Most annoying thing at an anime convention
« on: September 12, 2011, 05:55:23 pm »
What would you consider the biggest nuisance at an anime convention?
No offense to anyone who's responsible for any of these things.
Regarding the second choice: Over the past four years, I've been attending voice actor panels on a regular basis and at more than half of them, someone asked how to get into voice acting and the panelist/panelists had to spend 20 minutes of the panel giving all of these details on how to do it. I've never found anything wrong with people wanting to voice act and I like how VAs have inspired many people to get interested, but when you hear someone ask it at almost every panel and have to keep hearing the same kind of answer again and again, at least a third of the audience is going to have heard that question a million times and the majority of people who attend these panels want to hear as many questions get asked as they can. And it allows fewer people to ask their own questions because of the amount of time it takes for the panelist to explain all the details.
I've met one voice actor (Michael McConnohie) who makes fliers he puts on each chair of the panel room giving his own insight on getting into it and I'm starting to recommend the same thing to other VAs that I've met.

Regarding the third choice: I will admit that I think it's repetitive seeing so many people cosplaying as characters from Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, Naruto, Final Fantasy 7 and Ouran, but as common as it is, I have no complaints with people doing it because in my opinion, it's best for cosplayers to do characters they like and are most comfortable dressing as because that way, they're being themselves more than they would if they dressed as someone from a lesser known anime. Although if you're gonna cosplay, that should be your purpose, not because the character is popular (no offense to those who do that). However, it is nice whenever people dress as different characters.

In general, the game.  It's annoying, especially since I hear it so much OUTSIDE of con.

This year, the chair.  by far, nothing was more annoying than the chair craze.  It was funny during the Cosplay Skit contest, but got old very quickly after that.
My cosplay plans for 2022 (thus far): Vanir from Konosuba
My son's plans this year (thus far): Penguin Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh

I voted for the third. I get tired of seeing the same characters, but not necessarily the same anime. There are worlds' worth of characters to be cosplayed, I just think it is a waste to see so many people doing the exact same character. Like, personally, I try my best to cosplay underrepresented characters. Not just for that reason, but it actually makes me feel better about my cosplays, because I know I won't be lumped in with anyone else. I'll stand out and be my own standard. It does just get boring, though, seeing 10 or 15 of the same character, even if they're done well. I lose interest and respect after a couple, which I'll admit is unfair to the cosplayers who choose those characters, but if you are willingly cosplaying a character that will be done by multiple others, you should know that your chances of standing out or even being remembered are slim to none.

THE CHAIR LOST THE GAME!!!!!!

am i doin' it rite? D:

Seriously, the most "annoying" thing at an anime convention?  The people that forget the word "play" in cosplay.  It ain't cosserious or coslifeordeath.  It's cosplay.  Have fun, enjoy the costumes other people do, and don't offer unsolicited advice or insult the costumes other people are wearing.

I am fond of a quotation from Dan Rather.  He says, "Take your work seriously, but not yourself."  Sage advice, indeed!

^Thank you for saying that! It seemed I got insulted a lot this year since I was cosplaying from a well-known video game and not being "unique". And of course, I also got insulted since I wasn't the best looking person cosplaying. That was one thing I felt was so annoying was people taking cosplaying to seriously. Not only did that made me look like an idiot, it made me feel worse during the convention. Luckily, I had my boyfriend and friends to cheer me up. ^_^

I know right? It seems like people are starting to get stuck-up when it comes to cosplay again, which is really a sad thing to see. It's one thing to criticize your own cosplay because of things you don't like, but it is never cool to do that to someone else.

The most annoying thing for me is when I'm trying to get somewhere and people are either a) clogging the halls, or b) are walking right in front of you and then just stop for no reason. Every time it happens I just want to yell at someone.
Line up:
-Kageyama (Haikyuu)
-Cordelia (Fire Emblem Awakening)
-Marauder Ashe (League of Legends)
-??? Who knows what else. Probably a cosplay I can wear my glasses with.

The game, the chair, and the cosplays. I walked through the park during the Durararararararararararararararararara shoot and 90% of it was the same two characters x.x AND THERE WERE LIKE 60 PEOPLE THERE!

Other than the game something that I didn't hear that much of this con was the marco polo thing.

The free hug signs and when people hold out there arms expecting a hug from you and you already made eye contact and its awkward when you walk away without giving them a hug. I DON'T FREAKING KNOW YOU! YOU MAY SMELL! I"M WEARING NEXT TO NOTHING! LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE! I will say I am more inclined to give girls hugs than guys especially when I am wearing skimpy outfits.

Apparently the game was to end when the Prime Minister or something said "the game is done"... which happened two years ago... so the game is freaking done

Also, I really hate it when people brag on and on about how awesome their cosplay is. Sometimes they do it when other's ask, but I had this one Dressy Ciel that kept going on and on about how awesome her costume was... the back of her dress was ripped open, her wig was matted and she had no hat. Seriously, don't brag... it makes me really hate your cosplay, no matter what it looks like

Also, when people make fun of other cosplayers. As a plus size cosplayer, I can say it really really hurts. Just because you don't look like you walked right out of the show/video game/manga/book/tv show/whatever, doesn't make it a bad cosplay

Annoying when People Stop in the Middle of the hall for pics -_-' Seriously move to the side or something, I cosplay Bleach the character is similar to me so thats why I cosplay it. I dont mind seeing alot of naruto, ouran and full metal alchemist. Thats not annoying most ppl know those series because thats what they started with. I started with Yu Yu Hakusho some other started with older anime.

"The Game". It was interesting to learn what it was my first con, but not really great after that.

I'm pretty lenient of people's costumes and what they choose to wear. I do want to gripe a little to some of them and kindly ask them to cover a certain portion of their body that I shouldn't have to see. For example, there was a gentleman, with his friend, who was addressing some cosplay issues with his lower half at the end of a quiet hall we were chilling at and it seemed like he wasn't wearing anything to cover his butt or front other than the cosplay bit. I didn't get a good look cause I didn't want to, but it was kind of awkward and I wanted to ask if he'd feel more comfortable doing that in the men's bathroom rather than in front of 5 girls sitting on the floor, 2 of which were minors.

I guess that falls under be mindful of what you wear and how you adjust yourself?

Free hugs. Awkward. Especially when all 3 days I was hugged by the same person. I did like how this individual waited to see any kind of ok from you before directly proceeding to hug.

o.o I'm sad to hear a lot of this picking-on and insulting business going on. I always hear of it, but never see it in person. If I have a comment to make, I think it. You can think whatever you want, but I don't believe that gives you the right to waltz up and tell them what's wrong with their costume. Maybe going up and asking if they'd like advice on a certain part, AND including to offer your contact info to further the conversation. If you aren't going to offer some solid good advice and be willing to possibly talk after-con, then kindly keep your lips shut.

I agree to a point about cosplay, I do look for unusual cosplayers to take pictures. Many of the female Hetalia cosplayers starting to look same old same old to me.  Why I do not seem any male Hetalia cosplayers?

As a furry there is a false assumption one is needs to be in a animal costume to attend a furry convention (specially among press and shock jock trying to “infiltrate" the con get a scoop ) , I wonder there a similar false assumption about anime conventions;  that one has to  cosplay to attend anime  conventions.

As for "the game", I do not let it get to me; young people will be young people.

Mostly people congesting halls and PEOPLE WHO SHOVE PAST YOU TO GET ON AN ELEVATOR. Nothing is more annoying then patiently waiting there in line and when it gets to the point where your the first person, a group of people squeeze up there after being there for 10 seconds and filling it up.. When you've been standing there for about 5 minutes waiting.. I don't mind if your staff or you have a valid reason for needing to get up there but when it's blatantly obvious that your just to damn lazy to stand in line its just rude.

The one thing I get really fed up with at cons would be the unnecessary drama. I mean, come on! You're at a convention where you're supposed to forget about your troubles and have a good time while surrounded by an awesome and exciting atmosphere. People need to realize just how spoiled enough they are for being able to attend a convention in the first place, and learn to appreciate that! Have fun, damn it! >T

i never get the game thing, but im guessing the multiple costumes... i want to stand out too, but then again, there's this sense of belonging when u are with someone with your costume... not sure, that's how i see with other people since they had more fun hanging out with people in the same costumes... when i found out there was another BRK other than me i had mixed feelings really, YAY sum1 also cosplayed BRS, NYUUU im not a unique cosplay anymore XDDD-- when i tried to hang around with the BRS team, we didnt really click-- but hey, it was worth the try. so i went off with my lone wolfy cannon once again XD

im just saying tho-- no offense to the BRS team-- you guys were awesome~!!! i just did wish we clicked more =w=

I am guilty of cosplaying a popular character but I always try to do something to make it stand out. Like I made Aerith's weapon because I dont see many people actually making that prop. And I actually made my bangs stick up. I belive that people will cosplay what they want and I'm fine with seeing multiples of the same cosplay. I choose to see it as they appreciate the same character that I also like and that is a good thing.

The most Annoying part? Probably the people that assign you a role in their little con day dream and will hug without warning and then run off again or stay to add to your confusion because you have no clue what they are talking about. I am always friendly to everyone unless they overstep their bounds (like leading into a creeper or sexual harrassment kind of way) But I would appreciate some distance and the ability to say yes or no to hugs and such. OH and the Cosplay chess. I wanted to see more mock battle style that made sense (not a bunch of random characters assisting out of the blue) and the use of the characters actual moves/ weapons I didn't see a lot of that and it dissapointed me. Oh and I wanted to duct tape the commentators mouths shut. Could not stand that laugh.

See that isn't too bad. If someone is wearing the sign and has people come up to them rather than the sign holder going up to people expecting hugs. It's much less awkward that way, people who want to give and get hugs will be happy rather than somone wanting a hug but not getting it. I am also much more likely to hug a cosplayer than someone just holding the sign.

