Kumoricon 2011: Bad/Creepy/Downright Weird Moments
« on: September 05, 2011, 11:39:38 pm »
I was just curious to see if anyone else had any bad, or just weird moments during the con; broken cosplay, creepers lurking, etc.

I guess I'll start!

This year, nothing too disastrous happened during the convention. Everyone was nice and friendly, the location was great, and it all was just amazing. But there's always this one guy who creeps us out a little too much, yea?

This year, I ran into my first con attendee that crossed the line of being a fan to a pedophile. So I was walking to my car to put away some purchases, by myself, and at the crosswalk, this guy comments on my costume. I say thanks, and attempt to move on, but then he continued talking and mentions a Sailor Moon cosplayer. Trying not to be rude, I stayed and listened, and he started saying some pretty vulgar things and what he would do to her if saw her, most along the lines of sexual assault (the word 'rape' was included in his description...). Disturbed, I quickly crossed the street and ignored him. when I was by the parking garage, I could see a hotel employee or con staff talking to him and I heard the guy trying to defend himself and trying to pull it off as a joke. I think he had his badge taken away/told to leave the con space. Least to say, I was/am worried about all the Sailor Moon cosplayers I saw, and I will definitely watch my back more often at cons.

well, I was waiting in line on day 2 for an autograph from David Vincent, and this pokemon cosplayer was in front of me and having a battle by himself. Then he kept getting really close to these 2 girls in front of him and talking to himself, pretty sure he had some kind of problems, I felt really bad for him AND the 2 girls, weird but sad  :(

Well when my friend and I were waiting in line for registration on Day 0, this creepy hobo that REEKED of beer came up to us and started rambling about stuff. We couldn't understand a word he was saying but i did hear him ask my friend if she was Japanese and i swore i heard him ask if he could touch her. I really wanted to run and find a staff member to help but i didn't want to ditch her there. Luckily, the Hilton manager [or at least i think. he looked very fancy XD] came up and escorted the creep away. And the fancy manager man even came back and asked us if we were okay! Mad props to that guy. He sure saved us!

Pretty sure I creeped the hell out of a girl when I asked her if she lived in the same town as me.  I worked at a retail store in a small town for almost 6 years and I would see her all the time. XD

The people from that Oxfest or whatever kind of creeped me out.  :\  I was getting a lot of whistles and hollers when I walked through the park.  I was more than happy to oblige them with some humor, but it did get a bit old. ^^;

There were some creepy hobo guys walking around the park on one of the days. They were calling the cosplayers "freaks" and were saying a lot of bad things. HATERS GONNA HATE.

hahahaha. I think I saw that guy. Pretty sure he was yelling it at me, too. I didn't even dignify him with a glance. Apparently it must have pissed him off because he made sure to yell it several more times in the hopes that I would look over at him.

My con experience was pretty good. I had some good times and bad times.

Well. I remember waiting in line for Todd Haberkorn's signature, there was a guy behind us just COMPLAINING the whole time, saying rude things. Like..: "Why is it taking soo long?" "Can't Todd hurry up?" "The staff suck at this!" and stuff like that. And he said something rude to my sister, which I forgot what he said. =/ That's about the only bad time that made me irritated, besides the fact it was hot this year. X.X

I have a few. I also had a good con experience overall but with some very creepy people here and there.

One was while walking from the Hilton to the Red Lion at night with my friends, and a creepy guy riding past us on a bicycle said "it's past kiddie's bedtime" to us. We're all in our 20s. We're not exactly kids. It was just very, very odd and uncalled for, and if he meant it as a joke, the way he said it had no hint of humor, it was just....flat.

Also, while walking back to our hotel the following night, a rather dilapidated old van with random numbers and things painted on it drove past. The windows were all tinted totally black so you can't see inside. After I stared at this thing for a moment, it began to play horribly creepy music, sort of like an ice cream truck but slowed down. After it passed us, it turned around and came by us again. We really wanted to get the hell away from that thing, LOL. We can actually look back on it and laugh because of how random it was, but at the time it really bothered us.

And lastly....normally I don't like to talk badly about people on forums, I HATE drama and I never seek to cause any, but these people are asking for it. About to enter our hotel, two guys in costume walked up to us, one was all decked out in American flags and the other was sort of like a stereotypical depiction of a Middle Eastern person. The American flag guy started asking us if we had seen his friend who is a ninja. I noticed a third guy standing a few feet away with a camera, so I figured they were trying to get funny reactions from people for a youtube video. I kind of wanted to play along so I said, "if he's a ninja, how would I have seen him?" well the American flag guy continued to rant very quickly and borderline incoherently, and I then heard him throw out the phrase "We all know he loves some p***y, so we thought you might have seen him."

Now, this guy was a complete stranger to me. You do NOT walk up to me if you don't know me and start using language like that. You just don't. At that point the conversation stopped being humorous to me, the smile vanished from my face, and my two friends and I stared at the guys dumbfounded as they continued with a clearly scripted (and not funny) rant. The second guy would occasionally pop in with babbling in a fake language that was supposed to sound Arabic. My friends and I were not in the mood to deal with them so we just walked away. As we did, American flag guy started to shout something about "it's not gay, it's definitely not gay!!" So there you have it: rudeness, misoginy, racial insensitivity, and homophobia all wrapped up in a nice little package.

I honestly hope these people are reading this post. Whatever little video project you're working on there, guys, it's not funny. Comedy ain't your thing, so don't quit your day jobs.

my friend was wearing a Kaolla Su cosplay and she had her giant banana with her...Some strange guy on a back was like making weird faces at the back of her head and licking his lips and his eyes got REALLLY WIDE..and then to top it off he said "Monkey like Banana" and was heavy breathing...WTF So our group went back tot he Hilton and a few minutes later he rolled up outside and started chilling by the window. Eventually hotel security went outside and presumably started to speak to him.
the truth is I really wanted to point at my friend and do a Shaquita voice and be all like "Sorry monkey but she likes vajayjay"
When I am chasing my tail and catch my back leg instead, I will not bite down on my foot. This hurts, and my scream scares my human.

