questions about live cover band at Kumoricon
« on: September 15, 2005, 05:47:49 pm »
I know a japanese cover band named A Key Kyo they play at the Japanese festival in Beaverton every year and I was asked to check into if there was a way they could play at the next Kumoricon.  They could play anime theme music or take suggestions via these forums  (provided they have time to get copies of the music and practice before the con)

Who would be the contact for this, would it be on a volenteer basis or would there be pay involved etc.  Should I go to the General Meeting and bring up the idea there?  Questions questions questions...

If anyone reading this knows the whos and hows please let me know.

If you can make it check them out this weekend at Uwajimaya in Beaverton Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th.

In case anyone was wondering no I'm not the bands manager but I am dating the girl that plays Base and sings in some of the songs.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Mike J

ps. feel free to pm me if you dont want to post for any reason.

Our next general meeting is our elections where next year's directors are elected, and they would be the ones making the call on that.  It'll most likely be a Programming Director decision, so show up to the Oct. 9th meeting and we'll get things organized from there.

I went to Anime Central this year, and I saw the Pillows play there. So they are willing to come to America, and are willing to go to conventions to play. But how much you'd have to pay them...I have no idea. The audience for each of their concerts was larger than the total atendees at Kumoricon. I'm sure a band like the Pillows would draw a larger crowd to Kumoricon. A Jpop cover band would be cool...a band Friday, and a dance Saturday..sounds like a good idea to me!

Baby steps, y'all.
The one thing that can kill a Convention is over-extending themselves.

The cost for plane tickets an hotel rooms alone for a band like the pillows is huge.
I'm not even getting into equipment costs.

And THEN you have the performance fee.

Not saying it's impossible, but it takes time for conventions to get established before they have the war chest for something like that.

(And I should prolly not reply to these things this late at night...)

And not to forget the inevitable room damage bill :D

I'm not involved with it but I believe there is a group that has attended a few of the general meetings that we are hoping to bring to K-con '06. I'm not sure who they are but as I said, I'm not involved in that.