I do think a lot about bad cosplays >.> I saw this one Ichigo cosplayer (Bleach) who had really bad hair, but he was really in character, so I started talking to him. He was a really great guy and fun to talk to, and we became con buddies. I feel like if you're going to be a little off, be in character!

Though it was funny seeing a Lizzie (Kuroshitsuji) outside smoking xD

In defense of Cosplay Chess, this year not only were we trying out new things(commentators and music) but also audience members decided that they needed to be part of the action instead of leaving it to us pieces. I will admit though that this was the worst year I've seen since I started attending Kumoricon. We have multiple threads going on about working out the kinks and making next year extraordinary, so I hope you'll give us a try next year and have a much better experience.

Too much stress and drama. When i go to a con, i want to relax and have an awesome time, not be crying because of the stress other people are causing for me. I'm seriously considering getting a room for myself next year just so i don't have to deal with dumb people and all their stress. The last thing i want to do is sit there for an hour waiting for people to get ready and end up missing a pannel or a time when i was sopposed to meet up with someone because we didn't get out and there on time.

my biggest issue is, is when people step on my outfit or drag me places I don't want to go or tie me up. 1. Ask me if I am okay with it and 2. don't find a person cosplaying the same character then tell me to my face i am too tall and say they are prettier! excuse me I worked hard on it and don't want it ruined nor do I want it bashed infront of me!

Also that dressy ciel with the tear on her back was a nice and intresting person indeed!

Oh I'm giving it a try. I actually plan to maybe enter next year because it looked like fun even though it was disappointing. The audience should stay out of it I think if thats what was happening. The handing weapons to Mokina wasn't that bad (fairly entertaining) But the random things popping up for support of characters that didnt even make sense in the slightest... That was a tad annoying.

The only thing that REALLY gets on my nerves at conventions (any convention) is hall-clogging. But honestly, that wasn't as much of an issue at this year's Kumoricon--the halls were nice and wide, and people were usually considerate about trying to get out of the way for pictures (or conversely, leaving space for others to go around them). So I actually don't feel like it's a legitimate complaint this year :D

Also, as others have mentioned, UNNECESSARY DRAMA, but again I feel like there was less of that this year. Over-all I feel pretty positively about kumoricon right now :)

There have been a few creepy people at conventions. One actually tried to kiss me out of the blue! X_X Even if you are joking about it you need to ask before you randomly grab someone and move your face too close X_X Besides that I was spoken for at that time so it wouldnt have been good!

I'm sure most of these have been said already, but here's my two cents (I'll even bold the ones that are extra annoying!):

- The game.
- Mainstream cosplays. (It's unfortunate seeing the same characters over and over again.)
- People thinking that just because you're at a convention means they can forget all common sense and manners.
- People who can't recognize when a conversation is over. (And you're trying your best to be polite, but it's just like, "Yeah.. um... I have to.. go..".)
- Weeboos. (I know, I know, I'm at an anime convention.)
- The Glomp Circle. (Yes I still have a vendetta against it from last year's incident.)
- People asking for photos at inappropriate times.
- People clogging the halls.
- Con creepers.
- Con drama.
- People who aren't respectful of fragile or expensive costumes.
- Loud people. (Srsly. Shut up.)

I know, I'm a crotchety old lady. :B

Cheek kiss or lip kiss? (It probably doesn't matter, but at least on the cheek there's maybe some excuse as it could be considered a greeting, lol)

^^ Wow, that most definitely crosses the line. Some people, some close friends, can take their cosplaying to that level, kissing in character and what-not, and if it's agreed upon between them, that's one thing. But just up and trying to put the moves on a stranger...no effin' way. Hopefully someone reported the guy.

YES, THIS. I would have to put that as my second most irritating observation at cons. People can get so carried away in their own little world that they don't even consider the fact that reality is still happening around them. What I don't like is when they turn into a-holes when they are required to step off (for even a brief moment) of their happy little cloud for the sake of someone else's comfort, whether they are a convention attendee or not. Boundaries, people! They are needed, even at conventions!!

I was walking along the sidewalk outside of the Hilton this year and a girl seriously just walked right into me, didn't stop, and didn't apologize. I didn't have any room on my other side to move and she must have had about three persons worth of space on her other side. WTF.
Line up:
-Kageyama (Haikyuu)
-Cordelia (Fire Emblem Awakening)
-Marauder Ashe (League of Legends)
-??? Who knows what else. Probably a cosplay I can wear my glasses with.

For me? Personally? All of the minors that have no manners. I don't mind the ones that have them, but all the bloody green badges with absolutely no manners to speak of. They think that because they are under the age of 18, they entitled to do whatever they want. I had three photos ruined by greenbadges. I was up on the fish, late at night, and they all decided to try and climb and get up there too. While the person was trying to take the picture. And I asked them three times to get down, and they just asked me who I thought I was, and why I thought that I had the right to tell them what to do.

There went that photo op. I barely get pictures taken of me at con as is, even when I do have a really good cosplay.

Also, that's another thing that annoys me. I know that people are looking for certain cosplayers, but do you know how much it picks up someones day to be asked to have a picture taken of them? It's like someone shoved your own personal sunbeam into a persons heart. It's a beautiful feeling. Especially if they are wearing a nice outfit, but aren't a character from a series. People, stop to actually think that not just the 'popular' cosplays need pictures taken. Even if you don't KNOW a series, perhaps stopping to ask for their picture would actually really help their day out.

I ended up sitting in the park, on saturday night, just before all the minors were kicked out. I was sitting with a group of nearly twenty cosplayers, tucked away in the park, who had never had their picture taken the whole convention.

So i guess what annoys me most is that people think they are all that at conventions, and don't stop to consider other peoples feelings.

about the #3

They weren't necessary audience members. They were alternates that were sad they didn't get to play. And before the game even started there was a chance for the chess pieces to ask for help FROM the alternates. I think it got carried away a bit but I am pretty sure some of them were planed. If there was a giant rush then I don't think it was planned. I think I remember when one chess piece actually called out to the Inuyasha cosplayer, that seemed planned to me.

Another thing that sort of bothers me is when people don't respect other peoples personal space. I enjoy hugging, cuddling, and snuggling and all that, but it would be nice to be able to do all that without having my ass grabbed or my face kissed by some random stranger i just met. It just doesn't make me comfortable :I At one point i got surprize tongue kissed by someone i was hanging out with at a photoshoot, which i really wasn't all too happy about...Let's just say i didn't hang out with them after that.

That seems to happen the most with the most popular cosplays like Durarara and Hetalia (at this moment). You will find that if you cosplay less popular stuff it is less likely to happen since all the weeaboos aren't cosplaying for it either. In all my years going to a con it seems like the most immature people are the ones cosplaying from the popular series. Not everyone is immature that cosplays from them but it seems like the marge majority is.

Yeah, i've noticed that too. I try not to let it ruin my fun of cosplaying from a series though. Hetalia has been my favorite for over two years now, so i wouldn't let a bunch of insane fans ruin it for me. I have, however, met a ton of really great people and made a lot of friends at meetups and cons just from cosplaying Hetalia, so it's totally been worth it because of that. You just need to figure out how to pick through the pile of needles in order to find those few pieces of hay, so to speak :3

Well, you should never let someone or something intimidate you from cosplaying someone you really want to. Just try to keep yourself surrounded by people you trust, who you know will keep creepers away. I will gladly provide this service if desired, even if I'm not cosplaying Hetalia, heh.

That is true, there were a mix of people from both audience and alternates that jumped in. However, unless you are summoned to the board you are an audience member for the time being. Simply because you are a possible summon doesn't mean you can jump onto the board on a whim. Yes it sucks that you weren't chosen as a piece, but that doesn't mean you can interrupt the action and alter the experience of pieces and audience members.

Some were planned, but they were in the minority by a fair amount. The Jirachi was planned both times, Inuyasha the first time was planned, Chelsea and me helping Lightning was planned. The random giant groups of people were not planned. As far as I gathered, the only planned one that involved more than one character was when Lightning summoned us.

Cosplay Elitism is questionably absent from this list, and it's my #1 choice. As a fan, yay, you cosplayed something and it's a good costume. This DOESN'T mean you get to be a prick to other people whose skills aren't as good as yours. It happens in my circle of friends and I see it at cons all the time. To those elitist cosplayers, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.

I hear ya. You might be able to tell from my avatar, but Hatori Sohma (Fruits Basket) is one of my favorite characters... and it makes me a little sad to do the cosplay and have few to no people recognize the character or want to take a picture.

But you know, sometimes you have to choose what you most want. I love cosplaying Hatori, whether people recognize him or not. But I wouldn't recommend cosplaying him to someone who really wants to be recognized and have their picture taken.

Some people cosplay characters that are popular rather than the ones they love, because recognition is the most important to them. And others are lucky enough to love characters that are popular, getting the best of both worlds. But if the character is more important to you than the recognition? All you can really do is make the cos as recognizable as possible, then suck it up and treasure the moments when someone recognizes you all the more.

And those moments do become priceless when they're few and far between. It usually means you've found someone who loves the character as much as you do, and you can't beat that experience. :)
This is my serious voice. Otherwise, I'm just another anime fan, not a moderator.

Random, wait you were at Kumoricon! As Hatori?!? Oh goddess, if I have known you were there I'd be cuddling you. Sorry if that sounds weird, but Hatori and Ayame are my favorite characters from that series. Hatori because I just break inside when I remember his story, and Ayame cause I love snakes.

Sorry if that sounds weird, but Hatori and Ayame are my favorite characters from that series. Hatori because I just break inside when I remember his story, and Ayame cause I love snakes.

I actually didn't cosplay him this year (too busy running around in circles), but I did in 2009 and 2010. And if I get a chance, I'll try again next year.

Thank you for the encouragement; it really does make me feel a lot better to know other people love the character as well.