I wouldn't really say bad, per say, but kinda a...damper? I was in a room (idr which one, most of my con was spend exhausted and out of it), and there was a group of girls behind me sketching. and for some reason, the topic of pornography/porn in general (both yaoi and yuri and het) came up in their chatter. I love hearing other people's ideas and takes on it, so I shamelessly eavesdropped.

One girl was saying how she'd been exposed to materials like that when she was fairly young, and another said "it was about the sixth grade for me!" and I silently chuckled (this was about when I got into it), remembering oh my god it's like me when i was their age!!!!. Well, the girl next to them heavily frowned and basically said...oh god. It was "The younger you are exposed to pornographic materials, the more it'll screw you over later on in life."

And the girls chuckled a bit, thinking she was joking around, but the girl was like "no, I'm serious. It screws you over psychologically and makes it VERY hard for you in later life, and you're basically RUINED because of it."  I really was shocked because...almost everyone I know, both friends and FOAFS (friends of a friend) have been exposed to pornography/nudity/sex whatever at a young age and we turned out just fine. plus, it was their lives, not hers, y'know?

Almost everything she said after that was a negative mannerisim, too. :|| She also got into a mini rant about how "SLASH IS NOT CANON" (and she sounded serious business about it) and just generally was kinda....a damper. That was the only time I saw her, but really? Even if it's your personal belief, don't shove it on other people.

As for creepy moments, just the same creepy van Kayu1111 talked about/those youtube guys/the biker.

the one called uboa moon

On Monday I moved my car since it had to be out of the garage by 1. It was about a block away from the park - so it wasn't too far off and there were no people.
I forgot something in my car and was walking there alone.  When I'm almost there, I see these two guys pull up in their car and park next to the sidewalk.
I kind of glance at them, but notice that they're staring at me. I was just in a Superman T-shirt and some shorts - nothing odd really, so I got kind of suspicious.
Right after walking around the corner, I fast-walked / jogged to my car only about 30 feet down the road, and got in.
I kind of laughed that I was being paranoid, but sure enough, the two men I saw in the car walked into the intersection they last saw me going.
I'm pretty sure they were looking to mug me since they were looking for "something" pretty intensely before they ran back to their car and drove off.

They had nothing to do with the con itself, but still pretty sketchy.

Ive got a few. On day0, my lil newcomer was standing behind me and my boyfriend when a drunk guy came up, in the middle of the day and he was obviously hammered, and started like asking us for change and money. Then i swear i heard him ask my friend for her to come drink with him. She was 16, but looked about 12. Then to top it off, on day 2, my boyfriend was a heavy so i took him over to a group of scouts and people to get a picture. These awesome people were there that i had been dying to get a picture of, they were zombies. So i say to my boyfriend that im gonna go get a picture, and this old woman steps into our path and starts asking my boyfriend to lick her scabs off her arms and then when he almost punched her for grabbing his face, i stepped in and told her to back off. She then asked me which scab i wanted to eat and tried to shove her elbow into my mouth. My boyfriend pushed her back and told her to leave but she wouldnt so we left and told security. I dont know if they got her out of there.

The fail troll guys with the video camera and the American flag guy, fake Arabic guy were most likely not our attendees, we asked them to leave the con space a couple times for not having badges and I saw the Hotel security escort them off the Hilton property.

Only have a little thing for this, about to have dinner stopped in bathroom and when I went into the stall, another girl in bathroom called me by a different name so I wasn't sure at first she was talking to me, and wanted to ask me a bunch of questions and I am like "uh just a sec I am busy"

Just ya know while in the rest room, if you got a question (unless its pass me some TP) it can wait for the hand washing faze of the process.

  Really REALLY bad guy crossplayers.

I don't care if you guys want to do it but do it RIGHT.
Yes, we women crossplay all the time but we bind our chests to the point that we can't breathe or bend. The least you guys and do is SHAVE.

In general, a lot of creepy old Otaku randomly starting irrelevant conversations with my adorable and unfortunately naive friend.
She may no get it, but I do. Do not speak unless spoken to.

Not thirty seconds after I first arrived at the convention, an old man and non-con-goer demanded that I help his friend with his face paint (I was going as Kyoshi Warrior Suki) and that he needed my makeup. I tried telling him the only makeup I had was on my face, and that the same would be for most anyone else at the con, and he cried out, "Well, then what am I supposed to do?"

I slowly walked away...

While waiting for our ride these guys approached us aswell. They were talking about how they got kicked out of the con and how they were looking for their ninja aswell. We mostly played along until they ran out of things to say. It was humorous, but also made me a little uneasy since we were away from Hotel constaff, around people who had supposedly been kicked out of the con? In the end I assumed it was just an act to cheer up three bored looking people sitting on the side walk.

I saw the troll guy at the red lion, I did not know he was ghosting the con; Now I am worried I going to be passed on some schlock jock’s blog.. As for identity I say monitor attentive press blogs and shock radio jocks shows.
It is not uncommon to hear about such shenanigans pulled by shock jocks at furry convections. They often feel the need to sneak in with badly done costumes and  always shown the door.

I only had one creepy moment on day 3. Me and my friends were standing near a path in the park when the guy walking around calling us all freaks walked past screaming "FREAKS! YOU GUYS ARE FREAKS!! MEGA FREAKS" Blah blah blah. Then not even 5 mins later he comes back with a small purple flower he just picked, walks up and hands it to me saying: "I know it's not much, but I picked it just for you" I didn't know what to say so I just thanked him. He smiled and left after that.

I hope I didn't creep out the Cloud and Zack crossplayers I saw napping on Saturday night.

You guys were just too cute like that to not take a pic.

I had plenty of moments of my fellow attendees getting on my nerves or saying things I thought were tacky but that's nothing new. The only time somebody got a little too weird was a drunk Etzio outside the Hilton right after this picture was taken.

This one wasn't towards me but my friend. We were in the bathroom and my friend notice a girl looking at her shoe thinking maybe she didn't know what was going on, so my friend said something about that is was the bottom of her shoe and the girl said I know I was just looking at it. She does her thing and leaves, no problem. Then 20 minutes later, I was styling and curling my hair, her two friends come in all B....y like saying how rude it was for my friend to say that and just plain complaining. I'm not sure if these people were underage but my gosh chill, it wasn't like she said anything to hurt this girl, she was just letting her know what was going on thinking she didn't know. (my friend was sitting on the floor waiting). Please, people, get over yourself... If she was bothered SHE should have said something.

