For those who post YouTube videos
« on: January 08, 2013, 05:35:49 pm »
I've been wondering, for those here who post their own videos on YouTube, is it common to get generic comments, such as people posting just to say they were in the clip or that they can't understand what someone's saying?
The reason I ask is because I'm one of many users there who doesn't get that many views and comments and if someone does post something, it's usually something like that. It's gotten to a point where I wonder if some people deliberately say those things to spam and do so that way, so it won't look like it.
Over the past few years, I have to have had a least a few dozen comments from people just saying that they can't understand what someone said. I'm not saying that most of them had the intention of spamming, but when you get that many and they're usually for videos that have little to no comments, it's a little suspicious.
(Which is why most of my videos require approval for comment)

There are several popular clips, but most of them have been ignored.
Because of the number of generic comments I've received, most of my videos require approval unless they already have enough decent ones.

I havent looked at your channel yet (I'm watching TV with the fam so it would be distracting but I'll pull it up later and add /revise me post if need be) but if you want to get views more comments is always better. The only time  comment is bad is if it's attacking you or something/someone you care about and even those can sometimes generate more positive comments if people defend you. The reason for this is because youtube uses both number of views and number of comments when determining where your video shows up in a search.

If don't really care about attracting views then by all means regulate your comments however you please.

I've never really had this problem. I only have a few short Kumoricon clips, a variation of my Chobits AMV, and some video footage of metal concerts I attended.

The Kumoricon videos are much more likely to receive the "Hey, I was in this!" type of comment -- but they usually mention who they are. So I know they actually watched the video.