Sometimes its not even about not recognizing the character but being to busy with your quest to stop and ask for someones picture. I saw so many people I wanted pictures of but my camera was being finicky and not working half the time and then sometimes I was just on a mission and had no time to stop. Its partially about being at the right place at the right time. While yes it does suck to not have your picture taken. People cosplaying OC's should do so with an understanding that not a lot of people are gonna be running up to take a picture because they have no idea what you are from, or they will take your picture and think you are something else entirely. Just try hanging out and being silly (but mature and respectful about it) and sometimes that will get you more photo ops because people like to remember who they hung out with. Or make something fantastic that makes your OC stand out. I only took one photo of an OC cosplayer because he had made some pretty cool armor and I thought it was awesome so it caught my attention.

Another thing to add to the list of annoyances: Having to choose between panels and activities due to overlapping schedules. I know this can't be helped much but it still makes a libra like me torn inside when having to choose. (I don't believe in star signs, but I am a typical libra for the most part)

Character I would most want to be at a convention if I could have their special powers: Naruto for the shadow clones.

Also, that's another thing that annoys me. I know that people are looking for certain cosplayers, but do you know how much it picks up someones day to be asked to have a picture taken of them? It would be nice to have a photo-op meet for people who haven't had their pictures taken but would like to... Day 2 I didn't get any pictures taken of me (that I know of) except for the photo booth so I would have loved to join the group in the park and take pictures with each other. :3

There were actually quite a few people I wanted to take pictures of but being all sorts of shy inside made me feel like a creeper if I were to ask, like those two girls in the purple and green corsets for example. I would have loved to get their pictures even though I don't think they were from an anime, and I did actually get quite a few pictures of people who weren't from any series that I knew but I appreciated the art (for example, the girl in the pink dress I think people are calling Ceil I am learning now. Awesome cosplay, but I have no clue where it is from.)

It is awesome to cosplay as a character you love, but of course there are risks to consider... like in this case cosplaying the girl from Fruits Basket... She looks like an ordinary girl for the most part that unfortunately would be hard to spot compared to a Misa or those Mew Mew girls. It still comes down to art composition that the human eye is going to be drawn to bright flashy abnormal things unless you have a keen eye or perhaps if that character is with a group of other cosplayers from the same series that would help them pop out in a crowd. Each cosplay has a risk associated with it whether it is the risk of getting french kissed or getting passed by. Respect for anyone who tries these types of cosplays that might not get noticed no matter how good they are.

Oh yeah, another annoyance that can't be helped... people being creeped out by you just based on natural looks. I'm happy I got a fair ammount of hugs, but I was created with this face and body that I have no replacement parts for as of yet. I wish I could be cute and attractive but on the bright side, when I am trying to be creepy it tends to work fairly well (I'm so looking forward to making a Kefka cosplay some day despite being tall).

There went that photo op. I barely get pictures taken of me at con as is, even when I do have a really good cosplay.

I always try to get pictures of people, regardless of what costume (anime, steampunk, lolita) they're wearing.  In some cases, it's hard to get pictures because people look so busy.  But I do make an effort, especially if I see someone by themselves and they look sort of bored and lonely.  You can definitely tell it cheers them up pretty quick.  They usually have a, "what? me? seriously?" look on their face and then they're very happy to oblige. ^_^

^ Agreed. Oh, and also the people expecting me to take a picture of just the "pretty" one but I wanted a picture of both of them, especially since they're from the same series O.o

I took single pictures of each person when necessary, but I have to feel sorry for the people who are used to people asking for just single pictures of their friends because their outfit isn't up to that level. lol... I say that as I remember I was one of those people, but it was different since Kaito and Jill Valentine aren't even in the same series and my outfit was only about 85% complete.

oh yeah, srsly.  I'd ask for a photo, and like one of the people ducks away.

"What?! Where are you going? I want your picture, too!"

That's a nifty idea... when it gets closer to next con, I think a lot of people would love you for hosting a "Rare Cosplays" shoot time, with the theme being cosplays that don't get as much attention. In fact, I'm pretty sure you'd have to host it in the park just to have enough space for everyone.  ;)

I know what you mean! This year was my first year having people ask for my picture, and even though it was probably mostly because of the scavenger hunt, I felt so special and loved. Even when people just asked for a hug (I was one of the lucky ones; people ran at me and scared the bejesus out of me, but that was mostly because they were dressed as scary characters...).

A couple years ago, at my first con, I took loads of pictures just because I liked the outfit. I went back a few weeks ago and realized just how many of those "unknown cosplays" I now know. It's like a little time capsule of ignorance.

._. All these stories just enforce my idea of making a sign that says "No Touchy" or something on it for my back. As much as I know hugs and stuff come with cons, I try to venture away from glomp circles if only for the fact that I'm the size some hyper person is going to pick up and swing me around like a body pillow. *shivers*
Though, a sign saying "don't touch" will probably encourage people to come closer and to touch. Same if I had a "no hugs please" sign. They'll wanna do it, specifically because the sign says don't. Not that everyone would, but those people are out there..

Were paddle abusers ever really bad a kumoricon? this is my first time going and read they were banned. From what I've heard of happenings at other conventions I certainly agree with the ban.

And to be honest I'm not even familiar with what these paddles are, but the stories tell me enough that it would be uncomfortable pretty much getting assaulted every 2 minutes without your permission.

I actually really appreciate the way people are responding to this. It's not even so much the OC cosplays, but the people wearing pretty awesome looking normal clothing. I mean a cosplayer I know, who wasn't at con this year, usually walks around wearing a Kakashi wig and bondage type clothing. It looks bloody awesome, and it's a great cosplay. I think setting up a Photoshoot, probably sometime before noon on the last day of con, for Cosplayers who haven't had their picture taken much, would be an awesome idea. Even if the cosplay isn't that very good, or it's just really awesome costume work, but not any sort of character from any series, just something in their closet.

I'm actually really really happy that people responded this way. This year at con, I was asked to have my picture taken a couple of times. I was doing mY OC, and I'll admit my school girl outfit and wig were actually very well done. (Thanks to two friends that helped me with my wig, once before con and once after.)... Like the first time, I literally was in shock, because I never expected for someone to ask for my picture. I was in the park talking to Durarara cosplayers on Day 1, and someone asked me for my picture. I was in utter shock, I never expected it. Then there was a few other times, some by friends mostly, but the point is that it really did pick up my day.

Seriously, even the lesser known characters, like my other Cosplay (Female Martial Arts Turk, Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis and Last Order), get even less attention then normal people. I love it when people actually recognize the character I am doing out of the love for the character. Everytime my picture was taken the look on my face was "Seriously? You want me? But I'm not even from this - or I'm not even that good looking."

The people that took my picture, really picked up my day.

Wait... Iruka, were you the girl with the silver hair at the Kingdom Hearts 101 panel?

Also, on the photoshoot, as great as that would be, that conflicts with cosplay chess, which I would rather go to... plus sometimes cosplayers won't be wearing their outfits on the third day. Maybe late on day 2?

PDA. People who think that just because they're at a con, that its okay to suddenly become intimate with strangers or just in public. I dont mind if the the people are actually together or if its a peck on a FRIENDS cheek or something like that. But when its with strangers, that's just creepy or if 2 people are making physical sexual jokes.
Also, rape jokes. Those are really bad. :C

I mean. not everyone is comfortable with that. And there are still people outside the con walking around. bleh.

I definitely voted the game. I hate it with a burning passion. As much as I hate "the cake is a lie". which is A LOT. We're not all 13 years old anymore, kids. Play that during your recess.

Another annoying thing is LITTERERS. Just because you're in the park doesn't mean you own it! This is one of the reasons Cosplayers get a bad rap! Clean up your crap! If the trashcan is full then find another one!

Another annoying thing is LITTERERS. Just because you're in the park doesn't mean you own it! This is one of the reasons Cosplayers get a bad rap! Clean up your crap! If the trashcan is full then find another one!

That's actually something that was addressed at the Rant n' Rave panel at the end of the con.  I told the facilities Liaison that I'd give him the number of the woman who schedules events at the park so that we could better prepare for the massive amount of garbage next time. ;D
My cosplay plans for 2022 (thus far): Vanir from Konosuba
My son's plans this year (thus far): Penguin Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh

For me it's people who come and are super loud and rude and I doubt they really like anime. I know one of them, lets just say the few times I was around her she saw a man cross dressing and yelled, "YOU'RE HOT!" from across the park. I had met the guy at Sakuracon so it was super embarrassing for me. I'm not sure about but I know that sometimes guys who crossdress/crossplay don't like people to yell things like that from across the park.
The game is stupid as well, I stop playing that in middle school and when I hear, "I just lost the game" I want to punch the person.
I don't mind 50 Italys/Ciels/Haruhis but it does bug me when people put no effort into the costume. Even if it's bought I don't mind if the person tries to make it look good (because most bought costumes have something wrong with them) or plays the part. Bragging doesn't help either.
The littering also bothered me, I was sitting with my friend outside of the Red Lion on that grassy part and I was surprised about all the garbage. Be polite please and pick up after yourself.

I did get annoyed enough with the cat calls and whistles I was receiving on Monday to just avoid the park all together. XD  Even though I played along, it got the point where I couldn't go 15 feet.

I have some info for about the cosplays bit. (Also, excuse me if I have mispelled words, I have a wrist wrap on cause I sprained my wrist =.= )

I find it HIGHLY annoying when you are cosplaying something, and then you see another cosplayer who is the exact same character as you... you wave and smile cause you see another you....

And they glare and proceed to ignore you.

I mean seriously, wtf? Why can't people be nice to others? My friends and I met our doubles, and their doubles seemed to glare and sort of be arrogant and ignore my friends when they smiled? I mean really? I saw another me and we both squeed cause we found our doubles! ^^

Please at least smile and be considerate, not stuck up snobs cause you think you are so much better than your double... It's childish and gets old very fast.

There have been a few creepy people at conventions. One actually tried to kiss me out of the blue! X_X Even if you are joking about it you need to ask before you randomly grab someone and move your face too close X_X Besides that I was spoken for at that time so it wouldnt have been good!

