Top 5 Costumes around the con....
« on: September 06, 2005, 10:18:09 am »
So now that it's all over and done with and we've started the reminising process, what were the top 5 costumes that you saw at the con?

Here's my list...  In the order of which I've thought of them.

1.  The moogle riding a chocobo.  It was an awesome costume and it was obvious she put a lot of work into it.  It looked amazing.

2.  Pyramid Head.  I'm still a sucker for Silent Hill cosplay.

3.  P-Chan!  ^_^  <3

4.  Ok, I don't know what character she was playing but there was this chick in yellow cat eye contacts with short blonde hair all spiked out who would randomly go into convulsions...  Whatever she was, she was nifty.

5.  Kon from Bleach.  ^_^

I could keep listing forever, cause there's a ton of other amazing costumes, but those are the ones that made a lasting impression for me.  What were your favorite costumes?

Chocomog forever. That costume was amazing and, as she told me, weighed about 30 lbs. Props to anyone who can put together a costume like that.

Chocomog, no-face and P-chan from this year stand out in my mind as the best job for difficult-to-make costumes, although I feel like I'm forgetting someone...

You mean the Azumanga Daioh Chiyo chan and the "Father" cat were really awesome...  I was just going in my own personal top five though.

Those costumes would definitely be in my top 10.

If you meant something that actually was from Fruits basket, I'm sorry I haven't watched that series yet so I don't know off the top of my head what the characters should look like

I didn't get to see very much cosplay because I was running around working on events but one of my very favorites was Fizz The Carbonated's Sakura with battle wounds. That was awesome! And I saw a couple of giant plushies too, those were also very impressive. There was one where I was like "There's a person in there? Whoa!"

In no particular order...

1) Link - You know which one I mean.   (Zelda series)
2) Pyramid Head - So creepy! (Silent Hill 2, I think?)
3) Hughes / Hughes' Daughter-in-picture-frame - Creative! (Full Metal Alchemist)
4) Kon - (Bleach)
5) King of the Cosmos' Son - Don't worry. You'll get that Katamari big enough to roll up people soon. (Katamari Damacy)

There were many others that I really liked, too, including some of the original lolita-types, Ashton (Star Ocean 2: The Second Story,) Anthy (Revolutionary Girl Utena,) and people who managed to pick up those Brain Slug Thingies from Futurama. Lots of great stuff out there this year, all!  :o

Heh, thanks.  That was dubbed the "Ass-Kicked Sakura" costume.  Someone else called it the "Pwn3d Sakura."  No one else has pictures of it up yet, but you can see my elbow in this picture: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a378/moosetoss/Kumoricon/P1010021.jpg  (That's my boyfriend as Alucard from Castlevania.  If anyone can believe it, I was also the succubus here:  http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a378/moosetoss/Kumoricon/P1010092.jpg

Hee hee hee...  I needed to go roll up all the Pocky boxes in the dealers room, and then I could go after all the markers.  Once I had those, I could get the chairs, and once I had the chairs there'd be no stopping me!  Fear me, or I shall add you to my ball o' doom!

I loved the chocomoogle.  That was freaking awesome.  And the one Angel's Sanctuary cosplayer who did the blue dress was awesome.  I've always wanted to go as that character, and she did a fantastic job.

And this is biased, but my boyfriend Alucard costume turned out bloody awesome.

1-5) The SC II crew. If anyone missed it (which I'm sure a lot did), 5 characters from SC II...kilik, xianghua, sophitia, maxi, and raphael...were roaming around on Sunday. They even did a little photoshoot in the game room with SC II on the big screen behind them. All their costumes kicked serious @$$.

You and your boyfriend were amazing! I didn't even recognize him without the costume on. It was funny. I approached him non-costume and was like 'Hey, I hope that guy dressed up as Alucard from Castlevania comes up' And he was like 'Uhm... That was me'
I couldn't have laughed harder.

I kinda remember that, but I don't remember you.  When did that happen?