This one was towards me. I was told I needed to have a bandage over my eye for the character, well you know what, there was a time when she didn't have one.. People chill out.

And I didn't feel welcomed at all at the BB shoot.. So I left. :/
I wish people were more friendly, just because the character may not be friendly doesn't mean you personally as a person shouldn't be... BE NICE PEOPLE.

Rude comments made by people and you know what most of them were made by underage kids.. Grow up a little please. Just because something isn't perfect doesn't mean you should complain about it. And the darn chair thing at closing. GAAAHH.. That was annoying, it's darn chair. :/ At first it was funny but it got old real fast.

Besides that I had a great time. :)

Some point around the Pokemon photo shoot some lady walked past us muttering "Are you an American?". But she didn't seem to be talking *to* anyone, which was the strangest part.

Also I apologize if I creeped out the girl with the pokeball shirt who was sitting with her mom. I didn't mean to be creepy, just funny, but realizing you were probably underage (I couldn't see your badge in advance) made me realize that you might not have taken it that way. See, I'd been going around to all the Pokemon people going "Liberaaaaaation~" and that's why I made a joke to you that it was awkward that I couldn't do that to you since the pokeballs were on your chest...didn't think it through, sorry.

just had a serious fml / epic facepalm moment.

I was at the store buying groceries since I needed to stock up after not having shopped in awhile because of con.  Who walks right past me as I'm talking to my friend?  The same girl I'm pretty sure I unintentionally creeped the *bleep* out.  To make matters worse, she walked right down the aisle I needed to go down. I intentionally tried to creep Jon Bressler out but he was too...hydrated...to notice. i smushed my face up against his hotel room window an did like some heavy breathing and made the window get all foggy...He was sitting right next to it but couldn't see me so all his friends started laughing and he just ignored it...:(

Definitely the guy on the bicycle after the second rave. I was in my Kingdom Hearts OC cosplay, and he had this huge habit of following me. It was really creepy, bad enough that I asked a friend to walk me back to my room. So that I'd be safe. Then when I had to dead back to con, the guy was still there. Followed me on his bike, and made rude comments. I tried to shrug it off, but when his friends started talking about how he wanted to do things (sexually) with me, I went "I'm sixteen." which is a total lie to anyone that knows me. And what he said made me shudder. "Doesn't matter to me, if there is grass on the field it's open play."

I had a serious WTF moment with that.

Also, all the stuck up cosplayers. I had a small handful of buddies that actually spent any time hanging out with me. I seriously got to learn who really is a friend to me, this con. I'm not helping people anymore, and not being a counselor for their little bickering things anymore. I'm tired of putting myself forward to help others, and then get told "Oh sorry we are too busy to hang out now. Thanks for -insert whatever I did for them here-."

Also, I'm going to openly state this. The Locke Cosplayer (spelling?) From Final Fantasy. When the Final Fantasy group gathered for pictures on Sunday, your photobombing was NOT appreciated. You rather annoyed the man with the sword, and your constant need to get in on everything was a pesky and rather bothersome thing. Also, you were very creepy. For the SECOND time I've met you. Stop following me around con. I am NOT the voice actress for Lust, and don't you EVER glare at me like that again when I tell you not to do something. That photographer wanted a picture of Reno only, not you. You aren't even from the same numbered series. You weren't hot, so stop posing like a stud, and you weren't funny with your constant stealing of things. You were annoying. I swear if you stalk me ever again, I'm reporting you to the Yoji.  (Also if Reno reads this, Nova loves you and misses not having hung out more. <3)

Saw the same bum walking around in the middle of the glomp circle at the park on the evening of day 2. Fortunately he wandered away and the circle returned to normal. Though I'm sure a good chunk of people walked away quickly to secure their things, I know I did.

with all the weird creepy hobos i completely agree, they were harassing pretty bad.

im sure some emo kid some place thinks im an [redacted] now,but here was my bad moment welli guess a 'meh" moment,i was with 2 friends who are a bit innocent and timid looking.so naturally people try to be know it all jerks and condescending jerks to them, these were what i call bad hetalia fans,i know many hetalia fans, none are like this.[i know nothing of this series so no idea if germany looks like schrodinger]

my friend was dressed as schrodinger from hellsing, canon schrodinger, you know no point in being an actor even for cosplay if you do not go 100%,well first they mistook her as germany?no idea how,and started going on and on about how germany does not have the millenium arm band[schrodinger wears a nazi uniform, its what the character actually wears because he works for a faction of them in modern day called millenium for those who do not know,i see nothing wrong with acting as a character or a soldier in a re-enactment at all,its real nazis that are disgusting and killed my ancestors]we explained that she wasn't germany.and explained that that is the actual characters costume and that shes a cosplayer not a nazi, well they kept going on and on again and after 2 days of weird park harasser hobos previously i was at the end of my rope,so after they refused to listen to her and kept going on and on,i started being a douche,i admit it,but it made them leave lol and it was only with the use of words.

but it was like 5 minutes of harassing and completely ignoring everything she said even telling them to go look up a picture...they were trying to take a picture of my girlfriend but keep themselves there asking a billion questions with some snide remarks at the other friend here and there,it was the most unprovoked wtf thing ever, the other person who asked we told them the same thing and they looked up a picture of the character and apologized.

i guess it was more of just a strange passive agressive stubborness and unwillingness to listen than anything, but after like 5 minutes you would think they would just look it up,especially with an arabic cosplayer standing by her.i mean it wasn't terrible, but it was just kind of strange considering everyone else was ok with looking up the character and apologizing for assuming badly, all but those people.

My creepy moment was kind of weird. There was this guy in the park, I don't know if he was a con attendee because I couldn't see his badge but he was in what looked to be a Shippuden Choji cosplay, came up to me and in an indirect way asked me if I had any alcohol or weed, which is really odd since I'm only 20 and don't even look of legal drinking age. Then he kept trying to ramble on and make sure that I didn't have anything, and after I finally started leaving he moved on to a new target, presumably to ask them the same thing.