Cheek kiss or lip kiss? (It probably doesn't matter, but at least on the cheek there's maybe some excuse as it could be considered a greeting, lol)

Lip XP It was a Vincent Cosplayer When I first cosplayed Lucrecia in 2009

I Think I know this cosplayer you speak of >->; I got pinned down by a vincent in 2009 and he tried to french kiss me when I was cosplaying Zidane...

Oh god I know the creeper vincent! *pours bleach in eyes* @.@ I'm so sorry he acted that way!! and I don't like him either ._.

I would have to say 1 and 3. The game...is done. So can it!!!
I understand that people like certain mainstream characters and I respect that but you should know that there are going to be millions of you walking around already and you probably won't be appreciated as much. I like to be creative and unique ^_^

I don't want to bash on or disrespect people for doing a bad cosplay so I'll try not to be too harsh:
When you make your cosplay please please please try and put effort into making it! D:
I see too many people dressing up and their costumes look last minute :/
Take the time and if it isn't ready to be shown or something is missing then don't do it yet, there is always next con ^.^

Also I'm a guy who happens to be engaged. I really don't appreciate when people flirt with me on a serious level. Guys and girls....I have to know you and I have to know you are messing around and don't mean any harm. It just freaks me out in general x.x

I agree. It saddens me to see a cosplay that looks like there was no effort put in, especially when I love the character. Its even more sad when its just the hair! If all you had to do was straighten your hair you would do it right? I can understand if it looks like the person tried with the hair but just couldn't do it but when I see that someone didn't try at all it just irks me.

I also agree with the flirting. Find out if they are single first and dont be too serious about it.

Nobody has ever tried to flirt with me (it's mostly people being creepers on me), but I think most people should flirt at cons, unless you're good friends or if it's a Fanservice photoshoot (even then you should check)

+First off, I HATED all the trash in the park. On Day 1 the grass was clean and everything was nice and neat. By Day 2 things were trashed and ugly. It was annoying, and I realize that the trashcans were full and all, but that doesn't mean you can just leave your trash under the tree where you were eating. >:C

+Secondly; On Day 2 I was Sailor Saturn. Lots of people were taking my picture, but at one point a man asked for my picture and the cosplayer next to me was like "Who me?" And the man was like "No! Her."
I was confused as to why he didn't want the other guys picture.
It really made me feel bad because the cosplayer walked away like he was going to cry and I really wanted to go and take his picture but I didn't have access to my phone's camera at the time.

-So basically what I hate is when 'photographers' don't think of a person's feelings before rejecting him from a photo.
I was very proud when one girl refused a picture unless her friend could be in it to. I hate people that get rejected from photos. I mean, you don't know how hard someone's worked on a cosplay, so you can't just pay them no attention.

If I had a camera I would take pictures of everyone at cons, but sadly I don't have a camera DX

+Another thing that bothers me is 'the Game'
I heard about it my first con, and I was like, oh that's cool.
Second con. It was getting on my nerves.
And after my second con I started hearing people at school saying it, like, 'cool' kids. XP So effin' annoying.
My third con, KumoriCon'11. So ****** annoyed I found myself saying "Nobody cares." Everytime somebody said "I just lost the Game!"

+AND- I hate people that think their cosplay is superior to others just because they made it themselves.
I mean, I handmake all my cosplays unless it's easily 'closet cosplayed'
I don't flaunt my stuff like my **** don't stink.
I mean, at a D.Gray-Man gathering at TaiyouCon'11, me and my Lenalee were ditched by this Lavi chick because she didn't like our cosplays. She was like "I made this myself." And I had made my Allen cosplay myself too, and she was totally irritated because we weren't oo-ing and ah-ing over her craftsmenship.
Sure her cosplay was amazing, but it was so annoying to hear her gloating. >.<

I think there's nothing wrong with wearing something incomplete at con. My America costume is practically a closet costume, the only thing I bought for that costume was the jacket. As long as it's not half way sewn on I think it's fine. You should do it because it's fun. My friend wore outfits that were pieced together day of for most of the con it seemed like

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Wrath-chan.  Who cares if someone's cosplay is poorly done or not complete, so long as people are having fun with it?  As long as they don't try to boast about the awesome costume they threw together, I see no problem with it.  For all you know, a person's poorly-assembled costume may be what they had the *skill* to put together or what they could afford.  Everyone takes cosplaying too seriously sometimes.  Just relax and enjoy the opportunity to wear wacky clothing and to style your hair in an impractical fashion ;)

yes so much!

I would also say very broad here, people being mean, or rude. I mean your at an anime convention!  This is a place where people understand each other, why put some of the few people who share your hobby down?

When people make their own costume, it really depends on the attitude, proud is fine, or like the Japanese modesty is the way to go, like "I made it, it turned out okay, yours is great" or being honenst "I made this, what do you think is it okay?" That way your not fishing for compliments so much as reassurance.   Which I can understand if someone is insecure about how it turned out, not just to brag.

Does that make sense?  I can sew some costumes, some times I buy parts. I also can't reach the high shelf in the kitchen,  some one who can isn't better then me, also doesn't make a home made costume better then bought, we all have skills and talents we excel at and those we don't

I've had people give me crap for my first Len Kagamine cosplay because I basically just altered clothes and used left over material from previous cosplays. I didn't have his belt and the arm things are too long and the tie isn't shaped exactly like his. And I just bleached my hair instead of having a wig.
I mean, I wasn't going for perfect, it was just to take pictures with my friend Casey who cosplays Rin. And I know it isn't the best, but it really hurts my feelings when people point it out. Which my friend Casey kept doing >:C I don't mean to be mean, but her Rin wasn't perfect either so she really couldn't be so high and mighty.
*sigh*
I just wish people would stop being so judmental about cosplays and the cosplayers and just be happy they can be with people that enjoy the same things that they do.

It is really rude when people point those things out. I mean I joked around with my friend she had left her binding stuff at home for her Ace costume on day 0 by saying "Nice boobs" to her. But when you are mean about it's just no fun. I mean some of my friends aren't completely accurate with their costumes or some parts are done quickly and it bothers me like crazy but I keep my mouth shut because they're happy with their costumes which is what matters.

It makes me sad to see a poorly done character that I really love but due to the exact reasons you just stated I do keep my mouth shut and I am friendly to everyone. I just keep in mind that they loved the character enough to cosplay it no matter how good their skills are (first cosplays for example mine was a disaster) Its mainly hair that irks me. If someone uses their real hair and its not a difficult styling task it irks me that they did not even attempt to do it.. But again I never say anything to them directly and if I do its a suggestion on good styling products or tutorials that are great for what they are shooting for I don't ever wanna be mean. I would hope that others would keep their rude comments to themselves too its just not ok to intentionally put someone down.

I also agree with the flirting. Find out if they are single first and dont be too serious about it.

I am guilty of the not having one of my costumes done on time and wearing it to con(It was my Amaimon cosplay). I just mainly wanted to wear the wig since it was my first time dying and styling a wig like that and i was really happy with it. I don't normally do that and to be honest i didn't think anyone would recognize the character. ^^' I guess i shouldn't have done so and i just should have worn my Princess Yue or Simca outfit again. So i am very sorry if i may have been one of those people you are talking about. I am working on getting it complete now though.

I wouldn't know if you were one of the people but it's alright :)
Also if people are wanting to do a cosplay but it's not completely done then it's not really considered a cosplay.
Say I want to do something like Cloud from FF7. You never see that cloud is missing something he generally wears. Like shoes or pants. Just saying :/

One more thing, people who aren't good at making cosplays it's fine. It just takes practice...

Isn't cosplay about having fun? Not how accurate you're supposed to be? ^_^ We are a bunch of people dressed up running around and having fun. Now mind you if you go into a competition you definitely want to bring your all. But for just walking around and hanging out with friends and getting to know people does it really matter? Yes, those who put time, effort and money will stand out among the rest. And that gives others something to work towards. I miss how the cons used to be. Can't we all just get along and give each other helpful advise and encourage each other?

It is really rude when people point those things out. I mean I joked around with my friend she had left her binding stuff at home for her Ace costume on day 0 by saying "Nice boobs" to her. But when you are mean about it's just no fun. I mean some of my friends aren't completely accurate with their costumes or some parts are done quickly and it bothers me like crazy but I keep my mouth shut because they're happy with their costumes which is what matters.

I think you nailed it - if even friends would rather turn constructive criticism into a joke, then it doesn't really make sense for strangers to be harsh about it without even being asked. A friend has the right to (and a real friend should) tell you when you look goofy... but for a stranger to assume the same rights as a friend to joke or criticize is a little galling.
This is my serious voice. Otherwise, I'm just another anime fan, not a moderator.

Okay. First off, I don't think there was a single professional cosplayer there. I believe the majority of people do it for fun and hey, sometimes it is last minute. I believe it was Leonardo da Vinci who said "Art is never finished, only abandoned." I'll admit that mine was last minute since I took less than 3 days on it but that's because I only found out I would be going 4 days before the con, yet I still got complements and when some people found out how little time was spent on it they were usually with big eyes and said "wow!" On the other hand, I don't take much pride in it since it since it wasn't finished and my hair was horrible, and I certainly don't brag about it. I am still happy I was able to go and that people recognized me as the character even through the flaws. Now that said... I do believe effort should be put into a cosplay, but we have no right to judge how much effort someone else did in my opinion.

As for the flirting part, I am seriously curious, how do you find out if they are single first? Do you just walk up to people and ask if they're single and then start flirting? I always thought most people use a little mild flirting was part of finding out in the first place. Again, I am actually serious about this because Until recently I have never really been single (outside of high school) and have no clue on how to meet people, let alone the other typical courtship rituals. (please feel free to keep it to private messages if you wish or deem necessary since this will probably take the post off topic even more than it already is)

Not that I'm all for flirting with every person I meet, and I probably have a different definition of flirting than most... >.>

Oh, and I personally believe people should be friends first before serious dating, but I hardly know anything on the subject...