There was this one girl in the dealers room who almost fell over when she found out he had been the Alucard.  That was the BEST reaction ever.  She insisted on getting pictures of him in every other costume so she could show her friends the Amazing Costume Changing Bishounen,

So now that it's all over and done with and we've started the reminising process, what were the top 5 costumes that you saw at the con?

-

In no particular order(And more like my five personal favorites. x3) :

1. The absolutely adorable Mario girls!

2. The Kyo with the crazy blonde hair, and nifty contacts.

3. Chiyo-chan and Chiyo-chichi! <3 Too freaking cute.

4. The girl with the big, really poofy red dress. I have no idea who she was, but the dress was way amazing.

5. Mana or the one Gothic Lolita with the top hat who played the part perfectly.

I'm sure I probably have many more, but those are the ones I absolutely loved. >_>;;

No -sleep- to what?!

1. Anthy
2. Link (the one that won one of the awards in the costume contest)
3. P-chan
4. Zelgadis and Xellos
5. Howl (Howl's Moving Castle rocks!)

those were in no particular order, btw.  I also liked my friend's Shelinda (FFX) costume, but I didn't think it would be fair for me to include that, since I'm obviously biased...

I for one was really disapointed that so few people entered the cosplay skits and judging.  I saw some awsome costumes wandering around that probably could have won awards had they entered...and although there were some awsome skits, I thought overall there were too few and too many sub-par ones.  Anyone have any insight?

I don't think it's cool at all to say that som eof the skits were "sub-par."  Each and every one of us was nervous as hell and gave it our all to go up there on stage and entertain you guys.  that's really not cool . . .

My faves?

1.) My fellow Silent Hill h00rs.  Goddamn it, Peter, you look eerily like Vincent and that is . . . so cool XD  And the Pyramid Heads have my heart.  My fellow nurse, Eileen, Henry, Marias, Heather, Walters . . .  I love you all!
2.) The cross-playing senshi.  I didn't KNOW they were ALL cross-play until somebody told me!!
3.) all those HUGE costumes, like Ryoga as P-chan, the big Kon, the kitty-thing that could hold like  people!
4.) Cloud, Dante' and Reno because those boys were BRAVE brave BRAVE to strip for cosplay.  And their costumes ALL rocked me!
5.) The Anthy Himemiya rosebride dress costume that was really long.
Demon nurse, la la lalalalalalala, Demon Nurse . . .

I don't think it's even a dub-only thing. I think a lot of industry people are just plain out of touch.

But can someone explain the creepy chicken thing? I don't get it.

I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to offend, I guess I just spoke without thinking...I enjoyed all the skits, I just felt there were not as many as we usually see.  I didn't mean to thumb my nose at anyone who didn't get an award!  You're all gustier than me for getting on stage in the first place.  I'll be more careful about my choice of words, next time.

Once again, sorry to have spoken without thinking, hope anyone was not too offended by my slip of the tongue.

I think we should have a right to comment on anything, but I think we should also have respect for the people who created it.  It may just be an insignificant costume to some of us, but it was important to someone else, and we should respect that.

It takes a lot of guts to get up there and do what we did, so while critique is okay labeling skits or costumes as "sub-par" is just rude.

I existed, I just ended up hanging out with my friend pussinboots in the artists alley for a good portion of Saturday when I was wearing that costume.  Plus, hardly anyone noticed I was Meryl, so I felt like I needed to wait until I had the cloak and the guns before doing that costume again.

(Actually, it was a cosplay winner who just brought up how calling any of the skits "sub-par" seemed uncool.)

Mainly, the thing I have to say here would be that if you were back there in the Green Room with all of the cosplay participants, you would have seen more up close how much effort and anxiety ALL the ones who did participate put into their cosplays.

Blackjack, I'm kinda surprised at your reaction; you ought to know what it's like. I know you've done cosplay skits before. Would you like to hear something that put down a Cosplay Contest that you worked hard to do your part for, just because the show as a whole may have felt like it didn't live up to the (fairly high, I might add) standards that somehow ALL the participants in previous years seemed to set for this event at our con? I'm sure you wouldn't.