Also this isn't necessarily bad, but just disappointing: all the people who essentially tried to throw themselves into Cosplay Chess. First off, unless you are in the fight or summoned onto the board, stay off of it. There were quite a few moments where people just decided to run onto the board and help out with the fights, despite not being summoned. A prime example is one of the fights with Terra(I forget who he was fighting though), about 5 characters suddenly jumped onto the board to defend the other piece and made it chaos. Second off, don't interrupt the game to give additions that you think are necessary. A little bit of heckling is fine, especially if it is from the pieces or the chess masters since that is part of the show, but don't go overboard like people did this year. And especially when it came to giving the white Mokona weapons every minute. We get it, a Mokona with a weapon is funny. But you don't have to walk onto the stage in the middle of the show just because you think they should have one weapon over another. If you're a piece and want to have them wield your weapon after you die, that is more acceptable. Audience members jumping up and giving a piece a weapon, or god forbid a freakin' chair, is not okay. /endrant

I've also heard other baaaaaaad moments from friends, but I don't want to say anything about those.

This isn't bad, but funny.

I was staying at the Red Lion, and all of the pop machines on the first floor were sold out.

I head up to the second floor, get the the pop machine there, put my first fiver in it, rejected. Same for the other two I had. Since I had no singles, I go to the front desk.

No that I have singles, I am ready to get delicious soda. Pop the first single in. Success. Try putting the second in. It won't take it. It wont take any bill. I hit the coin return button and get four quarters. I head to the dealer's hall to feebly as for change. Sakura-Con changes my dollar for me, and it's back to TAKE WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE.

All eight quarters go in with no problem. I want a Sprite. Sold Out. Fine, Coke. Sold out., Diet, Sold out. I push EVERY BUTTON FOR SODA, and at this point and fine with a friggin' Dasani. No Dice. I hit the last button for a Full Throttle. It dispenses.

I take the drink and leave, dejected the carbonation gods mocked me.

Generally I had a grade A experience, but there was one odd moment.  No costumes will be named, to protect the innocent.   :-\

While I was in the park, a man came up to me and complimented me on my cosplay, then told me he had a favorite pairing for the character and asked if I would let him take pairing photos.  I told him I would be glad to if he could find someone cosplaying the other character in the pairing.

Within moments, he was back, towing a puzzled but very friendly young man, and eagerly stood us next to each other.  He then...began to explain to the two of us, in elaborate detail, exactly why he loved that pairing and what his favorite romantic moments were.  Bewildered, we tried to get a word in edgewise to ask what sort of poses he would like, but he continued his speech undaunted.  In the meantime, neither of us could get back to what we were doing in the first place.

Finally, we managed to get an actual pose request out of him, and he snapped a few pictures.  So far, a little odd but not outright unpleasant.  Then he suddenly demanded that we kiss for him.

The young man - who had just met me - instantly looked very shy and uncomfortable, and I have a boyfriend, so neither of us was too keen on this idea, but we compromised by holding up the man's hat and pretending to lean in and kiss behind it.  Some other people nearby thought this was very cute, and said so.  The original photographer, however, was having none of it, and began to complain loudly that he wanted a real kiss.  We told him that we weren't comfortable with a real kiss and this would have to do, but he continued to complain.  After a moment, when it became clear to him that we weren't going to budge on this, he took his picture and went off looking irritated, without thanking us for giving him several minutes of our time.

Seriously - being asked for a picture is always a huge honor, but neither speeches nor borderline harassment are welcome behavior.

I was dressed as Female!Undertaker on day 0 and some drunk guy came up and was asking really weird questions. Not the usual "What is this/What's going on/Why are you dressed like that" it was stuff like "I'm an artist and like furries". He just stood next to me for about 20 minutes before saying anything to begin with, and when I made an excuse to get away from him, he followed me. It took a male cosplayer that walked by (who was like 6'5") to get the guy to leave. It really creeped me out...

Also kinda wished I stayed in the Red Lion this year at least then maybe I'd have a better chance of sleeping at 2:30AM on Sunday night since I was on the 3rd Floor of the Hilton and could still easily hear the rave.

@blackjack That was the weird woman that tried to get my boyfriend to lick her elbow! She also asked me if i knew the kanji for love, to which i said yes cuz its tattooed on my arm. She was tweaked i swear.
I'm pretty sure this is the same lady who photobombed two of my clients during a shoot. :I It was slightly irking because it was going to be an awesome shot, but mostly just weird. xD They posed and I was about to take a picture when she suddenly walks up behind them and sits right in the middle of the shot. With this like.. very satisfied, creepy smile on her face.

She had been watching us for a bit and knew I was taking pics. So there's no way it was coincidence. There were also like a MILLION places to sit, yet she walked over and planted herself behind the water fountain. 8D.....

On a flipside though, I loved how many people came up and sincerely asked about what was going on and were interested in knowing just what the convention was about. I had two cars actually pull over and start up a conversation asking about all the costumes and stuff, and at the growers market my friend and I were stopped several times for photos just from the vendors and non-congoers.

This is kind of a creepy story turned funny (I think) but anyway my one friend and I were walking across the park to get to the Subway for some food when we came across this guy. He didn't actually talk to us, or come up to us at all, but at first glance we thought he was carrying knives and from his appearance he was very sketchy so for a few minutes we were a bit paranoid and trying to get as far away from him as possible. When we got to the right spot though I looked back and the light hit the item in his hand just right and he actually had feathers, not knives. But I swear how he was holding them and their shape...they looked like knives at first. So creepy, but relieving that we were wrong. xD;

i saw a creeper.... from minecraft!  :P (its am monster in the game that explodes).

but when i saw him for the first time, i was NOT in my minecraft cosplay (which was diamond tools and resource blocks strapped to me) and this made me sad. I said i would find him later, but when he went looking for me in the video gaming room, i wasnt there, which im sure was a bad moment for him.
he saw me again, but he was in a different costume :( this made me slightly sad. hopefully next year I will find him and actually say a time to meet up.

if your reading this Mr. creeper i deeply apologize for not being there when you walked down to the garage in what is basically a cardboard oven.

