Forum Meet-up Panel [Approved]
« on: September 22, 2011, 11:20:10 am »
I was sad to see no forum meet-up panel this year. =(

Is there someone out there planning one for next year? Cause I would definitely go to it. ^_^

Well, I'm going to be signing up for staff again so I suppose that I could put in paperwork for a forum panel again.
It's not like those things are very hard.

Really surprise none of you stepped up to take my place in 2011.

LOL. That was my first K-Con. My only memory from it was standing in line for at least 3 hours.
And yes, please put in the paperwork Tom, I'm sure it would be much appreciated (☞゚ヮ゚)☞

I think that this year I'm going to try and have the forum meet up panel in the morning on Monday. Like a cool recap before Cosplay Chess.

I'm glad to see that you're probably going to be doing it this year, Tom.  I was thinking about filling out the paperwork myself if it looked like you weren't going to do it again.

Meet and Greet at the Con for Forum Addicts?
« Reply #7 on: October 20, 2011, 11:16:47 pm »
It would be awesome to have a meet and greet for people in the forums to meet at the con. Not exactly a panel, but we can have a scheduled time and room where everyone gets a name tag or something. We can hang around, maybe have an activity or something?

Has this been done already?

Just a thought.

The more people that show interest in a panel, the more likely it is that Programming will greenlight it, so I've merged the unofficial thread into the semi-official thread. I'm sneaky like that. ;)

More seriously, I think there's a really good chance that it'll be okayed... and Tom, let me know if there's any way I can help?

I just bought a copy of that game recently.

I have a similar game called Bubbletalk . . dang near exact same as Apples to Apples, except you have a single caption and everyone has a set of 7 caption cards to pick from and give to the judge.

Both of these games + sick, twisted minds = hilarity.

I'm not trying to be a downer, but I 'd prefer not to pay board games at the con. I personally love Apples to Apples, Scattergories, etc., but I can do that at home. I would prefer to do something different at a meet-up, especially since I'll only be seeing everyone in one place for half an hour or so. I'd rather do something more unique, if you catch my drift.

I think playing werewolves would be fun.

I also think maybe we can do some kind of voting contest or something:

Most random.

Most likely to glomp.

Most likely to break out in a dance.

Biggest troll.

Best Avatar, whatever.

Maybe we can vote ahead of time and announce winners at the meet-up. They can get a certificate or whatever (staff has enough to worry about, so I'm not suggesting actual prizes or anything). Or vote there.

I would also be down to just hang out and take pictures.

Meh, just a suggestion. Even if there were board games at a meet-up, I wouldn't sit out.

Hmm. I actually TRIED sitting down to play apples to apples at con this year. It did not go well, not even on day 0. Everyone was too busy rushing off to panels or volunteering or photoshoots, or to change for photoshoots, or to go eat. In the end we just gave up and left the game box in the trunk for the rest of the con.  Ah, well. Maybe after hours when there's nothing going on but we're all too wired to sleep....(if there is such a time anymore).

I won't withdraw my offer to bring it to the panel if people still think they'd want to play it, though.

That's a possibility, but it'd probably be more likely that it'd be better to play it after the meet-up.  There's usually lots of stuff going on as it is.

It would be nice to have something to do though. Just sitting around and chatting could be somewhat awkward and boring... plus we could do that here.

Werewolf game would be fun, but how would we pull it off? I'm kind of thinking maybe if we do make it a panel if it is big enough maybe do it like the slightly anime dating game and put on a show. Then when writing people's names down hopefully the crowd would drown out the noise of the pen/pencil and we could have screens to block each other from seeing.

Well, in the past, there's been various games that were played during the panel, too.  It wasn't just a talking panel (though it pretty much was in '10).  There'd be things to do, too.

If it is well organized, then hopefully there will be games plus some chat time.

The werewolf game would be fun to play at this panel. Since it is quite popular on the forums.....

I was just thinking, if we dont want to spend the whole time playing board games, why dont we do a few improvination games. Like, maybe the movie star game and the question conversation game (which is being played now in the off topic thread, come play with us!)  and then we can do a few weird games like guess my favorite shape or something. What do you guys think? Also, i think we should appoint a few panel leaders. Maybe five or six. And we can each have a job to do and bring to the panel.

I had another idea for the panel! We could do ask the admin. But with the panel leaders instead of admins. The auidence can ask us any question and we answer them. Since the whole point of  the panel is to get to know the person behind the avatar,  we should focus on games that help introduce everyone to eachother on a different level than we already know eachother on the forums.

Just having one person to lead it is stressful and boring though. Then they have to do everything, and everyone depends on them. Having like five or six people, or three in this case lol, would help spread around the work.

That can be true, but Tom usually does well.  Plus, he usually asked at least one other person to help him out, often times it was Mustash.

From what ive seen, they havent been on the forums for a while. I think itd be better to choose people who are on the forums all the time. That way we all know each other and arent just listening to tom and his friend. Thats why i like the idea of panel leaders that the people here decide on.

I think anyone can go. I know some people showed up at 2010 who didn't have forum accounts...yet......

I say that TomtheFanboy should lead since he did create it and he made it happen in 2010.
As for helpers, maybe people who are well experienced on the forums. Moderators, etc.

Anyone can attend the panel.  The main element (at least that I recall) that matter in terms of forum membership include introducing yourself and meeting people face to face.  I've seen many attendees there that weren't on the forums, some stating that they planned on it soon.