But Rushifa had a point in that there was a lack of participation. Based on how other things were going this year at con and the volume of cosplayers, the Cosplay director was expecting to fill every skit slot, and we only got 9/16ths instead.

I think if we want to get more cosplay participants we need to be even more embracing of what people offer. Heckling = bad, even post-fact, and that's what MistressLegato was trying to get us to be sensitive about. For some people, even a walk-on is difficult, but they want to share their costume with you and participate so yay to them for going through that effort. We can still clap for them and appreciate.

On the other end of the spectrum, and to respond to the fact that a lot of people in awesome costumes didn't enter cosplay, for some who have great costumes maybe the time involved in having to go through judging, wait for the event, etc, just is not worth it to them. That's totally fine, because the main thing that congoers -should- do is make sure they're having fun.

Now, what follows is a similar comment to what a fellow staffer said about the job of staffing and how we've gotten the people involved that we have over the past couple of years to expand our staff. To paraphrase, the only way to draw more people to the event is to participate in it yourself and to have fun doing it.

When others notice that you had fun with your cosplay, that you had a great time, they'll really want to do it themselves next time. So, that's my idea on how to encourage it more.

I, for one, did it totally for fun this year and not anything else; it was my first time in a cosplay event, and I just said: "this is the year, I don't care, I have to do it. I want to show that anybody can, and I want to represent my niche fandom."

Despite the fact that I didn't get to simply hang out a lot with the other cosplayers which is usually part of the fun (I was busy doing a lot of other needed things for a large part of the time surrounding my actual stagetime, like helping with seating), I still had a BLAST.

If I can take a half hour or so out to do it even with everything else, anybody can. They just have to want to. I hope next year everybody comes and signs up!

And if the same person is the coordinator, she's very committed to making sure contestants don't have to be stuck in a small loading room for hours upon hours as has happened to her at other cons. You can still do other things on the same day as Cosplay, so that's good and I think it is one of our strengths. Yeah, there will always be some wait-time, and mandatory meetings, but its nothing compared to some other conventions.

I don't like snarking or insults.

However, if I were a cosplayer with a skit, I'd appreciate Criticism.

But only private criticism. Not something publically said.

A little friendly private criticism would help make my act better next time. But putting it out in the public  is a little hurtful.

I know I like to do a few cosplay skits and do have a little experenice in the general field(I took drama classes and was in a school play during high school).  However, most friends that I've asked are too afraid of the stage from what I can tell.  I'll admit that I'm rather nervous with just doing a monologue(a solo skit) or a walk on since then its completely focused on myself.

If someone didn't like it, I'd want to know why so I'd know what to improve. If someone can't take the thought of being criticized, their skin is too think to be a performer.

I certainly hope you aren't telling me MY skin is thin after all of the critiques I go through every day I'm at the Art Institute.

There is a distinction between blankly stating that skits or cosplayers were "subpar" and saying "I think if you had spoken louder it would have improved your skit."

As there was an apology for the misunderstanding, I don't really see the  need for further insults. such as the thickness of my skin, thanks.

I totally know how you feel, Kurimono!  My first BIG cosplay skit was at
Kumoricon 2004.  I made my costumes, my best one I spent 2 months on!  I was SOOOO nervous when I got up on stage that I pretty much just walked right across it and escaped to the backstage area!!! I was terrified!

But this year I had Arlene as my trusty companion and it was a total blast!!!

If you are really nervous, I'd totally suggest a group cosplay n_n

OOOOH another costume I LOVED was Liz's cheshire cat costume!  I was sooooo excited that she wanted to use my drawing, but when I saw the costume I about died!!!  It was soooo gorgeous!!!

@Legato
but finding a cosplay group is the hard part x_x.  I dun really meet new people very much so outside of my circle of con friends, I dun know that many people.  I did try taking part in Arlene cosplay idea for opening ceremonies, but some things that I hadn't foreseen(although should of) on saturday prevented me from taking part in that.  hopefully, I'll have better luck next year.

it was a drawing by you?  Interesting, I remember her telling me her friends convinced her to do it like a week before the con X_X.  Came out very well though.