This year was actually my boyfriend and I's best con in quite a few years actually. But sadly i too have things to report about con. Mostly just simple creepy things and one big thing that.. I guess didnt ruin the con but was a serious downer.

First i have to rant about the downer, sorry. I didn't know where else to put it... Alright this happened on the night of day 1, around the time for the rave, we were down by the discovery ballroom area. Just looking around at all the stuff goin on down there at night time, and since it was my cousins first convention ever I was taking pictures of pretty much everything for her. So as im taking a picture of the almost empty hall way, this girl who looked like she was sleeping at first. Looked up and stared at me while i was talking my picture. (Which by the way, at the angle it was at she wasn't in the shot at all.) I put my camera down while i was looking around and noticed she was still staring at me with a very. . .angry look. So hoping she would finally look away, i hid behind the wall. When i looked back she was still staring at us. So being the young innocent first time con goer my cousin was she smiled and waved nicely at her, and instead of anything nice in return the girl blatantly rolled her eyes and flipped her off. My cousin tried to laugh it off and smile back at her but the girl just flipped her off again and and started yelling something at her she couldn't hear.
My cousin (her name is ashley by the way) walked over to hopefully clam this chick down but it did no use, she kept saying how she didnt want any pictures of her and she doesnt think she looks good, and that she had a really bad day and just wanted everyone to leave her alone. Ashley tryed to tell her that she actually looked really nice even though she wasn't in the picture and that should probably go to her room for somewhere quiet to sleep but the chick just yelled back at ashley to just shut up and stop lying and told her to not be so f**king stupid. . . That's where my boyfriend and I stepped in and the chick just glared at us, flipping us off and laying back down.
(which she insited on laying down there even when a line was ment to be right where she was. -_-;; )
She kinda... Made it hard to enjoy the rave since we were so peeved.
///endrant.. sorry

Umm the creepy/bothersome parts were the black van with the ice-cream truck music, a volunteer (i think) staff member (i dont think its right to name here) not leaving my cousin alone and insiting on talking non stop/following us around whenever he saw my cousin, while insulting me and my boyfriend at the same time.. while hitting on my cousin.. then trying to pull her closer by her hips to dance with him in the rave , and insisting the she needed to take pictures with him while he was shirtless. . . . wth??
Also a drunk smelling non-con going-guy asking if he could slip his hand under my skirt when i was pikachu. My boyfriend getting asked if he gets a lot of p**sy by another late night-non-con goer that was lingering by the park around 11, which i found very inappropriate and crude.. and not something you bring up to someone randomly that you dont know. . Oh and the youtube guys bothered me too.

OH!! One more thing that bothered me is a certain yugioh cosplayer trying to take sexual/kissy/ect poses with people they don't even know. I've had issues with them in the past trying to kiss me, and take sexual pictures with my boyfriend at kumoricons past. But now they were trying to take 'buttsex' pictures with my cousin and kissy pictures with a close friend of mine who has had a girlfriend for about 4 years or more now. Neither of which were enjoying this but didnt want to start a seen at con. That cosplayer (who i wont mention the character out loud) needs to hopefully learn personal space, and also learn that when I say i don't want to take a card full of pictures of there group and random pictures of them touching people in my group.. to please leave me and my friends alone! Thank you... ^^

Other then those, the con was pretty awesome this year. Hopefully we can have it there next year too? I really liked it this year ^^ (plus the crossplay 101 panel was awesome ^^)

REALLY Sorry the post is so big!!! >.< *made of fail*

I'm the Locke cosplayer you met and I have some things I wanted to explain.
I don't mean any disrespect when I say this, but you're over-exaggerating about a lot of the things you said about me and you don't me as well as you think.

Regarding the "photobombing": I wasn't trying to cause any trouble by doing that. I didn't know that those pics were being taken until the last second. If I had noticed right as they had been planned, I would've gotten in at that time. I don't normally jump into pictures like that and I wasn't trying to annoy anyone. I just felt like those pictures would be more complete with another FF cosplayer, since I was from the same series. I would not have done it if I was cosplaying someone from a different anime or video game saga. But I will be more careful at future photoshoots.
Also, when you said I was trying to pose like a stud, you clearly don't know enough about my character. If you've seen the Final Fantasy 6 character art, then you should know that Locke poses like that. When I dress as him, I normally pose in that position. When I cosplayed as Judas and Keele from the Tales series, I posed like them, too.

I'm sorry if I annoyed the guy with the sword. I was acting that way because like I said during the shoot, my character steals from enemies in battle. I don't have much experience acting in-character and didn't think to rehearse.
Sometimes cosplayers like to be in-character and I was just trying to be creative. The reason why I said "I'm stealing your sword" was so he'd be prepared when I pretended to do it. I didn't want him to think I was literally trying to steal from him and because FF6 is a popular game, I expect most FF fans to know who I am, since Locke is one of the main characters.

And when you said I was glaring at you, if I did, I wasn't trying to. I'm sorry if any expression I had made you think that, but if I looked to you like I was doing that, it wasn't intentional. If I was that angry with you, I would've explained it in a detailed note. I explain things best that way.

Also, when you said I was stalking you, what you said can't be farther from the truth. If you honestly think I was doing that, you worry too much. Of the eight years I've been attending anime conventions, I have never stalked one person, nor do I have any intention to, and you're the only one who has ever criticized me for that.
You need to remember that Kumoricon is much smaller than Sakura Con and Otakon and at smaller conventions it's easy to run into the same people several times.
Also, I get myself involved with a lot of different things at conventions and in-between events, I'm spending a lot of time thinking about those things as I walk through the hotel. When that happens, I don't pay as much attention to who I see and if you did see me as much as you said, I didn't notice you for that reason. If you see me at any future cons and run into me that many times, it's just a coincidence. There are multiple occasions where I've run into the same people at cons that many times. It is common.