I myself have worn costumes that weren't quite right.  Perhaps the best example would have been my Ranma costume.  During '08, I had to find a way to have the pants replaced, because they got damaged rather quickly and I didn't know too many people who could sew them back up at the time.  I just grabbed a pair of black sweat pants, and nobody seemed to notice, or care enough to point it out to me.  So long as they aren't wearing a single box with the word "GUNDAM" written on it with a red crayon, I don't usually make a fuss about things.

Something that I find annoying is when people are hardcore fanatics over one series, and expect you to have the same level of knowledge of that show, just because you're at an anime convention, too.  (Not everyone there likes Pokemon, people... ;D)

I believe it was Leonardo da Vinci who said "Art is never finished, only abandoned."

Off topic, but yes, that was da Vinci who said that.

Wait, has anyone mentioned body odor?  XD

Or did I already?

I don't remember.

Anyways, it stinks.  Literally.

Obviously, in some cases, there's nothing you can do.  Even when you put on deodorant in the morning.

I carried around a little bottle of coconut lime body mist that I would spray on regularly to keep myself fresh and girly~ smelling.

But really, I'm talking about the people that haven't even felt a bar of soap in their hands in a week and a half.  XD

Pleeeeeaase.... don't be the stereotype.  ;___;  Plus, I kind of don't like smelling you in line.   :D

^ lol, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned either. I'm pleased to report that I don't remember smelling anyone.

I was really worried about that myself with how hot it was, but thank goodness at the end of the day when I double checked it wasn't very bad at all. Day 2 I made sure it wasn't a problem by making sure to take another swipe later in the day. By the way, that Tom's of Maine brand really does last suprisingly quite a long time despite being all natural and the "fresh apricot" flavor scent smells so good you could almost eat it. xp

As for the comment about da Vinci being off topic: I believe cosplay is an art form, so I believe it still applies.

The one thing that bothers me about cosplays are the shoes... I saw a girl who should have been wearing black flats or black heels or a sort of "nice" black shoe, and she was wearing white sneakers... that just ticks me the littlest. I mean, some shoes are going to be really effing hard to find (case in point, Undertaker boots. Those shoes are impossible to find. So I wore boots with a couple belts on them), but sneakers/converse really shouldn't be worn unless the character has them. You can get black flats for $10 pretty much anyway. Plus, you should own a pair anyways xD They're a total staple with clothes

Only thing about this is that at a convention you can end up doing a LOT of walking, I can understand not wanting to wreck your feet the first day.

Like my hubbys urahara geta, if we were going to be going to be doing a bit more walking like between the 2 hotels then he wore sandles (concrete bad for geta)

And i apologize because that is what i thought you meant in that if it wasn't perfect than it wasn't considered cosplay. I'm sorry i misunderstood. I agree that you should at least try and do a good job on representing the character you are cosplaying as and that you should put as much effort as possible into it but i can also understand those on a budget or who do not have the skills to make an amazing cosplay. Speaking of which i think i remember seeing you at Sakura Con and i wanted to say awesome costumes(if that is you in your profile pic). They looked really comfy too.

One of the most common things I hear on youtube about conventions is to wear comfortable shoes. It is nice to have the cosplay accurate if anything for pictures though.

I myself have a different problem... I don't know how to make my own shoes and since I have to go to the same place the Portland Trailblazers go to get their shoes.... yeah, no $10-$20 shoes for me... I'm lucky if I can get them for under $100. I used to joke that if I ever wanted roller skates I'd have to basically stick my feet in a couple of cow's butts. (which is not happening any time soon or hopefully ever ew.) That being said, I do have a pair of gothic boots that are 2-3 sizes too small and one of the liners that keeps the leg part up tends to cut into my skin for some reason... Quite uncomfortable but I love the look and couldn't resist since they were on sale (only worn on special occasions).

Woot, I just now realized I can be considered a plus sized cosplayer.

For some including myself when people cosplay as something and you look up to that character but the cosplay isn't finished it hurts :/
I saw a Packy cosplay from Cat **** One this year and he did a really great job! I'm glad he did too because I do admire that character and I would think he did a great job because he enjoys that character and looks up to them just as much as I do.
Now I'm not saying these cosplays have to be perfect (I do understand that everyone isn't amazing at crafting them) but please have the decency to have all the props/clothing for them. Now I know I sound like a big fat meanie jerk but people should at least have the common courtesy to do a decent job and to finish their cosplays if they are going to represent these cool characters :)

No i don't think you are a meanie jerk at all. It's your honest opinion and i respect that. :)
Haha thank you for understanding! I am glad you don't think I'm mean cause I'm actually not xD
And yes that's me and my fiancée in my picture! We might take the Ice Climbers again next year but I'm in 2 cosplay groups with my friends so I'm not sure! (Powerpuff Girls group cosplay and Ninja Nonsense group cosplay) :D

I've read almost all of the posts in here, and most of the things that annoy me at con, were already said.
But one that annoys me a lot, that I don't think was said, is the whole Caramelldansen thing.
It was cute, the first time I saw it, then it just got annoying...

Yeah, it is pretty annoying, not just because it's overly popular, but because nobody does the whole dance.  The dance is more than just the hand-flapping-hip-shaking motions.  Also, the original song is a little slower, making the singing sound like a human being instead of a computer program.  And, it's Swedish; why is a Swedish song so popular at Japanese anime conventions...?  I don't get it...

Numa Numa is Romanian I believe... As for Caramelldansen... I like the song, it never fails to make me smile and be happy, but it was beyond stupid when they played it at the rave on Sunday night and probably more than 50% of the people there were only doing the hand flapping and hip shaking. :/ I'm not saying that people need to know the whole dance, but seriously, you're at a rave, do more dancing than that, make the "official dance" into something else.
Line up:
-Kageyama (Haikyuu)
-Cordelia (Fire Emblem Awakening)
-Marauder Ashe (League of Legends)
-??? Who knows what else. Probably a cosplay I can wear my glasses with.

I thought the most Annoying thing was probably Chair. That just drove me nuts.

Oh, and on the topic of Free Hugs, I did it... a lot. But I was one of those people who would only hug people who were willing and even if someone made eye contact, I'd just smile and nod to them. I understand if people don't want free hugs~

If my memory serves me correctly it started as just hand flapping and hip shaking.... plus was an animated .gif that started it all then later the "official" music video added some other moves. Oh well, either way it is adorable IMO not to mention good exercise. It does get pretty awkward when only 2 people are doing it though. :P

Speaking of Caramell Dansen... Has anyone ever seen a cosplay of the 3 girls in the official video? Would anyone even recognise them if they were at a con?

I'm assuming that you're both referring to Dragostea Din Tei, by O-Zone.  If so, the language is Romanian.  The band members are Moldovan, however.

Carmelldancen is still a song I like however it is indeed overplayed as for the dance, I dont blame people for only doing the one move because not everyone takes time to learn the other steps and in a crowded area that one move is probably preferred lol

This is exactly what I meant by cosplay elitism. So the heck what if folks don't have the same skills as you? There's no requirement folks HAVE TO BE AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE. I've done a terrible House cosplay before (mostly because I'm wayyyyy to fat to be House.) Some people liked it, others didn't. People do come to con just to have fun, you know; not to have the best costume possible. Keep that in mind.

Yes but people are allowed to have opinions. I don't like last minute cosplays either, they look like wherry dung, and like the person didn't give a CRAP about the character they were portraying. Cosplay is an art form all of it's own. I know people that are elitists for a reason. You shouldn't come down on them for it. Honestly, if you were going to go listen to music... Would you rather listen to a bunch of people screeching noisily on their instruments, or competent players? That could at least string together a few notes, effectively.

You all make very good points. I think wanting to be better or see better cosplays is fine as long as people aren't being mean to other peoples faces. Let them enjoy con too, be proud of your own work, and be friendly. You never know whether or not those cosplayers are first timers or just unskilled and unfunded and who knows? You might decide they are awesome people.

Please keep in mind that speculating about others' motives isn't kosher, per the code of conduct.

If someone wants to be mean, sensitive, elitist, sloppy, or anything else under the sun that others find annoying, they can do so in their own words. (And they can be called out on their own words, too - but only for what they've actually said or inferred themselves.)

It's probably extremely obvious anyway, but: This doesn't have anything to do with reppy's post, it just falls under it.

I agree that cosplay eliteism is not a good thing at all, but how about someone who wears a card board box around their chest with a button with an "R" on it and wears clothing that has nothing to do with the character and then tries to join in the pokemon photoshoot claiming to be Jesse from team rocket?

I think that would be one of those awkward moments... especially if they were trolling trying to get in all the photos. Where do you draw the line?

maybe they were trying to be funny. Maybe they were doing a parody version of Jesse. What someone cosplays is their own business. I'm with Bresslol and Tom on this one. The thing I find most annoying about con (and after con with the on-forum ranting) is the cosplay elitism.

Saying someone's cosplay isn't really cosplay if they don't have all the props isn't right. Saying someone's cosplay sucks or is annoying to you because they did a closet cosplay or was thrown together three days before or the day of con is also not something I find even remotely cool. I had several cosplays that were made with days and months of work, and I love wearing them, even though some of them aren't that comfortable (and I ended up in white tennies on the second and third days as princess sakura, because my feet hurt so much), but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my last-minute, almost completely out of the closet, secret cosplay was my most popular, and the one I ended up wearing the most. Parts of it were held up with safety pins, and I got so many surprise glomps, photos, and general compliments for something that I didn't even know I'd be wearing until a week before con.