Well, Blackjack, what I was saying was that Legato took issue with the wording because it sort of cast a bad light on the whole show, without saying anything specific that would have been constructive (not what Rushifa meant to do anyway), and that I didn't think most cosplayers, whether they felt they did good or bad, would like that everyone got blanketed under that term.

It also doesn't encourage people to be a part of the event to say that our last one was sub-par. In terms of the wording, it's all semantics really, and there wasn't any personal/pointed criticism in the comment. Rushifa had her heart in the right place, which it seemed was mainly: what can we do to make Cosplay a better event and get more participants? And get more of these awesome costumes we've been talking about to do skits or walk ons!

As for personal criticism, the main thing about that is you shouldn't give it unless it's asked for. Kumoricon asks for feedback, so give us all you got, it's fine. Mary Jane Cosplayer might not have. Don't say the negative things unless someone wants to hear them and improve from them because if they don't want to hear them it just doesn't do anybody any good, whether you're right or not, ne? ^__^

Thought about it for awhile but here's some of my top 5.  It was hard to pick out only 5 from all those costumes so these are more costumes that stuck out in my mind.  ^^

(In no order)
1. Hermione (Hooray!  I was so happy when Lizzie said she would wear that ^^)
2. Kon (That thing must have been hot to wear all weekend)
3. No Face (thought that was very original)
4. Zabuza (loved the knife)
5. Pyramid Head (whoever wore it and whenever)
And so much more.

And as a small side note: (No connection to the discussion taking place)
That was the very first time I have ever performed a skit in front of a crowd that large.  ^_^  That was fun.

Eerie:

It's so great to hear that even the con chair had time to get involved in cosplay and do a skit. You have no idea how much this encourages me to attempt to enter next year. 30 minutes??... Heck yeah, I'll get involved, if you managed to do it with less than 3 hours spent within the duration of the con!!

5 favorites:

As for my favorite 5 cosplays... man, I just can't narrow it down that far.  I ran the on-site portion of the Hall Cosplay Contest, so I saw so many good costumes it isn't even funny.

However, Chiyo-chan and Chiyo-chichi definitely stood out, because 1. they were unbearably cute, 2. despite claiming they were "rushed," I don't remember seeing anything that looked unfinished or out of place, and 3. Chiyo-chan gave out cookies. While singing the "tsukurimashou" song. And they were damn good cookies, to boot. So cuuuute. ^_^

Some other highlights, just to name a few, and I mean only the slightest few: Alucard from Castlevania, a very flashy Sephiroth, P-chan with the awesomely constructed head, and Sophitia from Soul Calibur 2 with her simply excellent sword and shield props made from real wood and some metal, too, and finally the entire collection of extremely complex costume designs from Exodus: Faded Spirits.

You all inspired me, among others. :)

There were many others that I really liked, too, including some of the original lolita-types, Ashton (Star Ocean 2: The Second Story,)

Whee, that's me. :D Although admittedly my Ashton costume is definitely not new. But it's always nice to be noticed (and recognized, even).

I'm not sure, but I think there were multiple Pyramid Heads. They're definitely from Silent Hill, but I'm not sure which one -- I thought SH4, because my friends did a Silent Hill 4 group cosplay (comprised largely of fake blood and other gruesome makeup).

I can't remember who did what, but I do remember two good ones.

1) One Wolfwood cosplayer who was really good about detail....made the costume verily awesome.

2) Panda's costume from that Dreamcast game that I can't remember quite right. I'm a BIIIG sucker for detail. Good job!

I know that there were a LOT more, but those were really the only two that I could really remember ^^; forgive me lol

Well, if someone doesn't want to critisms (many people don't), and take insult, they're less likely to follow your advice...I mean, if you feel insulted, you sometimes dig your feet in and refuse to change.  I think if someone's happy with their costume/skit as it is, and they're not interested in making changes, we should leave them to their happiness.