And regarding Lust, if I asked you if you were Laura Bailey a few years ago, I don't remember that. If I had, I wouldn't have asked you that at the FF shoot. And I didn't think you were she. I expected you to take it as a joke.
When I'm at conventions, I often pretend to think that other attendees are famous people if I think they look like a celebrity or voice actor. I don't do it with most people I see, but if I do, it's only if I'm either at a photoshoot, waiting in line or if it's someone I've been around long enough. And you're the only person who's given a negative reaction. Most people I've said that to knew it was a joke, thinking it was funny and at least a few of them said that they get it a lot.

I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble during the weekend, but if you see me at future cons, please don't think I'm trying to stalk you. I'm not the person you think I am and I'll be more careful with how I behave at photoshoots.

A crazy lady at the park came up to me and said, "Is your mother and beautiful as you? You're very beautiful." Then she threw a nickel at my friend.

Thank you for posting Locke. This weekend has actually just been one thing on top of another for me. You were just another straw that broke the camel's back. As a general rule, Photobombing is not ok, especially when a photoshoot was specifically set up for a certain reason. Yes there was group photos, but when Photographers ask for a specific character, they dislike having their images messed with. As that lady indeed made a statement of, when you wouldn't move. For the future, just ask. It's as simple as that. As for the stalking, it really did seem like it, but of course I happened to have become quite paranoid during that convention because of actually being followed by some creepy guy in the park. It kind of ruined my thoughts for a lot of people, and made me very hesitant around a lot of people.

That doesn't excuse what I said.

As for the Lust thing, yeah, back in the doubletree Kumo, you said the same thing. While I was waiting in line to get into something. I can generally take jokes, but when something is repeated more then once, and it isn't a joke that I've previously said was ok, it tends to agitate me. Course, take everything I say with a grain of salt. I'm just making my feelings known, as that is what this thread is for.

To be completely honest, your best bet in the future is to just ask photographers if something is ok. As well as ask the others in the picture, if it's ok. I work as a model, and I know that when a photographer has someone suddenly leap into their image, it tends to make them angry - more then it makes them happy. You'll get a few that are ok with it, but more oft to naught, it's just annoying.

I do apologize if I upset you, but you did upset me. Perhaps sitting down and actually having a talk, would be the more adult thing to do in the future. Instead of the route I took.

///endrant.. sorry

The girl outside the ave you should have reported, that is called harassment and is a crime in washington, no excuse for her behavior. The Ice Cream truck driver is actually a customer of my dad who is a major Wholesale Ice Cream distributor int he area. i've known him for years and he has always been a very nce very NOT unsafe driver. He was prolly just a little excited by the cosplay and the faxct that he mad ea KILLING at con this year.

I think they're talking about two different vehicles there. There was the brown car that was legit selling ice cream, but the one they're describing is a black van playing ice cream music and no one has mentioned being able to buy ice cream from it (I didn't see it so I'm going by descriptions).

He's a nice respectable guy. There's really no serious reason to call him a pedo. The only reason i'm being so defensive is that it is pretty rude and unfair to label Ice Cream Truck drivers as "Pedos" just becasue of their occupation. I'll have you know that in the past fifteen years ONE person has been involved in ANY kind of inappropriate sexual activity behind the wheel of an ice cream truck and they have spent the rest of the time since then chilling their bones in a jail cell. You should count your blessings that the ice cream truck driver that did come was the one you got.

I was watching my friend play "Glomp" well I think it's called that at the park.  A drunk homeless guy walked into the circle and started cheering along with everyone else.  I just watched him because I was not going to confront him hoping he would just pass by.  He stayed and started to get closer to the people playing.  So I told my other friend to watch him while I went to tell hotel staff.  I got back to the park and noticed he was gone.  Then a woman came up to my asking if I was part of the staff.  I was volunteering for my friend who was on staff.  She told me that she saw him trying to touch the girls which upset me.  So as I turn back to check on whats going on with hotel security.  I see my friend and the homeless guy is staring at her as she was belly dancing for some drummers I think.  I saw my other friend and told him to watch the hobo and make sure he does not do anything.  So I go back to the hotel and they tell me their security guard is off checking on something else.  He will be there when he is free.  Well later on the cops came and I believe arrested the homeless drunk when he crossed the street.

Like I said it was upsetting to have that woman probably someones mother tell me that guy was trying to touch the young girls.  I know the staff and Hilton staff can not do anything unfortunately.  Hopefully the police will be there to have a consistent presence of some kind next year.

It's a joke. A bloody joke..about the car not the person.
I'm sure he was a nice respectable person. I've known many Sihx and they are generally kind and friendly people.

I don't care why your being sensitive. I get crap for being too serious, and then I get crap for references a joke-that I did not even make.

Wait I'm confused. Are you all talking about the ice cream car that was parked by the Red Lion parking lot? Because that doesn't at all match the description of a "black van", being a brown car and all.

I'm not giving you crap, i'm giving your friend crap for making the most inappropriate career threatening joke he could make. i'd have the same reaction if he made that kind of joke about a teacher. Peoples jobs and livelihoods depend on their ability to e trusted near others peoples children, and when there is serious discussion about REAL threats to the safety of con attendees, this is not the place to make "Pedo-Van" jokes. that would be like if you worked fast food and i came in and said you liked to give free food away(I'm being a little liberal about the severity) I'm sure you'd love to get fired over my stupidity, how about arrested chum?

I was in the park on Day 2 talking to my Canadian friend and the Eyesheild 21 cosplayers just chillin'. A couple of them liked my B.Jenet costume and took a picture and this other guy also popped up that had already taken my picture 4 times to take another (Kinda weird but WHATEVER). While this was happening I heard someone go "Wow...she's so sexy....she's so beautiful" being repeated over and over while I was standing there.

I turned around to see an older lady behind me. I politely thanked her for the nice comments and went back to talking with the people. The lady then came up behind me again and started poking my bare back and repeating what she had said before so I backed up a bit and turned around to look at her. She then tells me "You are so beautiful....you know who else is beautiful....my daughter...I want to see her alive...I need a beautiful woman to go with me so she will come back." Now, I'm all for being sympathetic to crazy people but that was a little weird. She kept doing this for about 5 minutes, telling me her dead daughter she won't rise from the dead unless I come with her. Then she started caressing my arm and asking me to have a BBQ with her, that was a bit too much for me so I pretty much booked it after that.