You really don't know how much effort a person put into their cosplay until you ask them, and assuming someone didn't try when they may have spent months on it, or saying their cosplay sucks after you find out that they pulled it out of their closet, that's just not nice. Some people can make an amazing cosplay in 3 days. some people can spend a year and make something that barely passes. It doesn't matter. If you can look at their cosplay and recognize what they're trying to be, it's a good thing. It's wonderful to see people cosplaying something from a series I like, even if they're only running around in boxers, a tank top, and an Axel wig. I'd snap a pic of that, and caption it "Axel flashing the Org" or something. I've had incredibly incorrect cosplays that were blasphemes to both series thrust upon me at cons, but they were fun to wear. What I hated about it was when people bashed me for wearing them anyway. If I want to be Kakashi in a Lolita dress with Itachi's headband around my thigh like a garter belt, I will! Noone has the right to destroy someone else's self esteem by bashing their cosplay, it's not freedom of speech. It's BULLYING.

I agree this is the most disrespecful thing ive seen even the princess sakura costume i made for max was made 2 days before con and it was still amazing adn so many people loved it as well.. just becuse you DONT have the best costume in the world or you threw it togeather CON is to be fun and to see old friends and make new ones not people bashing on echother.

I ve done worse cosplay. my 2008 con i wear what ever becuse i didnt have cosplay that fit me becuse i ended up being 5'4" to 5'6 with in the year yeah. so keep on bashing it makes you all who do this look stupid and pitaful the real truth is that you all are hateful people and should be disappointed in yourself.

Personally, I always ask if someone is in cosplay or not. After all, I may just not know of the series! And secondly, I'm no seamstress. If they made it, maybe I can get some tips! right? No harm, no foul.

But at the same time, at least for my own shoddy cosplay this year, I was broke. I had been kicked out of two family homes [that where my own family], and jobless for a time before I started to be able to THINK about 'OH CRAP KUMORICON!' what may have been two months before the con. Quite frankly, I was going to do Sailor Uranus all three days, but much to my dispise, my costume didn't fit with out help because I have gained ze fat. Well hell. No job for a time and kicked out of two homes by Kumo; I wouldn't doubt if I gained some stress weight! So yeah, I threw Fem!France together out of my closet, because I've gone to a cosplay thing without a costume, and felt HORRIBLE. I didn't have the 100$ for a new Sailor Uranus costume, and by the time I found out it didn't fit any more, it wouldn't have come anyways.

again, I'm no seamstress. So I sadly have to buy mine.

For what I did with a College student's pay while trying to find an apartment and car and make sure my Kitty-child-Jase was taken care of... I think I did alright. Perfect? HELL NO, but that's my own words for me.

No one knows what people go though, so if you don't like it, just don't say nothin'. Really as easy as that. But if you feel like you HAVE to say something, at least have the guts to tell the person yourself. don't be callin' people crap behind their backs, it just makes you look bad and cowardly.

But then again, what am I saying? I go for the fun and my friends and family I meet at Cons. Not just for the costumes, and most know I don't go for many of the panels either. -shrugs-

I'm sorry if i annoy anyone or step on anyone's toes, I certainly do not mean to. The thing is, I just don't believe in being mean to anyone because everyone is having fun but I still do have my opinions. I keep my opinions about the specifics to myself and off the forums, I find that to be proper etiquette. That doesn't mean that its necessarily bad to have an opinion does it? Like Clouds for instance, I am always super grateful when someone takes the time to attempt getting the hair right, it makes me sad that not a lot of people try beyond buying the outfit. That being said, I've seen some pretty funny stuff when it came to an inability to completely finish a cosplay and it made me smile. Like in 2009 when there was an Axel walking around con with flat hair and a sign taped to his back that read "cloud stole my hairgel". Most people (including myself) will not be rude or mean to cosplayers unless the cosplayers are rude or creepy or something.
To those of you who gave it your all and due to whatever reason couldn't quite get it right or scrambled ferociously to get one done in time for con and had fun I respect and salute you. Effort is all I ask.

Opinions are okay to have, line is drawn when opinions become mean and hurtful to others. Can we please move on from this topic? Its turning into a never-ending debate that is stepping on too many toes. x_x

Call it what you want like I said I don't appreciate incomplete cosplays. Do I get offended by people who have completed their costumes and it doesn't look super pro status? No I don't. I'm entitled to my opinion.

If people want to have rushed cosplays that aren't accurate or look great I don't really mind. I by no means am a great cosplayer, I can hardly sew, I don't have much patients but I do take pride in what I do. Personally the thing that really bothers me is the excuses. The "I can't sew that's why I have a bad costume" I can't sew very well either but I still manage to try and get help when I need it. There are hundreds of us on this forum, most of which live withing 10-20 miles from each other, there is no reason that someone couldn't help you sew something. However, even that doesn't bother me too much to make me want to call someone out. WHAT DOES PISS ME OFF, and this did happen during the con, is when I consider myself to have a very nice costume (it was my x-2 Rikku) and the parts that I did do I spent a lot of time and pride on only to have someone is a crappy costume with no wig and hair look like crap tell me the faults of my costume. I guess my thoughts on this are if you can't put together a good looking costume then you are in no place to tell others what is wrong with theirs. Even if you can't put a good looking costume together you really shouldn't tell people what is wrong with their costume, if you feel you must do it with some tact, like "hey how did you do this_____? Oh thats interesting, I've done it this way before and had good results" that way you are not coming off as an a**.

What really gets me are the people who think they are know it all the people who really get down and dirty when you now something and they make you feel even more stupid by saying you are not acting like your charater or make fun of how fat you are in your costume. IF i wanna be a punk Chibitalia i will.  It annoys me so much that people think they have the right to tell me to go in charater or act a way that i dont want to I am sorry I cant get my voice so cute and adorble but i can wear a dress so dang well. for a girl i have a boyish voice and getting down to like a anime girl is harder then it looks. and the comment. I love Big women I love big people THEY do anmazing cosplay such as the OX king I loved the OX king adn who ever did it I HEART YOU . but it bathers me theses skinny people or others who arnt skiny look at those who are bigger then them and say oh that person fat they shouldnt cosplay or oh you need to lose weight before showing off your stomic. I feel the need to beat those who make fun of bigger people.  THOSE WHO ARE BIGGER PEOPLE I LOVE YOU AND I LOVE WHEN YOU COSPLAY <3  beside i like >> cuddling them beucseit makes me happy

^ & ^^ The only thing I have to say about that is I've talked to a couple of heavy-set cosplayers about their costumes; they weren't that great.  What they told me was that, since many people didn't like that these big guys were cosplaying as petite characters, they should stop trying.  Therefore, they didn't make much of an effort to please others, since they were never going to be able to please anyone, no matter what they'd do.  I do think that if you're going to do it, or anything, it's better to try your best, even if you know that the outcome isn't going to be sensational.

ACTING IN CHARACTER! Oh god this....this is a topic of so much debate. I personally will never act in character unless I am posing for a picture/video, for a panel and/or in a skit. I personally think I don't need to be in character any other time. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT ACT IN CHARACTER WHEN NOT IN CON SPACE. I have heard so many stories of people going to get food and acting in character and treating the normies (people not attending the con) like crap. The way I look at is this, people who don't cosplay tend to look down on us already, they don't understand, and they don't want to understand. They think we are freaks and don't belong with the rest of the population. I have seen several people stare at me in cosplay and then laugh after I pass (and this is me doing nothing other than walking, not walking funny, not running, not even talking loudly, just walking). I personally want to change this opinion and I think everyone here should as well, so why would you want to do ANYTHING that proves their point? By acting in character when interacting with others that are not at the con only reinforce their stereotypes of us and thus giving ALL cosplayers a bad name. HOWEVER, I have meet several people that have not known about cosplay and when learning about it find it really cool so there is people who don't look down on us.

There are some characters that I have cosplayed or will cosplay that are very close to my personality so acting in character just comes naturally, for example Rikku and Haruko. Both characters have very similar personalities to my own so in that case I seem like I am acting in character but really I am just acting like myself :3

I'm sorry but I personally get annoyed when people aren't in character. Especially during photoshoots. If there is a gathering specifically for that group, then you need to be in character while in that group, especially if pictures are being taken. I've made it a rule, to not take pictures of cosplayers unless they are in character at the time I'm taking the pictures. I want a picture of the person portraying that character. Not murdering what the creator so lovingly made for us to emulate.

Note: I don't care if you do the voices perfectly, but at least do the personality semi-decently. Otherwise, what's the point of wearing the costume, and cosplaying? Cosplay = Costume Play, meaning you are taking on a role. It's acting, it's fun, and it's wrong to not do your best.

Wrong?
Really?
Plenty of people wear a costume because that is fun enough. They aren't all cosplayers.
As far as your little etymology lesson, let's look at the word "play".
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/play
Seems just about even to me, maybe those other people in costume are just having "fun".
A different kind of "fun" than you have, as hard as that may be to understand.

Or maybe, just maybe, they have no idea what costume they're wearing and are only doing so at the request of a loved one. True this is a minority, but it reflects poorly on the entire community when a person dons a costume borrowed from their cousin and visits their first convention (a bewildering experience for most) and suddenly has to deal with negativity from complete strangers.

I just remeber one thing that really gets me is when you get a con stalker who finds you ever year and seems to always be there. or come up behind you and hug you. I ve had this happen to me many time with the same girl from the same cons ive been to she is a little odd herself but i am not saying its bad but it annoys me when the same people wave and say i huged you  then finds you agian and says hey i huged you over and over and over when you see the same person 10 times in one day.... I can tell she didnt wannah get my name so i was hey person ... i now you even out of my own cosplay and wearign my pjs on con floor .

I also didn't say that people shouldn't act in character at con. I just said I don't act in character unless my picture is being taken, I am in a panel, or a skit. I don't run around the con in character the whole time. If others want to do that by all means they can. I also find it extremely rude to do it to someone who doesn't understand what is going on.

I will be in character when I damn well please, and I could care less about what others think.  For the most part, I work at cons and therefore don't have the time to act like said character, unless I make the time for it.  If people don't like that, tough.

I'm not saying someone has to be in character 24/7 at a con. But seriously, the reason people like the characters is because of who they are. That's all I'm saying. I'm giving my opinion and how I feel about it. You don't have to like it, but it's just my opinion.

