. The greatest secret kept from the Nazis throughout WW2 was that the Poles had already broken their encryption machine in 1932 - SEVEN YEARS before Gemany opened war against Poland. After Poland fell, the code-breakers fled to the UK, where the Brits pretty much took credit for their previous work. More information here:

Now we mostly COde and DECode by using for CODECs for video compression of AMVs!

Herzlich Willkommen! Bavaria (Bayern) - home of BMW, the Oktoberfest, Weißwurst, Dampfnudeln, (yummy cuisine actually similar to some Czech traditions) ... and of course delicious beers and wine in specially shaped bottles called Bocksbeutel ...



and this wonderful heraldic field called "bendy barry," or "oblique fusils argent and azure," or also "lozengy"


(OK, sometimes I just call them 'hangover checkers')

BUT we have an AMV from here!

That's Mt. Ararat in the background. Yeah, Noah's Ark and all that.

Also probably one of the birthplaces of using tin to extract copper from malachite - that's right THE BRONZE AGE could have started HERE.