And that's the story of my crazy old lady creeper at 2011.

This is not meant to excuse trying to hurt others' feelings... but actually, while continuing arguments or escalating melodrama isn't kosher, it's okay to give constructive criticism that lets someone know who they are.

There's nothing inherently wrong with trying to let someone know they bothered you if it's done without malice, and doesn't speculate about motive. It might be doing them a favor if they didn't realize how they came across.

Also kinda wished I stayed in the Red Lion this year at least then maybe I'd have a better chance of sleeping at 2:30AM on Sunday night since I was on the 3rd Floor of the Hilton and could still easily hear the rave.

word

it wasn't the whole 3rd floor, because I went to a friends room that was near programing suite.  I wonder did anyone on the 4th up hear the dance music?

Yeah, were heard it, and started dancing. xD
Kumori-con 2013 cosplay plans:
Day zero: Sollux Captor
Day one: Meenah peixes
Day two: Fem! Grand highblood.
Day three: We leave at about 1:30 pm, and it's a long drive home, so no cosplay on day three. Too much make up to take on and off, haha.

The only creepy thing that happened to me was on day 3,a friend of a cosplayer I met said there was a strange older man in a long black jacket and black hat in the park across from the Hilton asking her strange questions, trying to touch her,and being some what sexual towards her,I was scared for her but soon after we left the park to get something to eat.Awhile later after she had left,I saw a man similar to what she had described but It didn't occur to me at the time that it was the same man,so he started a conversation with me nothing really weird at the time but then he started to get a bit personal, asking where I lived, what my age was,and what my real hair color was(I was wearing a wig at the time)and I just found it kind of creepy how he was so straight forward with me.I ignored him and he left after awhile but then where ever I went I would happen to see him as if he was following me o_o so ya that would probably be the weirdest moment I had at the convention.....or really any convention I've gone to

The sword guy approves of your anger. He tried to yank the freaking sword out of reno's hands, that could of seriously injured someone, or worst case, killed someone, gotten me landed in jail for being the owner(im liable because of ownership no matter what) and screwed the entire con over! He was very immature and needs to learn to wait his turn and not go around doing **** like that. -_- And OP I still has your pic if you are who i think you are! =D

Oh, and some drunk guy shoved his way into the rave first night and stole a ton of stuff, ran out, and tried to claim the tinkerbell purse and all the lady's products, and convention stuff he took was his, and he got arrested for it, i was one of the people that helped get all of the stuff brought back to their owners, and im sorry, but i have to say, more burly yojimbo's are needed. XD Not complaining, but im just saying, it was kind of bad. XD Hopefully all of the stuff that went missing and wasn't found did get picked up and returned. ^_^

Another moment to add when I was at Kumoricon:

First off, I am a minor. I had a yellow badge so any creepers creeping on me saw the color they would back off.

I was walking to the park, and I was cosplaying as Yuna from FFX. Now, her top seems revealing, which I didn't mind that much. But, I started to feel un-comfortable when I saw this pedo-bear cosplayer. He just had the head, had a eyepiece (forgot what it was called, wanna say monocal or something.), and a top hat carrying a hug sign. Well I walked passed him and he looked at me, reached his arms out and wanted a hug. I looked at him and saw no badge of any kind on him, and just shook my head. He began getting closer and I just began running. I was indeed by myself so it was slightly scarier. But I managed to get back to the hotel safely.

I can't really say that I had a creepy moment of my own, only what others have experienced...  (I think that many of the non-attendees that were harassing some would have been terrified of me ;D).  In terms of bad, perhaps the worst thing that happened to me was that I broke my radio during my cosplay skit.  Oh well, that thing was a piece of junk, anyways. ;D

The least you guys and do is SHAVE.

I can only assume that this doesn't include me, since I shaved my legs and arms for my crossplay.  Speaking as a male, though, some do it because they don't know how, or want to keep their masculinity (but then why crossplay...?)  I think some also do it because they know it'll make them stand out.  I can't say for sure with that last one, since I've always shaved whenever I crossplayed, and I still stand out well.

I didn't know that qualified..plus i've never actually reported anyone.. so i don't really know how..>.>;;; May i ask for future reference? since its to late to do anything about her now... and is it basically the same way for other cons (like sakuracon) too?

If it's at a con, get a staff member, preferably Yojimbo.  (I'm sure they call it different things at different cons).  You can also go to a hotel staffer if it occurs at the hotel in question.

monocal or something.

Very close.  Monocle.  And that individual was kicked out of the con, from what I understand, because of what they were cosplaying as.

Heh heh heh.  I shaved my arms, legs, chest, armpits, toes (hey, hair grows there, too!), etc. which is royal pain.  But after getting a lot of feedback on Saturday, the consensus seemed to be that I should keep my facial hair.  And honestly, as strange as this may sound, I feel like photos of me came out a lot better.  In years when I wore makeup and/or shaved my facial hair, I felt like in pictures I had a total "drag queen" look to me.  Which isn't what I was going for.

If facial hair creeps anyone out, you should see me in make up. Yikes!  XD

Him...
I was cosplaying Sailor Luna from PGSM. He knew who I was, which was cool. But then I ran into him again in Karaoke and he started talking to me saying he had a surprise for me. Kept on calling me "Sailor Moon cosplayer" which was creepy. Luckily my older friends were with me so I felt safe. He sang "The power of love" from Sailor Moon. Didn't see him again though. Although hearing this freaks me out. I'm glad he got kicked out and doesn't know what I really look like.

Why don't some people pay attention to badge colors, You blue badge, me yellow DON'T HIT ON ME!

This year most of my friend's cosplay plans fell apart so they just dressed up super cool on a few days. My friend does roller derby so on day 0 she thought it would be fun to wear her derby gear, which consists of her Rosebud hoodie, short-shorts, roller skates, knee pads (with triforces on them) and fishnets. As we were waiting in line another one of my friends had to call their mom so he and my derby gear friend and her went across the street. That's when the drunk guy walked up to her and started talking to her, calling her "mom" then as they walked back he followed them. I was watching him ready to run over there and punch him if he did anything. I saw he talking to other people in the line well.