I'd like toe explain myself a bit more, so you guys can get a bit more context to my hasty statement, espeucally since it seems to have caused suck a stir.  *still feels guilty*

I was trying to be quick with my comments, since my main goal was to find out why people hadn't entered the costest.  I have a friend who was a judge, and we were both kinda miffed about the small number of people on stage, especually since we'd seen lots of great cosplays roaming the halls.  Also, I've heard they didn't give out all the awards (I think there was no best of show) because there simply were not enough skits to make a fair judge.  And basically, I thought it would be less painful to not be too specific, since this way I wasn't pointing my finger at anyone in particular.  It could definately have been worded better, and I wish now I had read through it before posting, but there's nothing I can do now.

My main disapointment with the contest, beside the lack of entries, was that some of the skits, while having good concepts, did not seem as rehearsed as they could have been.  There were some skits that were presently suprising, and others that I didn't understand because I hadn't seen the series/s, but I don't think any of them were bad.  The sub-par comment was meant to be directed to the lack of participants, not the skits and cosplayers who did enter.  Sorry for all the confussion.  This is why I shouldn't type up posts when I'm dead tired.

Back to the topic, I was impressed by the number of Inuyasha costplays who actually had his sword.  Props are always awsome to see.

I pretty much got your meaning and intention from the start; no harm, no foul, no fault. Love you Rushifa. <3

As to why there were awards that were not awarded... I happen to know for a fact that that was actually not because there were not enough skits entered that were worthy enough to give awards to. Just, some of them did dumb things and were disqualified because they didn't clear things with the coordinator, and that was sadness. Remember! Always clear everything that you think even MIGHT be a problem with the cosplay coordinator! Also, read your paperwork! Solves all the fussy-worry. ^_^

And @ Radien:

As for my 30 min comment, please do keep in mind that as my costume was not judged for technical aspects since I didn't sew it myself, and because we did not stage-rehearse, that shaved another half-hour at least off of the cosplay-involved time. Eventually I will do cosplay in a costume that is worthy of a meeting with the judges, but I had a ton of other obligations this year and needed to keep the time down to bare minimum anyway. Still, I don't think there was any one person who spent more than two hours of non-event time on the Cosplay this year, unless the judging took a lot longer for some than others. It was definitely a ton shorter than last year's judging.

I luv cosplay. *hugs all*

A common misconception, that. XD

We do not squee with delight at the gore. I myself prefer Japanese-made horror over American-made horror on the whole because it ~doesn't~ make so much use of gratuitous gore (with a few notable exceptions I can think of, of course- when the Japanese do make a gore-fest they do it to the HILT). Anyway, it is also the depth of storyline and characterization in Silent Hill which holds us. We may enjoy horror, but our love of Silent Hill is due to many factors, and the horror elements are by no means the entirety of the story.

And considering how many people seem to have thought the Pyramid Heads were AWESOME (and they -were-), there might be more Silent Hill fans out there than you think. Truthfully, I was surprised how many people even got the Silent Hill skit. I half expected to hear crickets chirruping. XD

Yeah, I heard about that, it really was unfortunate.  One of my favorite skits was disqualified  :(

I felt sorry for Bakazoku, having to cover all that time while the judges were deciding...which I'm sure wasn't made any shorter by the unfortunate disqualifications.

Um, I would have recognized you from across a crowded room. ;) But alas, I caught no glimpse of the Chrono costume from Chrono Crusade. I did see Sister Rosette at the Cosplay Contest... did you get pictures with her?

It seems that all the Chrono Crusade fans are at Sakura Con. There were three or four pairs of cosplayers from that anime at Sakura Con, all Rosette and Chrono. I don't know whether there were any Azmarie's or other chara.

Everybody really should at least try out Chrono Crusade. It's good, clean fun: a very balanced mix of action, drama, and comedy for the typical anime audience of ages 16 and up, both male and female alike.

Oh, definitely! Don't worry, I didn't plan on spending a measly 30 minutes rehearsing/getting ready/whatever, I just meant that if the con chair could manage to find the time to get on stage, then that must mean that the process was pretty streamlined. ;)

I do have an idea for a skit that's bit sitting in the back of my head for over two years now: one which involves a pre-recorded CD, no microphones, and practically any mixture of cosplay characters as long as they're reasonably well-known. Unfortunately, the huge time commitments required for participating in cosplay at Sakura Con and a general lack of nearby potential "teammates" has kept me from trying it. Well, let's see if I manage to construct a team for next year... :P I've certainly wanted to try it for awhile.