Not to seem ungratefull, but some times, when your CLEARLY busy, and doing stuff and have alot in your hands and some one says "Can I take your picture?" Its like, do you NOT see I am bring stuff to my car? I guess.... I love having my picture taken, and what not, when when I am in a rush or my hands are full, I like to be left alone untill I am done....

THAT! And like, being glomped over hour.... It sucks.... And Some times I got stuff in my hand that can break.

^ This. Sometimes it's really not convenient to be running glomped from behind, especially if you have breakable things in your hands, or you've been asked to hold a cosplay prop by someone else and then you've got an "oh no, I'm falling, IT'LL BREAK!!!!!! DDDD:" moment while you try to not drop the prop, not fall over, and not elbow your enthusiastic fan in the face or step on them or something.  I enjoy being glomped as much as the next person, but its really just polite to ask first, or at least make sure they're properly braced for impact and can see you coming.

I was glomped form behinds mnay tiems at con a few times someone had gotten an elbow to face .... it started to bother me becuse of a slight phobia I dont like beign touched with out know or is willing to do it myself... Trust me a bloody nose on a strangers isent to fun . It brothers me so much that i tell people before hand when i frist meet them I dislike beign touch normally at con i cant tell a person but I explect them to be infront of me so i can see. so i am alittle lesss uptight about it.

From the sounds of it, I need to run my glomp Panel at Kumoricon. >.> So that I can teach all the little cosplayers and congoers, about how to properly glomp and what's appropriate and what is not. I did that at Mewcon for three years, and it seemed to bring down the number or broken props/coslplays/male bits...

I'll see if I am allowed to do this. And if so, if I can get a panel room with enough floor space to run this event. Also need to find a stable/strong/big enough guy to be used as the test dummy. Since my boyfriend is kinda not bulky muscle, and I am always scared I'll break him.

I might be able to accomidate you in that regard if I can afford to come. Probably Day 1 would be best for me but that is just a guess based on cosplays for photoshoot ideas. Day 1 would be a good day to do it for the purpose of the panel too. PM if you're interested.

Nikkiolie makes a good point. Being in character around someone who doesn't know whats going on and/or is just doing their job (especialy if your character is somewhat of a rude person) it reflects poorly on us as a whole. Treat the people at subway, starbucks, plaid pantry, ect.. as you would if you weren't wearing a cosplay - normal and courteously. This way we are less likely to be shunned and given the evil eye at places where conventions are held. Our goal should be to make it a pleasant convention for everyone, including the non-attendees, so that we are welcomed back with open arms.

I don't think I glomped anyone that I didn't ask ;-; Well, unless they had a glomp me sign and I could tell they didn't have anything breakable in their arms. If you wear a glomp me sign, You are going to get glomped, just remember that. But seriously, randomly glomping people just cause they are in the cosplay you like isn't okay. I'm one to respect someone's personal space when they want it.

I don't remember if this has been said or not, but it's been continuously been played at my college, as well; that rainbow-pop-tart-cat-thing!

yeah, nyan cat is quite addicting but eventually the diabetes sets in. Apparently it started as a vocaloid song but was remade and put to the mindblowing adorable poptart cat.

A girl standing next to me in line was glomped and the Glomper had her hands in a fist.  This Glomper was very excited about the formentioned glomp, ran up to the glompie for the glomp and punched me in the face and knocked me into the trekkie standing next to me.  She had no idea of what she did and then ran off to glomp someone else.

Punching is bad, but the closed hand glomp is something I actually taught in my glomp safety lessons.

It prevents accidental groping of the boobs (such as if they are bound or the costume is baggy).

That's why I teach all the Glomp techniques I have learned in all my years of glomping. Anyways, Just a quick note in here to answer a persons question. Yes I'll be doing the Glomp panel.

Something else that annoys me, when people have no bloody manners towards those around them. And think that because they paid to do this event, and someone else volunteered their time to be at the event, somehow entitles them to treat the volunteer like manure.

Hey, I'm a smoker and know for a fact that most of us are some bloody polite people. We usually ask if someone minds if we smoke there. If they do mind I go somewhere else. We go to con todo the things we enjoy, and I enjoy smoking. So thusly in areas where smoking is allowed, I'm gonna smoke. If you are seriously offended by that then you should politely ask the person to step over somewhere else to smoke. You can have an opinion without being offensive.

That's another thing that annoys me. Peoe that think their opinion is the mist beautiful thing in the world. So they procee to berate me for my opinion. Which isn't right. I hope my panel at con may cut down on some of this stuff.

Oh my gosh, that bugged me so much. I saw the designated areas for people to smoke and could easily avoid them (They're easy to get to and easy to avoid, as they should be), but I kept seeing people that were leaning on pillars that were right outside the door. I have asthma, so this really, REALLY made me unhappy. I ended up not going outside much because I'd tried to cough up my lung...

Iruka, I saw you smoking once, and you were fine *nods* Though I find it funny when I see certain characters smoking. Lizzie from Black Butler? That was PRICELESS xDDD

I know there were quite a few smokers that were polite, but like I was pointing out, there were some smokers that were hanging out in the most populated areas of the con like that corner. There is always somebody who ruins it for everybody else remember, and this isn't a discussion on whether it is right/wrong to smoke.

For me it isn't a matter of opinion. If I breath someone's smoke even third hand smoke (smoke on their clothes, furniture, etc) I tend to get sick for days. I wasn't around it enough at the con to be too affected but it was still unpleasant with that smell (body odor is more pleasant to me and yes, I know that is a matter of opinion). I'm sure you would understand not wanting to feel like you have the flu every few days.

"25 feet (7.6 m) of doors, windows, or ventilation intakes" in Washington state. "10 feet (3.0 m) of the entrances, exits, or windows of such places." in Oregon state.

Personally I didn't see any designated smoking places, but I wasn't looking for them.

There was an Asuma Sensei that was actually smoking and while he looked cool, especially for pictures, it was almost painful being subjected to it. (still looking for that picture someone took of him and my friend)

Oh, another thing that bugs me at anime conventions is how during the cosplay events characters will use music and have the "needle scratching across the record" sound effect to switch between songs. I didn't go to any of these events for kumoricon so I didn't experience any (except maybe one while I was walking by the main hall), but I have seen plenty of youtube videos where people use that technique.

Something I just remembered that annoyed me very much at con this year: When you've done your time, worked your butt off volunteering, gotten your priority seating ticket or volunteer ticket, earned your right to sit in the priority seating row, been shown to your seats even....and then someone comes up (especially someone you know) and questions, to your face, your right to be sitting there, demands to see your tickets, and then takes your volunteer ticket and goes to demand a second opinion from another staff member before believing that you are allowed to sit there.

Especially when it happens TWICE. On the same day.

"The Game" and "Marco - Polo".  One year I was on the second floor mezzanine at the Hilton and the person next to me, quite literally yelled in my ear at the top of their lungs POLO!

It may not be an annoying thing, but something that does peeve me no end.  People NOT ATTENDING GOH PANELS.  The one thing that , for me at least, defines a convention, is being able to meet celebrities that I couldn't meet at any other time.  So, I go into the panel for Cynthia Martinez (English voice of Lina Inverse from the Slayers movies and Sora Naegino from Kaliedo Star among others), and there are maybe 20 people in a room large enough to hold 200.  They didn't even fill the first two rows.  I can hear tons of people in the area outside the doors making noise, yelling, screaming, I look outside the door and 90 people are just loitering around talking to one another.  WTF!  How much did we pay this person to fly out here, provide them an escort, pay for their room, and 20 people show up to see them out of over 1000, that is just wrong.  I went to her autograph session later in the day, 150 people easy.

I don't know, maybe I am just showing my age, but people who come to the con and spend the entire day in the gaming room hogging a game that they own at home, or playing an RPG. You payed admission so you could do this?

I feel terribly uncomfortable when a really young female asks if she can hug me.  I never know what to do with my hands.  I usually try to hold the small of the back in a gentle squeeze, but my arms are long enough to grab my own elbows with each hand and still have this "little kid" not feel any pressure.  When you consider that I am probably as old as, or older, than their parents, you wonder if the same kid would ever even THINK about hugging their dad that way.  I doubt it.

My daughter was in a mascot costume (Silver the Hedgehog) and had very limited visibility.  She was mass glomped to the point of almost falling down, and then actually picked up off the ground.  It scared the (bleep) out of her, she couldn't even see who was holding her.  My wife was her handler, and they actually pushed her out of the way.  Now THAT is rude.

That's crap.  I hate it when my girlfriend does that, and she does it frequently.

I agree.  Those panels are one of the main reasons for the cons, and these people are coming out hear for smaller and smaller groups, especially those that get their fame from somewhat older shows.  I really wanted to go to her panels, but had to work. :'( I've heard that she wanted to come back some time, and I hope that's true, because I'd like to meet her.

I don't know, maybe I am just showing my age, but people who come to the con and spend the entire day in the gaming room hogging a game that they own at home, or playing an RPG. You payed admission so you could do this?

I've never really thought about it, but now that you mention it, yeah, that is somewhat illogical.

I doubt it.

Not only is that rude, but it's immoral.  It's not their child, and doing things like that to her WITHOUT a parent's approval is borderline criminal!  Your wife should have reported it to a Yojimbo.  That's not cool!

i finally realized something... there was this girl who kept laughing (mockingly) at me whenever she sees me, so i was really curious why she was laughing (of course i was being friendly) so i asked her why, so after around 10-20 minutes of bugging her why, she told me in a serious face that my black rock star was either too big or in the wrong area-- i think that was 1 of 2 people that was rude to me... the other one was a panel person in the karaoke, but i could prolly understand  coz he's a panel person, but he was just plainly mock-joke my way of dancing abracadabra-- which wasnt really that bad, but i got a little ashamed of it-- XDDD i was probably too tolerant of the people around me.