Yeah, toes are some of my least favorite things to shave, too.

etc. which is royal pain.

I can see that in your case, but I think my face is one of those where it comes out better when there's more of an attempt to look as feminine as possible.

It seemed I was more on guard at this years con with all the un-wanted creepers.......

I remember walking through the park on Day 1 with my Roxas since I was Axel, and we were holding hands. Well there was a mother and her son sitting on the bench in the park, and the boy (who looked... 7 ish) saw us and said "Mommy mommy! Can I take a picture of those two?" and started rambling about how we are from the video game "Kingdom Hearts". I smiled and waved at the boy, but his mother had a disgusted look on her face. So then she says to her son: "*sons name*, those are homosexuals. They are the same gender. " and began talking about how if you talk with a same-sex couple, then you'll go to hell and this whole "god will punish you" blah blah.

I thought that was rude, in my opinion. And the poor kid had this sad look on his face when he saw us leave cause of his mother. I had some things to say to that woman, but we just left the sight.

I think the only creepy thing i had happen was some cosplayers here and there would come up and ramble to me when i was having a "real world" conversation with my buddies. Its kind of annoying when you are having a real conversation and someone runs up and rambles random crap to you.

There was a hobo sitting on a little brick wall/fence thing accross the street from my hotel (econo lounge) He was muttering to himself but all I could make out was "jump on them all".... I quickly moved to the other side of the street.

The other creepy moment was at night while I was dressed in lolita I asked my group to hang back so I could get things at plaid pantry because I didnt want to go past the bar like this alone but they insisted it was fine so they left me to do my shopping alone. Sure enough, as I passed the bar I was harrassed by drunk men through the window. -_- Guys if a member of your group wants to make a 5 minute stop because they dont wanna be alone.. Just do it.

Another odd thing that happend.. not really creepy just a little awkward... There was this girl that kept running up and hugging me and calling me mom because I was Aerith. She had an explanation that I dont really remember but it was a little awkward because I was not in on her perception of reality.

Nope, it actually had nothing to do with Advent Children. It was some story about her dad I guess and I really dont remember most of it she talked too fast x_x. I didnt ever say anything to her but she only asked for a hug the first time, the other times she ran up and hugged me and was gone before I could say anything x_x

Weird moment for me, while I was wandering around the park during the day. Just hoping for someone to hang out with. This little girl, with the most adorable scottish accent, and pretty red hair, started talking to me after sitting next to me. I couldn't see her parents, but she was talking with me for a good while, we talked about Fairy Tales. The real ones, not the silly ones that are around these days. She was about eleven? I think? And then her parents came over, and asked if everything was ok. I explained that it was perfectly alright, I was enjoying her company. The little girl looked straight at her parents and said "I'm talking to the Fairy Lady, you can tell she's a Fairy. Look at her eyes!" She exclaimed. Her parents looked at each other nervously and crouched down. Started talking to her in Gaelic, I couldn't really understand most of what they were saying. Then the little girl reached over to my left sleeve, and pushed it up. "Look, she has the moon and star. I told you there was a Fairy Lady here, mummy, Daddy! And she's pretty. But she's hurt, and that's why I sat with her. She needed a friend."

That's just too adorable... and weird, but in a good way.  :)

(Or at least to me it seems that way. At cons, one person's "weird, but in a good way" is often another person's "eww, please go away".)

During Day 2, it was the homeless man at the glomp circle that really freaked me out. I was so glad there were Con-Parents about to handle him, but the fact something wasn't done sooner was too sad. The guy made the Chibi Sora cry! ;_; He was so adorable and someone made him cry... D: Oh, and this one Vancouver woman making a horribly snide remark about my free hugs sign. "Why the hell would someone want a free hug?" I responded with, "Who wouldn't want a hug?" and she snapped back, "I wouldn't from a weird-o like you." :c That really hurt my moogle heart D:

This didnt happen at con but what you said reminded me of the comment I got on my DA from a person who clearly hates cosplay and actually took the time out of their day to insult me. Some people really need to get a life right? Don't let it get to you, haters will be haters. And you are right, hugs are the greatest as long as they are asked for and not just forced.

Lol. xD While it would be highly amusing to watch her get bit, and she sure deserved it for not wanting free hugs! Bitting people = not good idea. My dad's fiancee almost got arrested for biting her neighbor. It is assult, you know?

I remember you from the convention! You had a good cosplay too ;u;

I totally agree X3 To the Normal people, you'd have to be insane to dress up and run around happily when it's not Halloween.

The one weird moment that stands out in my mind right now is on day 3 I was walking around the park with one of my friends. She was dressed as Haruhi and I was in my full Drunk England outfit, meaning I had the dark blush and it kind of looked like I wasn't wearing anything but not that realistic. Anyways I was being sort of in-character and we were derping around while wasting time. One of the drug/achohol recovery people came over and told us about their event, giving me a slightly weird look. I think she actually though I was at least buzzed. It was one of the most awkward moments as well as strange/weird of my con

Someone made Chibi Sora cry?! Oooo, doesn't that make you want to build a time machine just so you can go back and yell them into oblivion? That kid was the cutest! The one convention I don't bring my KHII Kairi to...

I actually didn't get any weird moments myself this con (unless you count some guy grinding on my leg during a group glomp... but his friends apologized for him).

Any one of you could have asked him to leave, and if he hadn't, you could've called the police.

It seems weird to me that someone with that sort of an opinion on one's walk with God would allow her son to play any RPG, even Kingdom Hearts...

Lol yea, but im sure if we pled insanity, we could get away with it. I mean, just look at us lol we run around in costumes most days

Too bad that wouldn't actually work... ;D

Ok, so I was walking back from the corner store at about 3 in the morning. There was this person walking toward me in a wife beater, and they were rubbing their hands over their chest. I thought it was a guy. Then they pulled up their shirt and she said "LOVE! LOVE FOR EVERYONE! Show your tits if you got em'" and walked past me. I think I died a little.
