If we decide to go into the mall for any reason, I think there had been more complaints about the noise than just regular cosplayers. So if we keep our conversations at a low volume while inside I don't think they'll mind. I know with a group that's always hard to do, but still achievable.

I agree with sticking to the original meet spot. Got Starbucks to take cover in if it gets cold or rainy, and or Pioneer Place Mall to migrate to. I think cosplay groups get a warmer, more tolerant reception from the Pioneer mall denizens also.

Meanwhile the meet was good and epic, even among the other apparent meets that were at the mall. I was the heroic Portland Pirate using my knowledge of the concrete grid to help cosplayers find their groups, run with them at light speed to catch their MAXes, and ride with them most of the way home. Though of course, the Americas present were the real heroes. I hope my dice were a good, though late contribution to the gift exchange.