True, you female Silent Hill fans did not "squee." But it was still quite eerily cute, seeing a bunch of girls wearing stubble make-up and darkened eyes and ratty hair, all hugging and falling asleep on eachother's shoulders. ^_^;

Oh, the thing is, Eerie, that it doesn't take much to "get" a joke about a horror video game. The commercials alone reveal no less than half of the cliche`s we've come to expect. ;) Plus, I'm sure most of us have played at least ONE horror video game in our lifetimes. All I've seen in person (not counting the cinema clips you showed me from SH4) was a couple of excerpts from Resident Evil 2.

Also, so there WERE two Pyramid Heads? Yeah, I knew the dating game contestant borrowed parts of a friend's costume, but I THOUGHT I'd seen two different sets of bloody clothing to go along with the Pyramid Heads we all saw in the halls...

Okay, sorry this is getting to be so long. One more reply.

Rushifa and Blackjack:

The thing is, what is the point of criticism?... Usually it's either for A. the chance for the critiqued to self-improve, or B. a way of informing other patrons of what they're in for.

Well, it's not like we're paying these people to do skits for us, so scratch B.

Now, as for critiquing for improvement, what if the group already knows very well what went wrong and could have been better? What if they don't plan on doing the skit again? Or if they don't even plan on entering again as a group at all?

If your critiques are falling on deaf ears, you might as well leave them unsaid. For example, if you thought Skit A wasn't so hot, a simple "Skit A was okay, but Skit B took the cake for me" should suffice. It's simply a bit of entertainment, it's over; anything that went wrong most likely didn't kill you... so you might as well remember the good skits rather than call attention to the bad ones.

Did you go to the Dating Game?  If you did, Pyramid Head was the girl who spoke in the high squeaky voice and made many references to blood and gore.

God. That was SOOO much fun. A Pyramid, a nun, and a skank.

Why does it sound like the words "walks into a bar" should follow the sentence?

@Hige
I know about Chrono Crusade.  ^_^  I've been reading the manga even before the series finished in Japanese.  Unfortunately I didn't see a Chrono walking around.  Were you Full Demon Chrono or Little Boy Chrono?

@Rushifa
From what I heard, they didn't have anyone to give the (I just know I'm going to mess up on the title) Young Children awards because... well, there weren't any young children who participated.

Yay! Us Exodus peoples made the list ^_^ ! *was adult Mya, the catgirl with the brown dress with the flame design and jingly sashes* We were pretty happy about the con, all 5 of the characters that were cosplayed earned hall cosplay awards.

....  um wow.  this was so not what i intended when i started this thread.

ok so, my opinion on this whole issue of the cosplay itself, I thought the skits (even the disqualified ones), did a very decent job.  Having been a part of a cosplay in the past, I know it's not easy, especially if it's your first time on stage.  A lot of people were going up on stage for the first time that night, and I give them all lots of hugs for being that brave.  Lots of skits are put together on the fly.

I know some skits are meant to be a little more improvisational than others, and some run on a definite script.  I know of at least one script where lines were flubbed, but the rest of the cast picked up the slack and moved the skit along as if nothing bad had happened...  And that's just what happens in theater all the time, and when it still works even with the hiccups, it's awesome.

I wasn't a part of the cosplay this year, as I really didn't have a costume due to lack of funds.  Instead, I made due with my street clothes and a pair of cat ears so at least I didn't feel left out of the spirit of the con.  ^_^  But I give TONS of respect to anyone willing to walk around the hotel/lloyd center/downtown Portland in costume on any day...  there are tons of people who aren't so brave.  And going up on stage is a totally other issue, because there's a lot of people out there with stage fright.  So, tons of respect and love to anyone who's willing to stand up on stage and entertain me for 5 minutes or less.  ^_^  I know I get nervous when I have to go up and perform for people.  It's not the easiest thing in the world to do.