The thing that annoyed me the most is when cosplayers think they are the BEST cosplayer within the convention. Seriously? My brother told me he overheard a girl bragging to this guy, who was about to take her photo, about how she's the only one perfect for that specific character and that no one can pull it off but her. Come on people...There's no competition here (unless you entered the cosplay costume contest). You might as well just have fun, make new friends, and stop stressing about how you need to be the perfect-looking cosplayer; in addition, keep your words to yourself and just go rant at home, not in public.

Another annoying thing at anime conventions: People who think they can deliberately slam into you and then yell at you for "taking up the entire sidewalk" when you're really not, just because you happen to be the only person in your cosplay group that looks like an actual girl (and not boys or boys in drag. my poor little sister).

It wasn't a cosplayer that did it, but the also did that to another member of our group when she changed out of her male costume and into a more feminine one later that day. Most non-cosplayers that you encounter are at least polite (when asking why you are dressed up), but some of them are really mean! D:

Another annoying thing: That Scion ice cream car/van thing... It looked like it was there to abduct children.

That wasn't annoying. That was just disturbing e_e I was seriously wondering when i was going to walk by it and see police officers talking to the guy in the car...

If it's the same one I'm thinking, that one scared the living [censor] out of me. I walked by it and it just gave me a weird vibe... .__.

I have no clue as to the van that you're speaking of, but it makes me wonder if it's the guy known in the Random Panel as "Creepy Van Guy."

I'm so annoyed by all the haughty cosplayers.. Seriously grow up. I'm overweight but I put EFFORT into my cosplays and I believe they look good, of course they better since I pay a seamstress to do my outfits. It may not be my personal efforts but I work to pay for my outfits I want. A lot of the cosplayers from an anime I also cosplayed from were snobs.. Not all but some were. Just because you're outfit and body type are great doesn't give you the right to be a jerk.

Also another thing that annoys me are the immature people, most of them are underage. I want to have fun at an anime convention, not be bombarded with reckless running into people, yelling, glomping without asking, etc. Nothing irks me more then a person who forgets there manners just because it's an anime convention. Sorry but anime conventions are still in a public place.

My friend gave friendly attention to a girl's shoe, she was on the floor waiting for me, because she thought the girl didn't notice it was slightly coming apart and just wanted to let her know. She thanks her and leaves. 20 minutes later her underage? friends came storming over and blew up in my friend's face saying how rude and stupid she was, blah blah blah. GROW UP. If SHE had a problem then SHE should have came over instead of hiding behing her rude friends. People... Manners... Apparently being nice is not wanted..

Glomping is a cross between tackling and hugging. It's generally dangerous, both to the person and their costume (if wearing one) ^^; If i also recall right, one of the con rules is to ask people before glomping them.

An annoying thing, is when a person who talks very loudly and they won't stop following you around, despite all the subtle hints you drop.

I find people annoying no matter what personally i don't like being around alot of people but con I do enjoy becuse of the new people i meet and It helps me get over my small phobia i have... but what really is annoying to be is when complete strangers come up to you and the group lets say your cosplaying naruto and more naruto people come to you and those people are talking about you and saying rude and hurt full things and all you can do it sit there and state.." WOW really i m right here " and it gets annyoing when those friends of yours agree with them.

That is what i find annoying at con T_T really when people talk bad about you and your right there...

This year the thing with the chair was really annoying. I agree that it was funny at first, but people took it way too far. I was sitting in front of a couple of people who were yelling out things like they were going to kill anyone who sat in the chair. THAT was incredibly rude and inappropriate.

Usually, the only issue I personally see at con is hall clogging. People stop to talk and completely block the path for others. I am more leiniante when it comes to pictures just because I know how hard it sometimes is to get to an area where a picture is even possible, and someone not wanting to miss getting a picture of someone they don't know if they will see again.

Honestly, the "I Lost the Game" thing is something I'm not too bothered by, because I only hear it at anime conventions, or among 2 of my friends I rarely hear it from. But it has gotten a BIT old

With the voice acting question, I have heard the same answer once before, and I like going to VA panels because I get inspired myself to Voice Act. But I'd HATE having to hear the SAME 20 minute answer to the SAME question over AND over AND over again.

I absolutely HATE all the cosplays being from the same series or the exact same thing. It's better to have more of a variety instead of just 1/2 of the con being Naruto, Bleach, and Kingdom Hearts cosplays.

I've been to autograph lines before, and I've only been in two EXTREMELY long ones (only one was which I couldn't get an autograph cause there's too many dang fangirls who take up 10 minutes with the guest >_>"" ) So I can feel from super long autograph lines, but I just get there super early to hopefully get my autograph, picture, maybe a small question or two, then GO. My anime convention time is LIMITED.

Personally, I LOVE The Chair, although I only participated with it for one Kumoricon. I'd love to have The Chair come back, but it is quite annoying. One of my best friends at her first anime convention got OBSESSED with The Chair ^_^'
Good News and Bad News.
Bad news is I can't go to Kumoricon the whole weekend because of costs and drivers ed.

GOOD NEWS is that if I can raise enough money I can go for Saturday all day as Espurr (Pokemon X/Y)
Hope to see you all then! <3

Oh God, defiantly the whole 'game' thing. Everytime anyone tries to tell me 'I lost the game' a little part of me dies inside, sure, I used to do it back in '09, but when I see people doing it nowadays I just kinda pause, look at them, and say nothing. I'm not the type of person who likes to be rude, but it's ridiculous how often it happens at conventions, or worse, OUT OF CONVENTIONS.

Also, that whole chair thing, it was funny at first, then it got out of hand and all and all it was rude to the performers who really went up there and tried. Then, the rest of the convention I only heard about that, it was a joke that got old for me really fast. Again, it was rude to the performers. And the way people felt the need to OVERREACT to something that was funny really ruined the whole entire joke for me. It was annoying after about an hour of hearing about it, actually, annoying after the whole room started screaming, I don't mind screaming at conventions, but maybe they should be doing it for the people who worked their butt off practicing and going up there to perform?

UGH, did I mention it was the rudest thing ever?

"the game" is sooo annoying!

Any time I heard it I responded as loudly as possible "you have won the game, you are free!"

The problem is though, this is getting just as cliche and over used as the game is :(

One thing that does annoy at anime conventions (which thankfully doesn't happen often) is when people you know or you consider 'friends' (though if it happens with random strangers do report it to a Yojimbo) literally DRAG you away from a conversation you're having so they can force you into photo ops or other things. It happened to me at a convention where someone I knew repeatedly kept grabbing me by the arm and forcing me away from the people I was talking to so they could get pictures with me or something. It's not only rude, and painful if the person grabbing you is gripping too hard or you don't move in the direction you're being pulled fast enough, but it can make the people you were talking to very concerned that something is wrong.

another thing is cosplay snobs. Not just the elitists who'll look down on you because of the cosplay you're wearing, but the ones that are from the same series, and you go to talk to them, but they basically blow you off or say "oh, I have my own cosplay group" and ignore you because you're not part of their little clique of cosplay friends that they've known forever. We go to cons to have fun, meet people, expand our friendship circles to include other people who like the same things we do, right? The least we can all do is be polite to each other. Who knows, you might be able to make some new friends.

I can see that getting annoying. If it's a group, I like to force my way in the middle and do a weird dance until they get the hint.  ::)  Just kidding; I've never had to do it myself. People usually move out of the way when I ask them to do so, but I could see me doing this if it ever happened to me.

Another thing that I find annoying are the teenage girls who wear cosplays that show off WAY too much skin.

^ I remember watching a video about an experienced con-goer counting down the top dos and donts when you go to an anime convention and one of the things was checking the person's age before you hit on them (not just as an in-character thing.) ESPECIALLY if youre over 18. I feel like the teenage girls that cosplay in stuff that shows a ton of skin are in danger of getting into a dangerous situation. It can be annoying as well. I agree.

As far as I know it wasn't to the same extent, but lots of audience members were always yelling for it. :/ I just know that whenever it came up during the cosplay contest all of us in the green room were booing hysterically.
Line up:
-Kageyama (Haikyuu)
-Cordelia (Fire Emblem Awakening)
-Marauder Ashe (League of Legends)
-??? Who knows what else. Probably a cosplay I can wear my glasses with.

random glomps.
people who act wayyyy too in character (especially with a rude or mean character)
and props that aren't silent (had a fog horn blown in my ear at scon. wasn't that awesome.....)

I second random glomps and would like to add minors that throw goldfish crackers at other people because they think it's funny. It's kind of a pain when they're bouncing the blasted crackers off your head and trying to get them down the front of your suit jacket like it's a set of goalposts. It took a lot of patience to not get upset because they probably were just being bratty and shouting wouldn't have fixed it. It's not a huge big deal complaint though. I just told the kid not to do it again because it wasn't appropriate and went on talking to someone else.

Otherwise, con was pretty good.

This was only my second anime convention, so I didn't experience anything that was particularly annoying. Maybe I'm just too easygoing.

It bothered me for a while when people kept shouting that they lost the game, but then I heard others saying they "found the game." I thought it was a funny response...

Not sure what the whole Chair thing is, but I might have heard it in the opening ceremonies.

It does irk me a little bit when I wear my Gakupo costumes and people point out that they can see my hair. I don't wear a wig cap with that wig because it makes the ponytail fall off, so I just tie my real hair back and let it show behind the actual wig. The point is, it's not that obscure that I'm not trying to hide my real hair. If I was trying, it'd probably be tied up higher than the lowest part of my head...
Hmm.. gonna have to find out when I can next go to Kumoricon. Might not be until 2019.

The whole "Your copslay is great but..." back-handed compliment.  I understand if someone is trying to be helpful but I'm talking about the ones that pretty much say your cosplay fails because of a small detail.  My fan wasn't big enough.  Fine, YOU carry my approximately 5 foot tall fan around for me and I'll get/make a fan that big.  I figured up to my my hip was plenty big.  *rant over*

Drunk people insulting my friends.  Enough said.

Any elitist behavior.  Confidence is one thing, being inconsiderate is another.