So, you know, I think that the skits this year did very well.  I'd really love it if some of those people came back next year with more ideas for cosplay and put on more skits for us.  The only complaint I really had is that through many of the skits, I had a difficult time hearing what was being said from my seat waaay in the back.  But I know, especially if it's someone's first time on stage, not everyone knows how to effectively use voice projection,  knows to face the audience when speaking instead of facing each other, or knows the best place to stand so that the microphones will pick up the voices.  And that's ok.  I could still figure out basically what was going on enough to still enjoy the sketches.

So, yeah, it would have been nice if more people would have done cosplay on stage, even just for walk ons, but I can understand that there are people in the world that are stage shy...  And that's ok.  Maybe through love and acceptance we can give some of these people the courage they need to take the stage next time around.

Anyway, back to the original purpose of this thread...  Show some love to the cosplays you saw around the convention!  What were your top 5 favorite costumes?
Take a chance 'cause you might grow

MistressLegato, are you, in fact, a Silent Hill fangirl?  I had heard rumors of a legendary sect of gamer girls who squeed with delight at the gore, but until this moment, I had assumed that they were mear myth, like guys on Journalfen.

I consider myself a GIGANTIC Silent Hill fanh00r.  I have written theories about SH that have taken 2 to 3 months of studying up on symboulism, etc. to formulate  XD

And I squealed with joy at Pyramid Heads and Vincent and the WALTERS!!  I was soooo excited to see Walter cosplay XD

So yeah, I squealed, but not at the gore.  I love, like Arlene said, that Japanese horror is LESS about the gore and more about the psychological brain screwing.

I must say, the female Walter pwnd me.  She was short and adorable, but when she wasn't smiling I could totally believe she was thinking of making me a sacrament.

I started watching anime by catching "Lensman" in a theater in Osaka while I was in Japan.  That was many moons ago and I have been to many game/sci-fi/fantasy cons that had a small group of con goers that did costumes.

Kumoricon blew me away with the number and variety of cosplay!  It was an awesome con.

Top five that I liked....     man, its hard to choose!

1. Sumomo - that was an excellent costume that you could tell had a lot of time in it.

2. No-face was very well done!

3. One of the Hellsing costumes that also did the teeth and makeup.  (Not my style of anime - but it was still good for details.

Too many others that I didn't recognize...

Now I have to get working on something for next year!

Well, first of all, I'd like to state this was my first con, and I surely wasn't disappointed! ^_^

The best costumes? Hm....

1. Pezzer's Hughes. The facial hair was an incredible addition. It was almost exactly what I think Hughes would look like in real life. Btw, what stance is Pezzer on the staff? I keep hearing his name mentioned around, but seeing as this was my first con, I'm rather clueless. *feels like a newbie*

2. The Anthy cosplay was awesome. I actually saw Utena for the first time today, and was pleasantly releaved of my feelings of ignorance concerning the origin of that cosplay.

3. The Hughes/Hawkeye cosplay. The pose they did was classic. "Nuf said.

4. The Cross-playing sailor scouts. They're unfforgetable.

5. The Faye residing in the halls on Saturday. That was an excelent one too.

Man, I could go on forever...

Oh, if anyone recognized me, I was the Zorin from Hellsing. My outfit would have been more complete had my scythe been ready and had I cut my hair, but oh well.

3. Roy Mustang in skirt (LOL I remember spitting out the water I was drinking when he came trotting down the hallway) *Roys my fav. character*

*glomps* I made number three! And you were actually there on monday! *glomps again*

~Roy in a skirt
Kumoricon 2005 I went as Roy Mustang and wore a skirt on Monday with a note saying "I lost a bet with Hawkeye" attached to it, hence the username.

But you're not going to know if they're going to fall on deaf ears until you SAY them, right? We're not psychic.

Wow. You all seriously need to chill. The person already apologized and said it was unintentional. Yet still you go on and on about it.

Get over it already and quit being so childish.
